- There are many benefits for crew members while working on a cruise ship. Some perks are more obvious, like traveling the world, while other benefits are only appreciated once onboard. Those of us in the special club know as "the crew" have a much different experience on the ship compared to passengers.

how cool is that. worked on NCL also. was there for 10 years. came home for good last year march. there are definitely pros and cons. was a really eyeopening experience. would like to say i started as a child not being able to buy alcohol in the crew bar and came out as an adult.

Great informative videos Sean - if I was starting over again would probably work on cruise ships. I am near retirement and fortunate enough to be able to travel as a passenger on them which I know is not the same as working on them. I am also very luck to live in Victoria BC where one day I hope we become a home port. Enjoy your time on them and save lots for new adventures in the future!

oof. i am about to sign my first contract as a media manager for carnival and i was starting to get a little bit of cold feet, but your speech at the end kinda floored me. and as scared as i am like damn it’s worth it. and at the end of the day that’s something i can do that will change my life. and that’s crazy and amazing.

In the states you probably woudnt make enough ever to buy. But in other countries, I would work for like 3 years and then see how much you have saved.

ulike this dnt u For the most part, of you live in the US you apply directly to the company through their website. All the cruise lines are basically based on Miami. I am from NC. No issues with the hiring process
I cant understand why there is such turnover? I understand entertainment but everyone else is strange to me. You do 6 months and want to do another 6 months you end up on another ship? What do you do between contracts? Go home?
Hi Sean, thank you for your videos, they are so informative! I wanted to ask you a question - have you experienced / seen long distance relationships on cruise ships work? My main worry isn't being away from my partner for 6 months, but more being able to communicate. I heard you saying on another video the internet isn't great which would make it extremely hard. How often are port days too? It would feel like such a waste if I spent all my port days finding wifi to communicate with my partner. Would love to hear what you think.
Katherine Lee So on a personal level, I don’t believe in long distance relationships anyway. But yes I have seen them work. But it didn’t look worth it to me. You are right; most of their time spent I saw was looking for free WiFi in port. and also much of their money spent was on internet onboard. Port days are early morning until like 5 or 6 or so. But you most likely wouldn’t have the entire day off. So you get like 4 or 5 hours maybe. And I would say many itineraries are 3 to 4 port days per 7 Days at sea. You also are in port on embark/Debark day. In all honesty, I personally would not get a job myself on board if I were not single. But that’s just me. If you want to try it; go for it. It is super super hard. But you can make it work no doubt. You just make sacrifices here and there. Good luck!
Hy Sean. I almost watch all your videos. Good job! I'm applying to many companies to get a job as a chef. 😊 But I must disagree with you about speaking English for foreigners people. I'm in Norway and English is my 3rd language. As speak quite fluent, it doesn't bother me to speak all the day, every day. It's harder in Norway when you don't speak Norwegian😁

Please help...i drink an average of 3l itres of water a day, will i be able to get filtered water on the ship ? Is it free of charge,? If not what will it cost more or less?

Madelein Lawerence hey Madeleine. The ship has water available for free some people don’t like it. I drank it. It was fine. You can buy bottled liters and bottled gallons in the crew store. If you buy a lot it will definitely add up. You don’t need to bring towels or sheets or pillows. They make adapters for the plugs. It may be cheaper though to just buy an inexpensive dryer in the states.

Can you do a video on age, what age is best for which job on a cruise ship. Is there a minimum and maximum age for different positions.
Also what about being fluent in another language other then English or Spanish. Like French or German. Where that would be helpful
TodaysRealHealth well, those questions are rather simple. You have to be over 21 for any job onboard. And for people who know many languages, the only jobs that benefits for is guest services.
Coffee With Sean it depends on the company. P&O UK you only need to be 18. I started with them when I was 20. :)
Hi Sean, now I know I'll embark in 4 weeks! Excited! Since I'll be around Japan ports, I've got a question. If my family or close friend of mine want to visit me on port day (and if I have time to spare), can they come up to the ship and look around? I think I saw somewhere a girl dancer saying "my boyfriend is coming to see my show tonight. we can hang out half a day"

Sunny Yoko All of these are possible but you must go through the Staff Captain. The staff captain is basically the most important person. You have to get special permission for
Stuff like that. But it’s def possible

I’m going on my first cruise job as a lighting technician next year. I have some questions if you have time to give me some clues.
My onboarding date is 2 weeks early then the ship’s first sailing date and far away from the onboard port for the customer, did it means that my first two weeks will be in dry dock or training?
Second, do we need to clean up the theatre back stage by ourselves(I mean all theatre technicians and the daily clean, not stage cleaning before shows open)? Strange question I know but I’m just curious about it, cos on the lands I don’t need to do it in my position.
Final question, could I take my bottle to staff mess and bring some drinks to my workplace? If the works take lots of hours everyday I may need some coffee to keep my concentration.

