    Curious. Epilame is used to hold oil in specific places. Pallet fork jewels, escape wheel, wheel pivots, Inca block jewels. Ive heard the if the fork of the pallet fork has epilame on it, the impulse jewel hitting it will create a fine powder and potentially damage the parts. I would think the would be the same might happen with epilame on the second hand. There is no oil used on this so why the epilame? Just wondering... Is lubeta the same as epilame? Im also under the impression lubeta is used for the automatic winding parts. Great video!!

    • @MacroTime28800
      @MacroTime28800  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad you enjoyed it!
      Epilame repels lubrication. I run the movement for a short while to wear out the epilame on the pallet stones and the escape wheel. Then I lubricated the escapement.
      Yes, that’s correct, the roller jewel hitting the pallet fork causes an issue if the whole pallet fork is dipped in epilame.
      The second wheel, I see your point. I’ve never heard of anyone mentioning any issues with it and Rolex service guide tells you to treat it with epilame.
      Lubeta is a lubricant, epilame alters the tension of the surface to repel lubricants 👍

  • @fabianotonin118
    @fabianotonin118 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a Swiss chronograph from the 1940’s, it uses a Landeron L50 movement and I have the exact same issue, your video made me very worried 😢
    Bought the watch as fully serviced and it always has been extremely hard to wind. When the power reserve is fully depleted, it winds with some moderate resistance (more than what I would consider as nornal), but as you start to accumulate some winding on the main spring, it starts building so much resistance on the crown that it comes to a point where you can’t continue winding without hurting your fingers… I know it’s not resistance from being fully wound because it happens with some 12 or 15 turns on the crown, so I’d think there’s a few more turns to go before reaching the limit, but it’s just impossible to go any further by hand.
    After watching your video, it made me think if maybe I have some sort of similar issue, with a bent barrel bridge or something that could turn the watch useless by the lack of a replacement part…

    • @MacroTime28800
      @MacroTime28800  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It sounds like the issue I had with this watch. The resistance in my case was the worn out bushing. It allowed the barrel and the ratchet wheel to tilt so much that the ratchet wheel was touching the underside of the automatic bridge. Hence the resistance when winding. It could perhaps be the same issue. You just don't know until you inspect it. I'd get it serviced sooner rather than later.

    • @fabianotonin118
      @fabianotonin118 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MacroTime28800 yeah, that’s what I figured. In my case, there’s no automatic bridge, the watch is a manual wind only, but surely something there is rubbing against something else that it shouldn’t.
      I stopped using the watch to prevent any further damage, but I’ll have to send it to service whenever possible. It’s hard to find people willing to and capable of servicing this kind of watch here in Brazil, at least close to home, most watchmakers only take simple servicing jobs and/or only work with simple watches, not mechanical chronographs. We have some very good watchmakers (Omega Authorized Technitians and etc), but they’re not accessible in a way that you can bring the watch yourself and talk directly to them, you have to send it via mail, and it takes a very long time for them to even perform an evaluation and send you a quotation for the service.
      By the way, loved your channel and your content, congratulations and keep up with the good work!! 😃

    • @MacroTime28800
      @MacroTime28800  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think most people will have to post their watches to get them serviced and it can take a long time to get them back, it can take months. But eventually, you’ll have a nice watch that works well

    2 years ago I bought an omega Seamaster 300m from 1999 from a grey market dealer. It was a nice store but the day after I bought it, I noticed the watch stopped at night. And it didn’t run within chronometer specifications. I brought it back and they serviced it and since then it works fine. I wonder if they just tried to get away without servicing the watch.

      I'm afraid I couldn't tell whether it was serviced or not. It's only when you open it and start inspecting it you'll find out whether it was serviced or not.

      I bought a reck OPDate (ref 1500, from 1965) in 1980. And had it properly worked on. It’s been my daily. I’ve suffered some bad service and I’ve learned how to source proper service. (Rolex factory once, and that was an expensive disaster. It’s been made right since by true watchman.)
      It’s been 1-2” day for decades. I figure it’s maybe at half life. So I anticipate another 30 more years of stunning performance and timeless appearance.

    Unfortunately we are at the mercy of watchmakers. I had my speedmaster serviced at high cost by someone highly recommended. The second hand now fouls the minute hand in some positions so I cant use the chronograph. I know probably easily fixed but shows poor work and i didnt want to send it back. More seriously it now keeps poor time and the power reserve fell to 30 hours. He had the watch for weeks and only gave back when I chased him. I'm convinced that he didnt acrually service it and I wish i had not sent it to him.

    • @MacroTime28800
      @MacroTime28800  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can imagine how you feel and I understand why you feel that way.
      Sometimes it’s not that easy, we all make mistakes, miss something, things go wrong whether we like it or not.
      My understanding is that he’s a watchmaker rather than a seller like in the case of my video where they did a very poor job just to sell the watch to make as much money as possible.
      If I’m correct, that’s not your case with an independent watchmaker. Perhaps he would be very embarrassed if you contacted him and told him what issues you have with the watch and he would gladly sort out the issues.
      As for the time it took, I cannot really comment on that. My case is very different, I have to rearrange the lights for every shot, reposition the camera, change the settings… It takes me far, far longer than most people would be prepared to wait for unless they have other watches and are not concerned about the time it can take to produce the video because their pleasure is in seeing the video of their watch being serviced.
      For watchmakers who do this for living, they may have a backlog, they may have to source parts that may not be so easily obtainable, they may struggle to identify particular issues…
      I truly understand how you feel and I don’t blame you. But maybe he is a good watchmaker, you say he was highly recommended, and he simply missed something.
      Most of us naturally feel we’re being ripped off when something goes wrong, but not everyone is bad, we’re only humans, we all make mistakes.

    I greatly appreciate your making comments on the quality of the service that many people receive! A literal crime. Stolen fees and trust. Now, address the use of the word “man” when meaning everyone…PERFECTLY OKAY! It is part of the English language to use the male-gendered version of a word to generalize all mankind!!

    • @MacroTime28800
      @MacroTime28800  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed, a little tricky with the service. Sometimes watchmakers simply don't have the time to give it as much care as they would like and there are also others who do not care at all and only want to make money.

      It is a problem, no doubt. If I was a regular buyer who cannot service watches, I’d say to the seller I’ll get the watch serviced regardless of the fact it is being sold as serviced and if there are any issues I will be back with the bill it cost me to get this watch right. The seller’s response should give me a feel how comfortable he is selling that watch.
