I was an engineer in the navy and when I got out ,I worked with a cruise line as a mechanical engineer ( fixed and maintained ships engines) I was pulling in 2,000 a week!! Of course sometimes I didnt see daylight for a week at a time!!

Casino workers have some of the best situations on the ship as the Casino is one of the few places closed while docked which means lots of opportunities for off board adventures but when you are on ship and the casino is open there is not much to do other than drink or watch movies in your room so why not be working on socializing with people you won't see again after 7 days? As a dealer you know you may see the same ass hole player once a week for years but on a ship, after 7 days, bye bye. advantages and disadvantages.
@@jonathanlovesadventure7838 it is about what you want. If you are single why wouldn't you want to be on the ship instead? Travel vs same ol same ol. if the pay is better (which there is one ship that pays better than vegas for dealers) why would you want to stay in vegas?

My husband worked for a cruise company for 5 years. He’s an engineer so he was on pretty good money. Enough to have a deposit for a house, though getting the actual mortgage was a nightmare, with him only getting paid while he was away. He recently left cruising and works for a local ferry company. He gets paid more, though he is a lower rank, gets more time off and just generally like the job more!!
It's SO EASY for your earnings to be spent on food, coffee, eating out, shopping, and the miscellaneous...,,,, there is a big gap on the ship between lowest positions and higher ranking positions........ saving money tho is quite an accomplishment
Depends on the job, I want to be an engineer (I am British) and I would start of at $31k per year. But someone working in the bar/restaurant from Philippines will get a lot half of that. However the UK is a lot more expensive to live in that the Philippines, but I am a single man with no children, but a lot of those Filipinos have families.
To those Filipino working with you in the Cruise Ship they also pay bills and send money in the Philippines by sending money to their Family. That's why they work hard. There are a lot of difference with culture, I agree with you but for other , working in a cruise ship is their dreams. They can also buy them houses if they save enough.
Its very possible to make a lot of money with persistance and good performance. Been working on ships for 6 years, have met people from Canada, England, Australia who keep coming back because of the money. To me the best payment of working on ships has been all the places the boat allows you to see. Love my job!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
Muffin Tops I doubted so much about working on ships because I was paying more attention to the bad experiences than to the good ones!....I am so so SO GRATEFUL for everything that I have seen, dont let other tell you how it is like, experience it yourself, if you dont like it thats ok, you go back home with a different plan. As far as I know most shiplines require people that are 21 years old at least, I remember one time on board Carnival there was a crew member who was 18 years old but I dont know how he managed to get a contract. My best advise if you want money get a position in restaurant, bar, housekeeping, money with A LOT of work. If you want more time to see and travel go for a position in Casino, the shops, Art, Guest RElations, Entertainment. You will no see a paycheck higher than 3 probably 4 k but you´ll have more free time. Good luck! :)
Wow my son lived with me til he found a house he was going to purchase. He saved as much money for his down payment and was in the middle of closing the week hurricane Michael hit. He lost everything. House was gone. He now lives with us and just got a 2018 truck. His car he had went thru the hurricane and we kept it on life support to get him back and forth to work. His fiance lost her brand new car thru the hurricane so I sold her my Veloster and got a new car. I can't imagine parents not helping their child unless drugs, drinking, won't get a job etc were a problem. I have one of them. But a good young adult couple I would give my last dollar to.
Fair warning to anyone working on a ship for the first time, it's going to be reallly hard to save money. Crew bar, port food and experiences, souvenirs... My first three contracts I would have potentially come home with $10k each. Instead, I came home with about $2000 each time, lol. But the experience was worth it.

The cruise industry has really been working on making it possible for passengers with disabilities to fully participate in recent years, it would be really great to hear that they are also making opportunities (as they should be in 2020) for persons with disabilities to to obtain jobs in their organizations.

