You either get this movie, if you're one of the very few who are awake, or you don't. Joe vs. the Volcano is without a doubt one of the most powerful films ever made. I'm grateful to the producers, director, and actors for making it.

I totally agree! You have to be awake to get the message. It is a highly symbolic movie and it does take some awareness of symbology to get that part, but even if you don't pick up on all the nuance, the big picture message is there if you keep your mind open to it.

The entrance to the factory is the face of the big woo. The lightning that hit the boat was the big woo symbol. 🥚

I watched this film at the cinema when it was released, when I was still basically a boy, a teenager. I've had a soft spot for it ever since. As the years have passed, its message over time in my mind has shifted from a whimsical adventure story to something much deeper, about reaching beyond what you take for granted as everyday routine and seeking truly extraordinary experiences. As you become older, some of those experiences will become your fondest life memories.

If we but pause a brief moment we will find the blessings we can experience will be as many as the grasses beneath our feet and the dew drops on the morning flowers. I hope and pray that whomever reads this will never be marooned without love from a beloved one. Help yourself to all the beauty in the universe that you can hold,!

+Stephanie Sunderland Like how a different perspective can completely change our lives, or how you can be the best version of yourself if you are unencumbered by the small things in life like ordering more catalogs? Or what about how we can forget how big life is when we trap ourselves in our tiny rooms with lights that suck the life out of us? Suck Suck Suck!!!

It sure is underrated and one of Tom Hank's, Meg Ryan's best ever films! The quotes from the film can give a lot of hope, ambition in despair however difficult situation you can find yourself in within real life. Adore this film but anyone i have mentioned it to has never watched this great film (it's one of my favourites). 😊

There are some films that no only remove us from our lives but in many ways, show our lives to us. This silly little film with it's light soundtrack and easy dialogue has hidden within it, the gentle whisperings of the universe, if we are still enough to hear them. Our lives are greater and should be greater if only we can seize them

I have this movie - never ever get tired of watching it - the story of life's paths, it's ruts, ends, beginnings all have such meaning to all of us humans. So wish the music makers had thought enough of its' power to keep selling the CD's. And the moon and thanks to God for His Gift of our Universe.

When I first saw this movie back in 1990, I knew it was something special. The critics, for the most part, hated it. And later when Tom Hanks one his academy award, Steven Spielberg appoligized to him for making the movie. That was a very poor thing to say. It has staid the test of time. So much more to this movie than we will all ever know. Thank you Georges Delerue for a most beautiful soundtrack.

Probably the most beautiful I have ever seen Meg Ryan was at 5:25. I have spent my entire life looking for the woman in that still photograph. To me, she radiates everything I love about,. admire and respect in a woman. There is such strength of character and capacity. A man can always dream, I suppose.

  • @Halo101st
    @Halo101st 16 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Meg Ryan epitomized the American woman in this movie. She was absolutely gorgeous, spontaneous, intelligent, strong, unselfish, with a most delightful sense of humor. How could any man not fall in love with her in this movie?
This movie was far heavier than anyone suspected, too, and carried with it a strong message of hope through perseverance and self confidence. It may not have been taken seriously because it was done with humor and not the typical Hollywood soul-searching and weeping.

I love the unique semi low budget but excellent at the same time... some of us are on board with movies that are not box office smash hits..I avoid those and opt for movies like "Joe vs the volcano"...I moved recently to an area on the Pacific coast of Mexico...on a mountain that is falling down...but at least I escaped the dumbo tourists that...as usual are destroying most of the beautiful places... I'd rather have a mountain fall on me than be around the "special ppl"... cheers from the jungle

the whole movie is a fantasy. it never actually happens.
joe is having this daydream fantasy sitting at his desk. notice how the lampshade looks identical to the island later on?
the key is meg ryan. she plays all the main women, which is part of joe's fantasy.
after he gets the news that he's going to die, that's when he goes back and has this fantasy. he's simply daydreaming about this adventure.
the whole thing is ridiculous. a made-up phony terminal illness. some guy paying him to jump into a volcano. getting shipwrecked and surviving on top of floating luggage? an island where the natives are half polynesian, half jewish....and love orange soda?
and they're blown out of the volcano, somehow surviving, and land in the ocean without a scratch on them?
    nonsense. it never actually happened.
and once it's over (it probably took about 5 minutes in joe's mind), he'll come back to his real life--where he's broke, in a shitty job, and terminally ill.
he's probably thinking about how amazing life could have been if things had just gone a little differently. if this plain, ordinary girl was adventurous and wild...if he'd taken more chances in life...if he'd been a little bolder, a little braver, not so afraid to settle for whatever crap came his way.
the whole movie is a daydream.
i adore this film so much.
