      Hi Justin, thanks for showing us your M3 and sharing your thoughts on Tesla. Like you and Daren, I'm also a $TSLA investor.
      I've been hearing comments saying you're "sponsored" by Tesla to do this interview as you have endorsed other ICE auto brands before.
      Also, by doing this interview, you could risk losing future endorsement deals from other ICE automakers.
      I know it sounds ridiculous but would love to hear your comment on this?

    • @MuttonsInTheMorning_
      @MuttonsInTheMorning_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lootster haha I would never say no to being ‘sponsored’ by Tesla, but anyone who even bothers to do a minute of research will know Tesla doesn’t sponsor anybody. But people will say what they want to say. As for endorsements, all ICE makers are now pushing out EVs. Honestly some of them are quite stunning too. Would love to work with them to push their EVs 😁

    That was funny when he said he had eight cars in 20 years. In America North America it’s not uncommon for a lot of people to do eight cars and motorcycles and boats in one year. Lol great interview ,thank you.

      We have COE and high taxes for cars here to run on the singapore road. Unlike the Americas which has none of these heavy taxes.

    Whatever u save on petrol u end up paying for the crazy road tax and insurance. Gov is not going to give up making money from car owners.

    • @MuttonsInTheMorning_
      @MuttonsInTheMorning_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed on the gov making money part. Road tax is (unreasonably) high for EVs, but not that much higher than ICE cars of similar power. Insurance is not high, but a lot of people think it is because they read poorly-researched articles that lazy journalists write about it. The savings are still significant.

      @@MuttonsInTheMorning_ I drive a 428. My yearly expenses are- petrol 7k a year, road tax 1.2k, maintenance 2k , insurance 1.3k that’s about 11.5k.
      I just googled tsla road tax 3K. Insurance around 4K.
      11.5-7 I save 4.5k. That’s almost 40% savings per year. Hmmmm….

    Great episode! Have been listening to muttons since their 987 days.. I myself ordered a MY and was actually a little nervous about charging and even thinking how I can make my condo management agree to install chargers. Glad to hear from Justin that public charging is so convenient that he opted to NOT install a home charger!

    • @MuttonsInTheMorning_
      @MuttonsInTheMorning_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Bryan, thank for listening! I would say for condo, if cost can be shared, still makes sense to install one for those ‘just in case’ moments, and it will make sense if many residents drive EVs. It’s a nice to have for sure!

    • @harunrachman3143
      @harunrachman3143 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a long term Tesla owner and engineer, you can probably ask your condo management to simply install standard outlets around the various parking spaces and you just have to plug into those outlets to charge your car overnight. If your outlets produce only about 10-11 amps it will add about 6 miles per hour. I am sure that is more than enough for overnight charging in Singapore. Of course you should pay for the installation of the outlets and any other fees.

    Why Singapore never support green car like EV? Tesla been in US so long, and even china have so many green car for so long ago.

    • @DarenYoong
      @DarenYoong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Malcolm. Singapore has been late, and is now doing more to support EV adoption in Singapore.
      What’s Working:
      - Building 60k public EV chargers by 2030
      - SG$45k in EV ARF rebates
      - Ban in sales of new pure ICE cars by 2030
      - Allowing Tesla to operate and sell directly to consumers. 1 PAP MP (Low Yen Ling) also has a Tesla Model 3 now.
      What’s Not Working Well:
      - Road tax and insurance for EVs are higher than ICE/Hybrid
      - Classification of EVs by power rating instead of efficiency
      - Lacking mandate for condos and new buildings to install EV chargers or be EV-ready

    The road tax is negating the gain from fuel cost. Once road tax is normailised to that of ICE cars and at least 50% of carpark lots are EV ready, ICE cars will become dinosaurs

    Does the swivel mod void the warranty in Singapore?

    • @harunrachman3143
      @harunrachman3143 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't know. Not even sure about how it affects warranty here in USA. I have changed my air filter to a bio/HEPA filter after about 20K miles. I would have changed the 12volt battery on my own but the lithium version was out of stock so it got done for free at Tesla Service Center. From the installation steps, it is very easy to reverse the work done if you feel it will void the warranty.

  • @dr-k1667

    Beautiful warp and nice mod. I think the govt. can do more in Singapore to help the transition including making the COE less for those getting an EV, but that is a major policy decision. Educating developers, school children, business owners (you attract more people to your place when you have a charger (Tesla destination chargers) ) and land owners should be educated and informed in ways to either transition their cars, fleet, or space to make the transition to sustainability in transportation, energy generation and storage.
    Great interview Daren, I'm really glad Singapore has you as a resource.
