@@lonesometinman3147I would have to see photos of the inside of the fuel tank to give a proper answer. If the original liner is peeling or there is rust developing inside the fuel tank, then I would definitely recommend a tank liner
Awesome video. I am about to do this to the same exact tank for a 1995 ultra classic. What type of plugs did you use to cap off the openings? What about the size of the bungs? Thank you!
@Alex Escobar: Yes, the tank liner only needs one even coat on the inside. Once the interior has been completely coated, take the paint brush supplied with the kit, use the brush to soak up any excess liner, and carefully remove any puddles of liner out of the tank. You can also use this brush to touch up any areas that the liner did not reach. Air dry, DO NOT SET IN THE SUN OR HEAT.
Curious, I have a 2001 FLSTFI Harley Davidson Fatboy that my brother left me when he pasted away from cancer and it set for over 7 years before his wife finally transferred the title of to me and allowed me to get the motorcycle. The fuel in the tank went bad (smells like varnish) and ruined the liner inside to a point where a lot of it is flaking up. What would it cost me to have it cleaned with a degreaser or an acid and re-lined. Thanks for your time and this was a great video...thanks
Absolutely, remove your check valve or petcock and protect your threads with tape. You will remove ALL of your internal components; pump, hoses, pressure regulator, and hardware before stripping the inside of your fuel tank. Sanding and scouring the inside of the fuel tank is the key step to allow the epoxy liner to bond properly.
I have a 1978 Honda Z50 with the original tank and paint in good order. The tank liner looks like POR15 and has failed. Will the product you used to clean this tank work on my tank? if so, what is the name of it?. Thanks and good video!
The first ingredient is Klean Strip which is a degreaser to remove the oils from the gas out of the gas tank. 2nd is the rust blast which neutralizes the rust. The last ingredient is the epoxy coating
What about the Harley tanks that have the tabs on the side of the backbone to hold the fuel sending unit . Wondering what you do to make sure the coating does't fill that space so the sending unit will slide and clip in after coating . Plus my sending unit has a copper tab on the back side that grounds to the tank . 2007 Softail heritage Classic sending unit 75276-06A
@@user-ns8nv9em8w I have not seen anyone address this issue so I didn't know how that would work . I just felt there would be a build up only the 4 tabs and the locking tab at the bottom and it would not fit in . I had a shop tell me to blow the liner out the tabs gently before it dried but felt this would compromise the liner for a later failure .
Ethanol fuel is the culprit of clogging carburetors due to gumming up as well as absorbing moisture into fuel tanks resulting in rust. These fuel tank liners will prevent ethanol fuel from ever causing rust to form. If fuel is sitting inside your tank for more than 3 weeks, I suggest using a fuel additive like STA-BIL or non ethanol fuel to prevent coagulation.
@Tanim: I’ve tried a handful of tank liners over the years and found that the KBS coating was by far the best, but it must be applied properly. Some fuel tanks we have done tank liners on were in such bad shape that they needed to be stripped 2-3 times before it was ready for the final epoxy coating. If you have questions before doing a tank liner, send me an email to marcel@rushbikes.com and we can go over the steps together. I’d be happy to help you out.
@Rusty Stator: Those small hole tank jobs can be a nightmare, but not impossible. I will do a video on one of these tanks to show our audience how it’s done. Thank you for your comments.
Kbs coatings hands down the BEST fuel tank liner
There's a shop owner down here where I live that says the tank we hired him to do doesn't need to be sealed.
Can you comment on that please.

This is the exact problemI'm having with my bike's tank! Although Houston isn't that far fr me (san antonio) wish you were here lol. Great video.
Man.. that is a hell of a job!! My goodness!
I have a similar Harley gas tank (about 5 gallons) did you pour out some excess liner?
Thanks for the video.

What keeps the bottom cross over hose fittings from clogging? Basically the same procedure for new aftermarket tanks?

Man that would probably cost you 250-350 dollars
How much would a job like this cost on a 2000 Dyna with a center fill tank?
Tank liner jobs all run around $400. It’s an additional $150 if someone has installed an aftermarket liner and we have to strip it out.
Do I need to remove the fuel check valves. Won’t they get ruined by the new liner?

Is there a list of all ingredients you used for this project? Thanks

Awesome! Simple enough I guess. Thanks
What did you do to the fuel line connected to the quick release that is inside the tank?
What products did you use?
Awesome job! Just got my order in.. this help out a bunch.. thx
Thank you. Outstanding video and greatly appreciate it.

Your sending unit will still slide in.

Do i need to remove all of the old liner?
What do you recommend redoing a gas tank that had a liner put in but didn’t adhere to the metal, and has never had any fuel in it ?
KBS coating Stripper
how well would it hold ethanol added gasoline?

"Eight thirty seconds screws." 🤣
That would be one index finger and two knuckles from King Henry VIII's nose.🤣🤣🤣
LOL #8-32 machine screw.
How do you not get flash rust?
What has your experience been of KBS strip?

Actually such a helpful video. Thanks bro
Great demonstration
Super dope tutorial
Now do a tank without a massive opening.... 😅

Looks like we'll be waiting for a while
Yea I was think I wish I could fit my hand in my tank that would be nifty
@@user-ns8nv9em8w how long do we need to wait for that?
Where are you located!
Dude found the easiest tank to work with
You need more than one gasket.
i’m in pa what if i shipped to you and sent over electronical payment?

Great video man thanks
Do you have location in California
@Elmero Zohan: I currently operate out of Houston, TX. Email sales@rushbikes.com with your details and perhaps we can arrange your tank to be shipped.

You’re absolutely right. Thanks for looking out.
