I am very similar in nature. That’s why I appreciate that quality of attention to all details and reasoning for all decisions taken.
I recognise that quality of character in your presentations and I appreciate and like that quality in others when I see it.
And believe me, as a school principal during a 30 year career, I can tell you, being pedantic and focussed on detail is a rare and refreshing quality to observe in other people. Not a lot of people demonstrate those intelligences of attention to total detail and thinking things ALL the way through, before they rush in to start a project.
    Suzanne. Xx

I’m up and down ladders and stairs all day so I get it man. I had to make steps on ladders and stairs a very conscious thing and actually think about form and control. I have a tendency to zip around too. But that comes from drive and passion and I see that in your work. Thanks for the content and tips.

Some cushioned work station mats would help with foot fatigue. With anti-skid backing, you could put them in front of the doors to the vans too to help with that impact each time you hop out.

Nice to see you're a fan as well. I love WAGO connectors!. I turned all the techs at my office onto these a few years ago. You can't beat em: secure, have voltage testing ports, AND they give you the flexibility to change connections/wiring later on. Invaluable! Oh, and the rail mounted terminal blocks (like the 288-837) are SO convenient when you need to troubleshoot individual circuits.

Love my automatic wire stripper. Major time saver.
Also, Wago connectors are all I use. So many wire nuts from the past just taking up space!
Lastly, affixing the connectors and slack wire to the lights themselves would seem better for replacement.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว

The wire stripper tool amazes me every time I use it. They really need to beef up the calibration lever.
      .
Glad to hear you use WAGO connectors. I really gave them the tug test and they don't budge.
      .
And yes, when pulling the light fixture out for replacement, it would be more convenient to have the connectors affixed to the backside of the fixture. However, that is generally a most rare occurrence, and IMHO, setting them in place with a little tape on a solid non-conductive surface is better for the long term. Longgggggg term!

I am now addicted to the pursuit of perfection. In awe of your knowledge. How did you amass so much information in one lifetime? I'm soaking this up like a sponge. You are a one person University, George.
I went and bought the same puck lights from Amazon for my van too. Thanks for saving me the research. Here is something I can give you back:
With regard to plantar facsiitis - this is not what you have. PF is a sharp stabbing pain in the HEEL not the front of foot. If you are tight anywhere on your foot soles, its it due to lack of normal exercise, repetitive stress from standing and cramped positions, and also compression of your butt. Get off your butt, George! You need to stretch the butt muscles, leg muscles, and spine. For best results use a foam roller to 'iron' out your back. Use a lacrosse ball to work pressure points on your butt by sitting on it and slowly rotating till you feel the knots. If you are a masochist, use a baseball instead. Also use a large inflated ball to stretch your spine both ways. Lie on a picnic table or any heavy table in your workshop, wiggle down your shoulders off the table and hang down partially with arms down. Great stretch across chest, neck, shoulders. Repeat for lower half of body, wiggle hips halfway down so that legs stick out awkwardly. This pulls the lower back nicely and stretches Psoas muscle, Inguinal ligaments, etc.
Now do some floor stretches - lotus position loosely, bend forward chin out toward outer leg. Great hip stretch. Do some gluteal stretches for sciatic nerve (see youtube), and leg crosses body, etc. All the hip opener stretches. This will loosen up neck, shoulders, knee, ankles, and soles of feet. They are all connected to the hips. At the end, stretch your hamstrings - this will directly relieve your foot pain.
If you get a massage, tell the masseuse to dig into the hips. This will loosen up stiff shoulders and also the legs. Most njuries come from tight hips, nothing else. The hips never complain. They just send the pain down to other body parts. Tackle the hips and you resolve all the pain in your body everywhere. All the ACL tears, fused vetebrae surgery, accupuncture on neck... all from lazy, unused, cramped and locked hips. Swimming helps a lot to loosen up entire body. Ocean swimming is the best.

Mats should help where you land coming out of van and where you stand. And for delicious relief schedule some foot massages. Ahhhhhh. For self care maybe try a hard spiky rubber ball to roll foot on during breaks or at end of day. Concentrate on sensitive areas. (It's helping me.😏).
Always enjoy whatever you bring us on these videos. Love that you share what you've learned in detail.

