    Acetone is very flammable and the fumes seek low areas which can pool there. Don't use large quantities like this indoors or near anything that can ignite the vapor and keep the fumes away from all electric motors and flame sources like water heaters, stoves and house heaters. I was a firefighter for 14 years and acetone is one of those things we routinely see the people tragically underestimate.

    I see some comments that some people tried using acetone and it didn’t work, and they are not sure what liner is in there tank, I was in the same boat. Go to Lowe’s or something and get some kwik strip paint stripper and dump it in the tank. It will remove the sealer and also it can reveal any hidden pin holes, by making tiny spots on your tank where the paint is stripped

    Thanks a ton for making this vid! I have an awesome tank with a pinhole leak that was lined with POR15. The idea of dumping aircraft cleaner in there and trying to remove that goopy mess is a nightmare. Gonna try out acetone!

    Give ya the tip.For removing por15 liner use vinegar.Acetone and methylene chloride dont work. Oh and after a week of so soaking use a coat hanger or similar to jag and hook the bits of liner out.I have spent literally months stuffing with a big honda vf1000r tank to the point that i wont be using por 15 in this or any other tank ever again.Followed all procedures to the letter and even went further with time,cleaning ,drying.Frustrating as F%$%'

    • @techo61
      @techo61 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend you don't put any liner in a fuel tank, they'll inevitably break away from the surface then you're stuck with a tank rusting under the liner. I use Apple Cider Vinegar with 100% success to remove the heaviest of rust. I simply seal the tank with aluminium tape over all holes, fill with approx 2 litre of Apple Cider Vinegar (more if you like, it’s cheap) and roll the tank around for 40 mins or so. Sometimes for a badly rusted tank I'll use steel shot (from a gun shop) to agitate the surface and speed up the process then remove the shot with a magnet.

    I have an 85 Suzuki GS700e that has a green sealant/lining inside. It's peeling and I can tell that the bottom of the tank has more of it sitting. I cant seem to find any kind of green tank liner in the history books and acetone didn't work on a piece that I pulled out. Any ideas?

      Have you tried paint stripper? They are usually really aggressive at lifting paints and other coatings. Some adhesive removers (the ones that have that strong "fake" citrus smell) usually also work.

    Hi thanks for the video, i have a badly lined tank with Por15, trying the Acetone, but its not that effective as yours, its been already all night and so far its just peeling slowly from the sides, so im guessing its all about the acetone properties, if you could mention them so i could compare please

    • @Kcowboy28
      @Kcowboy28 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in the same situation. I left Acetone in there for quite an hour or so and I only see one section that is slowly peeling. I guess I'll just leave it in there for a day or so. Did you end up having success?

      @@Kcowboy28 i ended up leaving it there for over a week with no success unfortunately...it did weaken a few parts but not melting it, in fact the acetone was so clean i kept it for using in cleaning carbs. @@mangodaddy7485 Wow! Yeah I see just a couple areas that look hopeful, but the rest of the tank looks like it hasn't budged at all. I wonder if the Por15 in this video was an older formula or just very old and weak.

      @mangodaddy7485 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kcowboy28 i suspect more on the type of Acetone used, if like me you live in Europe there is a big chance that European Acetone is fairly weaker due to EU restrictions. So goes for paint remover the main coposition that will disintegrate POR15 is not used in EU anymore.

    This did not work on my Gas tank.
    Acetone, MEK neither dissolved the liner that was in my tank. The acetone separated the liner from the tank, but then big chunks remained. Not sure what liner had been put in mine. Seems like aftermarket. Was very thick and bubbly in places. Grey. I had to remove because it was already failing and separating. Good luck!