Hi I did the Disney Dream cruise which was awesome. We had 3 waiters who took care of us. One told us he had 6 months contract and 6 months at home in Portugal. Is that correct you do 6 months onboard and 6 months off. He said he’s been working at least 4 years
What I find that is so difficult are all the additional dining options on my ship such as sushi or the Italian restaurant for eating out with friends. I feel like most of my spending money goes right to eating out!
Alana Delia I know exactly what you mean. We had a Brazilian steakhouse that was so good. And my first broadcast partner was from Brazil. So he and I were there all the time haha
What about classes given on ships? How does it go for instructors? How would that work? What if the class you want to teach does not exist yet. How would I go about offering it to the right people? Who would I float the idea to?
Right&Tight Apparel I didn’t go to a job fair or meet them in person. After applying and waiting for many months they finally sent me an email and set up a video interview on Skype. I believe I had two Skype interviews within the same week. Then several weeks later I was sent an email with a job offer. It took a long time waiting for The interview, but once I was offered a job I was schedule for a contract within a few weeks. So once I was finally hired it was really really fast.

I worked on a cruise ship for 5 years. I take prescription medication daily. You have 2 options. 1) bring all you need for the whole contract. 2) the ship Doctor will write you a prescription as needed.

@coffeewithsean In regards to the tax situation depending on your country you are required you to file the taxes & claim your income as foreign income & we will pay the taxes back home &they deal with it since we are earning American currency the USA typically want us to be taxed on it (Ie no free money)
leemo philander they’ll make between 1500 And 2500 per month. Work 10 hours a day and you will likely need to speak at least two languages and have some hotel experience. Minimum one year. Salman Sheikh you am look at maybe $1500 to $2000 a month with tips. Restaurant work is crazier hours. But housekeeping as very lonely sometimes because you’re by yourself a lot
I definitely think you should do it. That itch you have, that though to maybe try it, will never go away. And you will look back years later and still wish you had done it. Just go for it. Apply and see what happens. Its only about half a year out of your life. And if you hate it, you don't have to go back. I would rather see you go for it and then stop, rather than never do it and always wonder it. When you go, however, make sure you have tied up lose ends back home. Don't have any bills or expenses while you're away. If you can, of course. The less you have to worry about or pay for while you're on the ship, the more enjoyable your time will be AND the more money you will save and/or be able to spend on awesome stuff while traveling. DO IT!

I used to hang out with a girl who was a pastry chef. She was super cool but I know she didn't want to stay there forever. I remember her saying to me that it was tough being in the kitchen all day under those florescent lights. But she absolutely loved her co-workers. She was the only girl so they all called her "Princess." I think with any job on ships you will have long days and a lot of hours working. But, I also look at it as a super intensive resume builder. If you only do one or two contracts, you will have built your baking chops to a maximum. You will have baked so many things, for so many people, if you decide to go back to baking on land you should have a little bit of a leg up. Not to mention, anyone you go and try to work for on land will be super jealous and interested of your cruise ship stories. I think it could be worth trying for one contract. However, I myself was really happy to be able to leave my office all the time and walk around. But that's just me. Also, you wouldn't be following your own recipes and you probably wouldn't feel fulfilled on ships as a learned baker. You will follow the strict company recipes and guidelines. But you may find yourself able to experiment in you down time. Who knows? But for the most part you would be probably doing the same stuff daily, unfortunately. There isn't too much glamour in the work part of ship life.

Yes but usually you'd be getting paid less on land for the same job (if you convert your pay to dollars). At least that's how it is in my country. And you don't have the same expenses.

Verzac3 Dreams maybe for a specific cruise line for a specific guest service role you need to know 4. And yes more languages will likely get the job sooner. But continue to apply to all cruise lines. English is the language you need for guests. Don’t listen to whoever is telling you that negative stuff
Julio Sousa Matos Yeah. You can watch my grooming video. But it depends on where that tattoo is. If you can hide it with clothes you’re good. If you have a job that is not very much in front of guests you’re good. I have a tattoo on my forearm and I was fine. I worked with one guy who had a full sleeve but as long as he wore a long shirt he was good. Just talk to the recruiters about it and you should be fine.
Kompressor2007 Hey. I made 2000 per month. That’s probably average. Entertainment staff made less but they sold bingo and stuff so they maybe made 2400 a month. Youth staff made probably 1800 per month. Singers and dancers made probably around 2500 a month. I would assume you will be around 2000 per month. But you will get free food and room. It’s paid in US currency. What country are you coming from?

