George, what is that concept you were referring to in regards to responsibility and work ethic? I accept, I take, I am willing... this sounds revolutionary! Who knows, you might start something with all that radical talk 🫨 But, let's be rational, George, you know that it's somebody else's fault, that you are a victim and do not need to accept blame or responsibility. 😉
Hi George, love your commitment to quality, transparency and "Real Customer Service". You are a throwback to before this disposable product world. I love that. Keep up the good fight!
Amazing quality of workmanship and not many people would show "failures" however minor, your integrity is admirable. I just wish your vans were available in South Africa 😂😂😂😂
George, I love the idea of the sliding door to create security and privacy and the 360 degree cameras are a must for security. if I was a van dweller I would insist on both. thanks again George 👍
This journey has been, and continues to be, incredible! I've been there since the beginning, and I am so happy you've allowed me to join you along the way! Where are we going next? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Hello George So glad you did this video about security. The last time I watched Humble Road I thought about you installing exterior cameras. Would that be something you could put in near the spreader lights? Now a days I think every vehicle should have dash and live feed exterior cameras .
I have admired your work for some time now, especially your wiring. I have a 2021 Coachman Beyond 22C, wires change colors between points, labels do not exist. I found this out when I did an upgrade to 540 Ah or Lithium. My only other big modification was a Q-lift and 30 inch tires. You are the first builder I have seen who stood up and said this problem is on me. I have much admiration for you doing this. I know other builder would not have. Looking forward to She to me's build and what you do with their Ford Transit. GREAT WORK.
Yes, every running board ight be good for going into the van but dangerous going out of the van as they're way too narrow. Was just talking to my wife about this the other day. We have a little metal stool to get in and out of the van and it does a great job.
George, I really like the security door option. Regarding the added security lights, one switch for each side, whether one or two lights are on each side. It would be better, if possible, to have 2 lights on both sides, as well as a front and back optional units. Regarding contact adhesives, they usually work best when both surfaces are sprayed and each dries before mating them together. I don't know the specific instructions for the green-can 3M spray product. As always, great work. Bob B.
Yep, 3M 90. Learned the hard way, but it gave me a chance to make some changes and ended up a better job. 3M 90 and high interior heat do not work well together. DON'T use 3M 90!
Would love to know more about the 8020 bulkhead. It would be nice to see a view from the cab looking back. Also, what series did you use for the bulkhead (10, 15, 25, 30 series)? How do you handle the 3rd panel (the panel behind the driver when the 2 door panels are slid completely closed on the mid and passenger sections)? Thanks for such great content and amazing designs!..
@@HumbleRoad I was looking at doing something like this with 10 series with a combo of 1010, 1030 and 2059 glides. I was going to design it similar to a 3/4 oak plywood sliding partition I had in my other Promaster, but I haven't had a chance to design and build it yet. It's really nice to see one already built.
I wonder if the 3M 90 was a problem because of the vinyl? I have seen professional builders using it to attach fabric to the panels and to the metal frame for several years now with no reports of failures. I am close to applying fabric and now rethinking the use of the 3M 90 I purchased for it. Thoughts?
When you were showing your pictures I saw the pizza oven shelf above the cockpit. Would it be possible to attach slides to that to make it easier to access?
Good on you for standing behind your work! Respectfully, the sliding door looks unfinished and out of sync with the rest of the interior. Why not add some thin panels to cover the 8020 frame? Also won’t the abs rattle while driving?
The ABS panels are siliconed in place precisely so they do not rattle. To cover the 8020 is sacrilegious! We celebrate the inclusion of 8020 in all our designs. I see, however, it is not for everyone.
George, I see a potential market demand for a heavy duty screen door, mounted where the side sliding door is located. This screen would deter intruders and keep pets in while allowing some fresh air in. All of the Class B vans except one (Class B-VAN by Fleetwood RV, the 2024 Xcursion SL2E on 24' Sprinter) seem to have flimsy screen doors. Is this something you could fabricate?
I imagine a combo of panel materials could fill a variety of needs - security, privacy, light management, visibility, containment, etc.. It will be interesting to see where George takes this feature!
You'll see that sometimes referred to as 'tagging' your photos. It's like an electronic label that you can search for. You can use multiple tags if needed (such as, van, interior, lighting, etc.)
Generally , camper vans have an additional heating source for the living area. That can even include under floor heating (luxury, mmmmm warm toes : ). That being said, I imagine a s-steel mesh panel (or other material) could be substituted for some of the white ones on the bulkhead security door if more air circulation is needed.
Curious why you always use 8020, even for low load bearing uses such as the sliding door. Why do you not use 2020 for things like that? I built my entire van using 2020 and it is very capable except for long runs of heavy load bearing where no support can be provided. It gives only 0.043 inches deflection at 24” span under 250# load.
Interesting question Gary. There's a lot to be said for the saying, "The strength of a chain is determined by its weakest link". In general I think the strength of the materials used in a van build would need to consider multiple aspects such as: Use (occasional vacationing or full time living long-term), Travel (off-roading or flat road), Components (5 gal water jug or 40 gal tanks), etc. Also to be considered is Inventory (material for a single self-build or for multiple vans), Build Type (repeated stock or custom builds), etc..In short, I see the answer as, ' it depends . . . '
Other ideas for simple security. High powered LED strobes over entry points. Someone tries to get in, they get to see the light. High pitched shrieker speaker. Basically something loud, high pitched, painful, but won't actually hurt anyone. Stink sprayer. Seriously, a stink sprayer at about hip height, and most potential intruders will nope out but it's not enough of a threat people will generally pull a weapon.
Having to redo all this original manufacturing is unacceptable! Manufacturers getting a deal on the most inexpensive products to build RV'S, vans, trailers, 5th wheels, etc., should just instead use the best money can buy (you'd think that it was when you look at that sticker price). Seriously, substituting cheap cans of 3M versus automotive adhesive! These shoddy pieces of American work are being passed off as quality just by how bright and shiny everything looks on the inside. But once out on the road, everything inside and out, falls apart! What's commercialism come to? It used to mean something else. The customer came first. When exactly did it start to turn the other way around?🤔 I think collectively we know.
The work you can see is spectacular but the beauty behind your designs always blows me away. The wiring and plumbing are a work of art!
Thank you very much!
Well said, Deborah! Their hidden perfection is always a delight.
Your transparency is admirable.

