My fave for the "early 2000's tactical FPS games" were the Delta Force titles. Mostly, Land Warrior, Task Force Dagger, Black Hawk Down, and its expansion. My most fave feature for those games; comes with an easy-to-learn-and-use mission editor. Fun to sandbox scenarios or missions that I specifically want, no matter how silly it may become.
My favorite game (and probably the first one I played) was Delta Force, as a tradition in all eastern european families father teaches you how to torrent, and gets you some games. Never went past the 1st level, was still pretty cool.
One saving grace of this series, or at least Covert Assault that me and my brother used to play, is 2-player split screen co-op mode. Even as kids we understand how janky the game was, and had our own fun by not taking it seriously. In the first mission, one objective is to storm an enemy mansion filled with guards. But instead of doing what the game expected, we just brought grenades as many as possible, then lobbing them blindly from safe place, listening to death cries of the guards until they're no more. They're stupid enough to stand still amidst all the explosion, not even trying to try attack our position. Fun times.
It's bizarre how the Spec Ops series would later lead to Spec Ops: The Line, which is quite honestly the best, most effective postmodern game ever made, bar none. The Line, unlike OTHER postmodern games that came out after, just gave you subtle hints that something isn't quite right, up until the seventh level where in you walk into the aftermath of a white phosphorous attack, and THEN the deconstruction begins and you understand what's going on. Truly bizarre how this bad, budget tactical shooter would lead into a masterpiece that's in serious need of a remaster.
I practically grew up playing Conflict: Desert Storm, splitscreen co-op on the gamecube with 3 siblings? It was literally made for families like mine. Never could get into any other title in the series for whatever reason.

Spec Ops The Line really has absolutely nothing to do with this game, thats why I didnt mention the line at all, they kept switching developers and all the games in the series are completely unrelated xD. Lugo didn't hear the shit coming out of his mouth.
The AVGN should review these games. That would be a fun episode. All of them have shitty ai for both enemies and allies
Pre Halo shooters are such a wild blind grab bag of quality.
I just remembered something. Rainbow six was very serious way back in the 90's

Good god I remember this game on the dreamcast I think.

This is the same series that Spec Ops: The Line comes from
not really tbh, officially same franchise, but each and every game was developed by different people and studios and have nothing to do with each other. xd
Examined Life Of Gaming has the only good reviews of these games for such a long time.
Black Hawk Down on the PS2 was a good game of 2000s tactical shooter i swear me and my sister deathmatched against each other on that game for hours
I dont think I ever played that one :o
@@Br0leg there is some really good map design and the weapons felt balanced and okay for PS2. kinda wish it got either a fan remaster mod or an official remake... even though it would get clouded over by the next call of duty game
I had Ranger elite and what a wonderful game that was. I completed the game (I only managed to get silvers stars mostly) in one sitting after I came back home from school. The g11 is the meta for the game lmao
I salute you for that lmao