Since I worked in the hotel side, I’m not sure what the salaries of the deck and engine positions were. But for starting out salaries, I would assume 2000 per month is around what you can probably expect.
Saige Wesley auto pay from an account that has plenty of money in it before you leave. But I actually pay for the full year ahead of time. I like to not have to worry about monthly payments. Some insurance companies will even work with you so if you ask them; they may be able to give you a lower rate while you’re gone knowing the car will not be driven. You just have to ask if they have a program like that.
Alex Ogilvie to my knowledge, the companies pay for nearly everything. Some things like medical testing cost you will have to pay yourself and then the company will reimburse you. You will probably have to pay for your own passport. And you may have to pay for some of the cost of a few other minute things depending on your particular country.
No difference when a 18-19 yrs old still leaving with their parents and joined the Forces. For the first 1-3 years he/she saved a lot of money. But most of them don't.

Richard Bonnke Go to all the cruise line sites and find the list of agencies they work with to find new crew members. Contact the agency for your country and apply to them. If you can apply straight to the company, do that too. In your application and resume, highlight your talents specifically to that job and also customer service. Then keep applying. All the time. To all the companies. Also don’t just apply to one job. If you think you would like the automation engineer job or cruise staff or youth staff or Broadcast or stage hand, apply there too. Because once on the ship, you can ask to cross train for the job you really want. Good luck!
$16 to transfer money to your home bank account? That sounds like extortion to me... It sounds like cruise lines are finding ways to pay their employees increasingly lower wages, and charging them for more services... Cruise lines used to pay in cash exclusively. They should still do so. They used to pay cash, then the employees could either stash their money in their safe until the end of the contract and deposit the lump sum when they get home, or they could store their money in the ship's financial office for a small fee until the end of the contract... I guess you can't avoid paying fees completely, so I think a good way to minimize the fee to transfer money between your accounts is to use the ATM once at the end of your contract to take out everything you have made on the contract, then take that lump sum of cash home with you to deposit in your bank account.
By the amount of that fee, it sounds like the money is being sent bank wire, versus a traditional bank direct deposit . They might have to do it this way due to needing to process banking while traveling around the world
A good singer is worth their weight in gold though. That's about the hardest "instrument". A really good "name" instrumentalist should get their own cabin too, but in all cases it's a LOT of work to get that good.
Ivan Vidakovic From what I saw, the medical center was quite small. One doctor and a handful of nurses. That was about it. I could be wrong. But I also didn’t spend much time with them. The medical staff kept to themselves a lot.

anakein I never made a video about that. But it was easy. It’s basically a physical. They sent a list and I just handed that to the people at the care facility. I had to play out of pocket, but I was reimbursed by the cruise line when I boarded my first ship. That reimbursable money was likely put on my first paycheck
Coffee With Sean I actually have a bit of gluten sensitivity, not a full blown allergy that would require an epipen or even meds. I mainly stick with a rice based diet. I can even ingest gluten in moderate amounts, only a binge would lead to a diarrhea. Also, had a few cavities filled when I was in my early teens, relics of a sweet tooth. Worried about these two issues specifically. Please do a video on the PEME sometime, couldn't find a reliable and succinct insider's scoop on that one yet. Bet that's gonna be of use to many out there pondering these questions...but good job with the videos anyway, great stuff and great presentation! $500 is exactly 12,250... and currently i get payed $1.30 an hour. so i understand why most ppl put up with so much cuz once u get back home you can build a house. buy a car your pretty well off.
D E cell phone? You may be able to speak to your cell phone company and ask them for the months you’re out of town to not have your phone on and maybe you’ll save money. But then you wouldn’t be able to make calls anywhere. But it may be worth it to save some money

Yeah, I live in one of those countries. But a retail position on the ship pays a lot more than the same position on land (in my country). AND you don't have the same expenses.

If your looking to make money the cruise ship might not be your thing...if your thinking the service industry is a bad job with no money your wrong....I retired from the Hotel/Country club industry....some jobs pay crap but there fun...I worked 33 years total, figured out who made the good money and how to get that job....if you like the work and stay long enough you will find that you will make that money....remember what he said about the USD....it is not much when there's no exchange rate...ahhhh. But all jobs have their perks..like hotels... I could travel to a fun city and stay in a 4 star hotel in New York City for $25.00 a night....the Country clubs were great too....They would close for the winter...I could then go On a Cruise....made great money towards the end...retired Mtr'D...started as a bar back,houseman....retired now with a small pension yet....Bottom line if you start at the bottom and stay long enough you will do fine...even tho Unions are a thing of the past....this video he is telling you a lot of true dat things too....best of luck and follow your dreams while your young...you only go around once remember...
Lovsonvk Oldiaprie every single security officer on all of my ships were from Nepal. The worked long hours. They had be up first for all the ports and stay up last for all the ports. They also were the ones who had to check everyone in and out of each port so my guess would be security were the crew members who got off the ship the least. But I’m not sure how they divided up the work shifts so I could be wrong.
Depends on state. Virginia no insurance they want their plates. If you own car have title you can go without insurance. But you should get coverage for theft or other type loss while stored.