Kazu Chris hey there. Congratulations on the job! So you may be starting on a cruise that is a repositioning cruise. Which is why you aren’t going to the normal first port. Also the previous lighting tech will likely still be there to help you train for that ships
Particular shows before you are left to do it all alone. You may have to make sure the booth is clean. But likely the stage hands clean the stage and the. The housekeeping staff will clean the theater seating area. And then it’s up to your entertainment manager or show director if you are allowed to bring drinks to the booth. You will always have opportunity to go get coffee or water or food between shows and rehearsals. Good luck. Let me know how it goes

I'd searching some information on official website about my future ship, it says that it's going to reform until Mar 10th or something, but I'm onboarding at the end of Feb. So curious about if there's no customer why should they want me to onboarding so early. And it's a cruise to Caribbean islands but I need to onboarding at Cadiz.
Or maybe it really is a repositioning cruise, that's why HR told me don't worry "forget what you saw in titanic, it won't happen" during the skype interview LOL.

How do you get time off to do a cruise with friends and family?
LeRhonda Jones-Bates if you Friends and family come on board during your Contract, you just speak with your managers to see if you can plan a schedule to work less or work specific times so you can plan time with your family. You also need to get permission to be allowed to go into their cabin. If you are on vacation, you all can just go on a cruise together and all be passengers, but because you are still an employee you should bet a sweet discount.

Are you flown from whatever state to be trained?
ulike this dnt u yes. You give them your permanent address and they pick the nearest airport to that address as your “home” airport and they fly you to and from that airport for your contracts
How long were you employed on cruise ships? And are you completely done working on cruise ships?
ZovaLine Minecraft SkyBlock & More I worked three 6 month contracts on three different ships. So I was a crew member for about two full years. And yes, I decided to give land a try. I have thought about going back every once in a while though. There is something about the life style that pulls you back in!
Sean Price great to hear that! I like your channel, I like the long videos of you just being open and real about working on a cruise ship. I am currently building my resume to apply at a few different cruise lines. I have kitchen experience, customer service experience, experiences volunteering with teens in a youth center and camps, commercial painting experience, retail experience, and I also have broadcasting experience from a class I took in high school each of my four years in high school. So right now I’m honestly just lost at which job I want to go for since I have plenty of a lot of experience in a lot of different cruise jobs. I’m looking to give passengers a great experience while being able to save as much money as I can and possibly making cruise line a lifetime career. So it’s nice to have your channel to give feedback on something I’m really interested in.
Plus I have editing and entertaining experience thru my own TH-cam channel so I’m lost on which cruise job I want to pick haha
Thank you so much! I appreciate that you enjoy my help. And honestly, just apply for all the jobs with all the companies haha. Just tailor a different resume to make it make more sense to each particular job. I applied for lots of positions in literally every company for about 8 months before I even heard anything. Just keep applying and don’t get too discouraged. And actually, if your not from the US, there are agencies you contact who will place you with a cruise line. So definitely look into that.

That’s a great idea, I honestly didn’t think about that, I did have one resume completed for customer service position and have applied for that already. This is something I’m honestly interested in and have been in the back of my head for a couple years now. Yeah I also heard a can take only a few weeks till you ship out or it can take up to a year, so diligence is something you need. I have been thru a lot so far in life and I feel like this job will help out a lot to get myself on the straight path for success. Thank you again!

hi sean, is there a 13th month pay and bunos for working on a cruise ship?
Federico Cruz I don’t think so. Maybe some of the higher ups have some sort of different pay structure. But for most positions, you are only paid monthly for the months you work on your contract. And you are not paid for the time you have off for vacation.
Are you paid by the contract/by the hour/by week? How much does the security people make? Are they considered a low position?
Keyser Soze most if not all positions are paid monthly. Security probably makes around $2000 US per month. Maybe a little less. I wouldn’t consider security a low position; however they work the most and have the least time off the ship.

@@CoffeeWithSean How difficult would it be to get a security position aboard a cruise ship with a cruise line such as Carnival, Disney, NCL or Royal Caribbean? I live in Texas, about a 45 minute drive from Galveston. I know Carnival and Disney have ships that sail out of Galveston.
I work as a corrections officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and have for just over six years now. In the past I have applied for cadet positions with both Colorado State Patrol and Los Angeles PD.
Do cruise lines hire their own security officers or contract it with employment agencies ? So, on average maybe security gets paid about $2000 a month. Is that before or after taxes and deductions?
I like your videos because you provide great information because you've been through it. I want to go on my first cruise so bad and see the cruise ships in Galveston almost every time I go there.
Are you still working aboard cruise ships ? What are employee benefits such as health and life insurance plus others like, depending on which line it is.
Guy Morris it may be difficult to get a security job. I never saw any Americans working in that department. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. I suggest you apply. Go for it. They hire security directly through the company. So you can go to the website and apply directly. Yeah. I made 2000 before taxes. And they didnt offer benefits or anything like that because you were a contractor. Good luck man!

Hi. I'm from Tokyo and about to finish the final requirements, then finally able to wait for the official assignment (Most likely from February). Since it will be my first time to work on a cruise ship, I've been googling/reading/watching TH-cam like crazy :D I'm someone easily worry about negative sides of new challenges (to prep myself and be realistic!), so while I'm excited about this new opportunity, I'm also pretty nervous.