Electrical tape will leave a very sticky residue due to the heat of the ceiling. Those Wego connectors will be a gooey mess soon. I would use that staple gun and staple a wire tie to the board. Then cinch it up snug on the wires and it will make for a longer more reliable method of keeping those wires put. The stapler I would use would be a round arrow stapler for wires. Then you will have that for duel purpose.

What you have is Plantar fasciitis. You will hear all sorts of remedies for this but there is one major reason for it.
    What helps mitigate it -
    1. Anti Fatigue Mat - thick yoga mat from Ross or Home Goods is less than $10, or get the gym mat squares.
    2. Proper arch support on your shoes since you have flat feet most likely. Get these from a good running store, not junky gel pads. Hard arch support that works.
    3. Wear correct shoes like Keen sandals or Birkenstock with good arch support.
    4. Stretch your hips, legs, and look for hip opener stretches on TH-cam.
    5. Swim!
The main reason you are getting this issue and in fact all hip and leg issues is due to excessive sitting, compression of sciatic nerve, which then contracts hamstrings, piriformis, and other gluteal (butt) muscles. Stretching out the butt is the key to all leg, ankle, knee, lower back, neck, and shoulder pain. Yes, its that important. Lie down, take your leg, and bring it to your face. This stretches the piriformis. Do every stretch with that leg you can think of. Then do a hamstring stretch sitting with legs apart till your forehead touches the ground. This takes time, and you will improve in one week. No more pain. Anywhere.

Our guy probably is using a better type of duct or gaffer’s tape than I have
When I see our guy using the tape I remember how surprised I was when the “duct” tape I used became brittle and powdery after a few yrs.
Here in Kentucky we never leave home without duct tape, vice grips and a coat hanger
The good old boys consider me a fancy boy because I always carry my Victornox champ Swiss Army knife & a Leatherman

Plexiglass also prefers a blunt drill bit. A blunt bit in plexiglass does not grab and tear.

Love your attention to detail! Wago's are excellent on every possible test you can throw at them. Particularly the "lever lock" style that you are demonstrating. You really can't beat them for connecting different sizes of wire and for connecting stranded to solid. Both of those are very hard to get a reliable connection with a wire nut or crimp as you point out. Another thing I've found is they are lightning fast to remove and reinstall when you discover you've routed something wrong or change your mind about how you want to wire something up. Probably never happens to you though, right?

Once I've made the connection, I wrap some electrical tape around the body and levers. Insurance!

G - Happyiest of New Years- tried finding yr video showing yr handtruck fitted out for spools of wire, don't precisely remember what you used to hold the tubing for the spool holes to the hand truck - can you let me know which one.
Or is there a really good search tool to find all your expertise, I do find new ways to do old things in your videos, but I don't always take notes on what is where - so the five I just googled don't seem to be the one I was looking for !!!
But, best for '22, stay healthy & busy (of course).
Are you still recommending HMV - I still haven't fully decided to even touch my 100' roll, tho I will try a piece on my drill press & thanks for RPM reminder ...

I have stopped using HMV in the ceiling system. Too heavy for the van's center of gravity. I replaced that with closed cell foam, Reflectix and Thinsulate. Here is the link to the video with the wire hand truck: th-cam.com/video/RAjI8_NCazA/w-d-xo.html

@@HumbleRoad Thanks for the HMV heads-up, have to figure out another use besides my drill press.
Also were those Aries running board brackets that you didn't like for your 80/20, far as I can find out theirs are one of the few that are no drilling & configured to fit MB holes.
      Stay Well ...

George, How would a Velcro strap work around the belt housing of the drill press? Just a thought. Still provides easy access to the belts. Great videos as always.Once again, one day, I hope to do a build as well. Did you consider the extended Transit van for your builds? My apologies if you already answered those type questions previously. I have watched lots of your videos but may have missed that one. Thanks, Tim

Thank you for being a part of Humble Road, Tim. I love the way the Transit looks. I have spoken to Ford dealership mechanics, off the record, who tell me horror stories about repairs. I have watched YT videos of people traversing this country, back and forth in Promasters and Sprinters. So I'm going with those for now.