My best advise if you want money get a position in restaurant, bar, housekeeping, money with A LOT of work. If you want more time to see and travel go for a position in Casino, the shops, Art, Guest RElations, Entertainment. You will no see a paycheck higher than 3 probably 4 k but you´ll have more free time. Good luck! :)

Wow my son lived with me til he found a house he was going to purchase. He saved as much money for his down payment and was in the middle of closing the week hurricane Michael hit. He lost everything. House was gone. He now lives with us and just got a 2018 truck. His car he had went thru the hurricane and we kept it on life support to get him back and forth to work. His fiance lost her brand new car thru the hurricane so I sold her my Veloster and got a new car. I can't imagine parents not helping their child unless drugs, drinking, won't get a job etc were a problem. I have one of them. But a good young adult couple I would give my last dollar to.

Fair warning to anyone working on a ship for the first time, it's going to be reallly hard to save money. Crew bar, port food and experiences, souvenirs... My first three contracts I would have potentially come home with $10k each. Instead, I came home with about $2000 each time, lol. But the experience was worth it.

Hi I did the Disney Dream cruise which was awesome. We had 3 waiters who took care of us. One told us he had 6 months contract and 6 months at home in Portugal. Is that correct you do 6 months onboard and 6 months off. He said he’s been working at least 4 years

Hey man, nice video, I am hesitating if to start as a receptionist for any cruise company, what do you recommend?
I definitely think you should do it. That itch you have, that though to maybe try it, will never go away. And you will look back years later and still wish you had done it. Just go for it. Apply and see what happens. Its only about half a year out of your life. And if you hate it, you don't have to go back. I would rather see you go for it and then stop, rather than never do it and always wonder it.
When you go, however, make sure you have tied up lose ends back home. Don't have any bills or expenses while you're away. If you can, of course. The less you have to worry about or pay for while you're on the ship, the more enjoyable your time will be AND the more money you will save and/or be able to spend on awesome stuff while traveling.

I used to hang out with a girl who was a pastry chef. She was super cool but I know she didn't want to stay there forever. I remember her saying to me that it was tough being in the kitchen all day under those florescent lights. But she absolutely loved her co-workers. She was the only girl so they all called her "Princess." I think with any job on ships you will have long days and a lot of hours working. But, I also look at it as a super intensive resume builder. If you only do one or two contracts, you will have built your baking chops to a maximum. You will have baked so many things, for so many people, if you decide to go back to baking on land you should have a little bit of a leg up. Not to mention, anyone you go and try to work for on land will be super jealous and interested of your cruise ship stories. I think it could be worth trying for one contract. However, I myself was really happy to be able to leave my office all the time and walk around. But that's just me. Also, you wouldn't be following your own recipes and you probably wouldn't feel fulfilled on ships as a learned baker. You will follow the strict company recipes and guidelines. But you may find yourself able to experiment in you down time. Who knows? But for the most part you would be probably doing the same stuff daily, unfortunately. There isn't too much glamour in the work part of ship life.

Yes but usually you'd be getting paid less on land for the same job (if you convert your pay to dollars). At least that's how it is in my country. And you don't have the same expenses.

Verzac3 Dreams maybe for a specific cruise line for a specific guest service role you need to know 4. And yes more languages will likely get the job sooner. But continue to apply to all cruise lines. English is the language you need for guests. Don’t listen to whoever is telling you that negative stuff

Julio Sousa Matos Yeah. You can watch my grooming video. But it depends on where that tattoo is. If you can hide it with clothes you’re good. If you have a job that is not very much in front of guests you’re good. I have a tattoo on my forearm and I was fine. I worked with one guy who had a full sleeve but as long as he wore a long shirt he was good. Just talk to the recruiters about it and you should be fine.

