I was 18 years old in the year 2000, and alone in New York. One freezing morning on my birthday in January I went into a record shop on Bleecker and bought this on CD because I liked the cover art. Later that afternoon I went up one of the Twin Towers to the observation deck and took a bunch of pictures on one of those disposable film cameras. I got home and tossed the camera under my bed. Seven years later I found the camera and developed it. The pictures were grainy and faded and showed views and people that tragically did not exist any more. What remains is my love for this beautiful, restorative, textural, funky, delicate, fun-loving little record. It's my favorite work by Air, truly a brilliant band.
i'm gonna guess that many of the people still exist, unless they all hung out in the observation deck for another year and a half after you took your photos
This is a very sublime collection of sensual music. I had a boyfriend long ago and we listened to this when we, well - you know ... I'm rediscovering this 25+ years later and remembering quite a bit of pleasure!
haha, funny you should say that, as i had a girlfriend, christ yeah 26 years ago now, and i would play Moon Safari on loop when we, you know dot dot dirty dawg dot, pleasurable memory, as you say...
I can't count the amount of times I have listened to this album tripping and stoned! It is such an amazingly sublime experience, I highly recommend it! I love it 💜
I agree bro! Air is my top 3 favourite band EVER!!! They are simply great, they brought so much innovation in the panorama of electronic music! I saw them 3 time alive. Once in Milano, once in Melbourne and once here in friuli, the italian region bordering with Slovenia.
Since a couple fo years I'm listening to another French Band I like a lot, Polo & Pan. Do you know them? And there are so many French artist I love, starting from the 1st I knew, Jean-Michel Jarre... Going into the '60 / '70 music and so on...
Love these guys. Seeing the movie, 'The Virgin Suicides', led me to discovering Air. This led to Stereolab, Bertrand Burgalat and all these other exotic indie groups. Thank you Air.
funny thing is i've never watched the virgin suicides yet i have the soundtrack because, you know, it's Air! my old next door neighbour borrowed it off me as she loved that film (and sadly was no stranger to suicide attempts)
yep, still on my shelf, loved the cd case design with the coloured dots & multiple holes & slide-out inner sleeve edit: though it did annoy me that it wasn't standard cd case sized so wouldn't fit neatly into racks & stacks!
...ahh playing it again whilst having a read up on wiki: i'm reminded i have the 1999 re-release bonus tracks "Californie" - 2:27 ("California") "Brakes On" - 4:22 Remix of Alex Gopher's "Gordini Mix"* Alternately titled "Gordini Mix" (Brakes On mix) in some regions but that also there exists Japanese bonus tracks "Le soleil est près de moi" (Buffalo Daughter Remix) - 4:48 "Le soleil est près de moi" (Money Mark Remix) - 2:37 *the 12" of which i picked up in a random record shop crate dig many years later; sadly i don't have the original vinyl of this ep from 1997 though

@@mandenen1411 The Ten album from pearl jam which is quite different from this but it was my first favorite band when I was twelve years old, and the other is the Clarity album from Jimmy Eat World. It is also very different from this but if you enjoy this there is a good chance you would appreciate the artistry on that album as well. The last track is 16 minutes long and to some at first, it might seem super repetitive but it is well constructed. For a couple years I would hear something different every time I listen to it. None of these albums encapsulate what I like, I'm clearly all over the place, but as standalone albums, those three were monsters for me.
I've got a bunch of albums I can listen to from start to finish over and over. And Ten is one of these albums. This is one of those albums. I'm glad I with you 66%! I remember listening this album in my bunk bed in a youth hotel in the middle of the night in Melbourne in 2008. This sound is part of the best time in my life.
I don't know if I have ever heard such inspirational music especially when including all of Air's works. But this album in particular has a 60's sound and speaks to me... or maybe because I was a child in the 60's this album makes me feel like a child again. I love this band. Barbarella... Flint....
I discovered them on Pandora. But like you mentioned- "makes me feel like a child again." So stirring to my soul.. I cant describe it. I can listen to this over and over.
Commenters always predictably write of doing hallucinogens and marijuana while listening to music to “enhance the experience”, but I’m too old for that and just appreciate the beauty distracting me from my arthritis😊Air is just perfect
I'm seeing them live in a few months for the first time. They'll be playing the entire Moon Safari album instrumentally. I'm so excited!!! ❤ Update: It was an absolute fantastic performance on a perfect summer night.
If every moment and meeting in life was like this music my destiny would be fulfilled with hapiness❤ Strong clever from the musicians dedicated their whole album to a Clever clever surprise, from ❤ only theirs personality can give. Impressing for real. ❤❤❤❤😮❤❤❤❤

I have always put Premier Symptomes next to Moon Safari as my 2 candidates for favourites from Air. Very seventies and very cool, in the late nineties!
I first caught onto Air from Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. Been listening ever since. This is one of my favorite albums of all time and I've got it on vinyl!

This album fits most every mood. Favorite one by AIR. Listen to it alll the time. Feel like I constantly have "Les Professionels" in my head when listening to it I can finally breathe...
Brilliant album. I used to work out to this. A great band!!! There is a sublime synergy that it is had to put your finger on as it always moves in a seamless fashion.
My girlfriend and I almost only make out to Moon Safari. There is simply no better make-out album on the internet. This particular album is not quite long enough! ;)
I'd forgotten all about this EP. Used to listen to it in my room at uni with my lava lamp on drinking awful blended whisky and lemonade. I wonder what happened to my copy of it? Needs a vinyl re-release judging by the prices around.
@@troyjenkins6242 I feel that this album is made for tripping. I always put it on when tripping mescaline, shrooms or acid. The "Alone in Kyoto" track is also incredible when tripping, it's like a soft, warm and cosy blanket coming out of the speakers and wrapping around you.
I seriously wish I could find some other synth musicians that wanted to get together and make music in the same vein as Air, such a good band, left field and experimental but still very musical

Perfect music to accompany a few cocktails. Very smooth.
Perfect soundtrack for a nice summer´s day at the beach. The only bad thing about the album is it´s shortness.