Just speechless, at this point. I love a good, always-informative, Humble Road video episode! i.e. - George-induced, imagery fix..
Thank you
George, the security door can also be used as extra security during while being shipped, the vehicle abroad
I love that sliding door!
George you do take a lot of Pride in yourself, crew, and Product. I remember when Hawkins M H where being built it had the same pride.
My hubby and I watch your videos every Sun night. We enjoy the quality of your video production as much as the craftsmanship.
Wow, thank you!
He will take care of you - stand by your man!
Hi George
Always Enjoy Your Humble Road Videos. Thanks !!
Glad you like them!
Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship and making great content.
George you're amazing. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us.
So nice of you
wow that's a cool partition bulkhead with sliding door. can you do a video on just that alone is amazing workmanship with 8020
Thanks George. Like 47
Love the bulkhead. I've wanted to do that exact thing with 80/20. Would you share/sell more info on the parts and design you used to accomplish that?
Standing behind your production! 💪 ❤️
Great work George, i tried a sliding 3030 panel and really that was a year ago - wish i knew then what i know now
Love your videos ❤
Love the sliding door George. I was wondering if the white panels inside will make any rattling sounds?
We silicone in the white ABS panels precisely so they will not rattle
Love your work!
Thank you! Cheers!
I need those running boards for my ProMaster. Yours are real nice! 😍🙏🏽
Glad you like them!

Everything you do is 100%. Pretty simple actually

I almost missed the last half (ish) of today’s video.
Snooze, you lose! 😇

I used 10 series. There is no need for a third panel as the armoire acts as the third panel.

3M headliner and general trim
@@HumbleRoad thanks for the reply.

I did a build in 2017 and it worked well, the VOC content lists the same but it seems like it never completely cures now.
When you were showing your pictures I saw the pizza oven shelf above the cockpit. Would it be possible to attach slides to that to make it easier to access?
I remember seeing the 'airline' drop down cabinets in an HR van video. It might be cool to apply that to the 'pizza oven' shelf.

can you do a mini coop?....with no passenger seat ...if I want to sit ill just sit on the driver side
Yippee!!
George, would you be able to share the brand name of the new adhesive you are trying out for the headliners?
3M
How do you keep track of all the images/files? Is there some software or naming convention you'd be willing to share that helps with this?

Grade "A" handwork.
With the security door closed, you lose the heater?

No, the living space is heated with a Webasto heater located in the rear of the van

This is 10 series 8020. It measures 1” x 1” square tube.

@@HumbleRoad Yes, and the 2020 is 3/4" square tube. Lighter and less costly, but still very strong for most uses.
2020 is not 3/4”. 3/4” is 19mm
In terms of build processes, this would be a huge problem for us. We argue down to 1/32 of an inch.