Youth staff made probably 1800 per month. Singers and dancers made probably around 2500 a month. I would assume you will be around 2000 per month. But you will get free food and room. It’s paid in US currency. What country are you coming from?

Saige Wesley auto pay from an account that has plenty of money in it before you leave. But I actually pay for the full year ahead of time. I like to not have to worry about monthly payments. Some insurance companies will even work with you so if you ask them; they may be able to give you a lower rate while you’re gone knowing the car will not be driven. You just have to ask if they have a program like that.

Alex Ogilvie to my knowledge, the companies pay for nearly everything. Some things like medical testing cost you will have to pay yourself and then the company will reimburse you. You will probably have to pay for your own passport. And you may have to pay for some of the cost of a few other minute things depending on your particular country.

Richard Bonnke Go to all the cruise line sites and find the list of agencies they work with to find new crew members. Contact the agency for your country and apply to them. If you can apply straight to the company, do that too. In your application and resume, highlight your talents specifically to that job and also customer service. Then keep applying. All the time. To all the companies. Also don’t just apply to one job. If you think you would like the automation engineer job or cruise staff or youth staff or Broadcast or stage hand, apply there too. Because once on the ship, you can ask to cross train for the job you really want. Good luck!

$16 to transfer money to your home bank account? That sounds like extortion to me... It sounds like cruise lines are finding ways to pay their employees increasingly lower wages, and charging them for more services... Cruise lines used to pay in cash exclusively. They should still do so. They used to pay cash, then the employees could either stash their money in their safe until the end of the contract and deposit the lump sum when they get home, or they could store their money in the ship's financial office for a small fee until the end of the contract...
I guess you can't avoid paying fees completely, so I think a good way to minimize the fee to transfer money between your accounts is to use the ATM once at the end of your contract to take out everything you have made on the contract, then take that lump sum of cash home with you to deposit in your bank account.
By the amount of that fee, it sounds like the money is being sent bank wire, versus a traditional bank direct deposit . They might have to do it this way due to needing to process banking while traveling around the world

anakein I never made a video about that. But it was easy. It’s basically a physical. They sent a list and I just handed that to the people at the care facility. I had to play out of pocket, but I was reimbursed by the cruise line when I boarded my first ship. That reimbursable money was likely put on my first paycheck
Coffee With Sean I actually have a bit of gluten sensitivity, not a full blown allergy that would require an epipen or even meds. I mainly stick with a rice based diet. I can even ingest gluten in moderate amounts, only a binge would lead to a diarrhea. Also, had a few cavities filled when I was in my early teens, relics of a sweet tooth. Worried about these two issues specifically. Please do a video on the PEME sometime, couldn't find a reliable and succinct insider's scoop on that one yet. Bet that's gonna be of use to many out there pondering these questions...but good job with the videos anyway, great stuff and great presentation! D E cell phone? You may be able to speak to your cell phone company and ask them for the months you’re out of town to not have your phone on and maybe you’ll save money. But then you wouldn’t be able to make calls anywhere. But it may be worth it to save some money

If your looking to make money the cruise ship might not be your thing...if your thinking the service industry is a bad job with no money your wrong....I retired from the Hotel/Country club industry....some jobs pay crap but there fun...I worked 33 years total, figured out who made the good money and how to get that job....if you like the work and stay long enough you will find that you will make that money....remember what he said about the USD....it is not much when there's no exchange rate...ahhhh. But all jobs have their perks..like hotels... I could travel to a fun city and stay in a 4 star hotel in New York City for $25.00 a night....the Country clubs were great too....They would close for the winter...I could then go On a Cruise....made great money towards the end...retired Mtr'D...started as a bar back,houseman....retired now with a small pension yet....Bottom line if you start at the bottom and stay long enough you will do fine...even tho Unions are a thing of the past....this video he is telling you a lot of true dat things too....best of luck and follow your dreams while your young...you only go around once remember...

Lovsonvk Oldiaprie every single security officer on all of my ships were from Nepal. The worked long hours. They had be up first for all the ports and stay up last for all the ports. They also were the ones who had to check everyone in and out of each port so my guess would be security were the crew members who got off the ship the least. But I’m not sure how they divided up the work shifts so I could be wrong.

Depends on state. Virginia no insurance they want their plates. If you own car have title you can go without insurance. But you should get coverage for theft or other type loss while stored.
