    • @LiveFreeOrDie2A

I take back my prior comment calling the non-disabled Spanish basketball players “sociopaths”, I commented before watching the video. I can see how they were manipulated into going along with the scheme, especially when the intitial “justification” for doing so, while not morally correct, proved to be factually correct. The fact that other countries WERE doing it too. In their minds, rather than “cheating” they were leveling the playing field for their remaining truly disabled teammates. Which I’m sure was the original motivation that led the disgraced head of the Spanish teams to go down that scandalous path, as it was apparently an open secret this was rampant.

Everywhere on YT I see these kinds of comments, "how could (insert) do (so and so)?" *BECAUSE THEY ARE PEOPLE.* We are animals, we crave power and wealth (the latter being things like "territory" in the animal kingdom). When it is dangled in front of them, many take it. Of course not everyone takes it either for fear of repercussion or moral standing, but everyone has the desire to nonetheless. The more widespread, the easier to say "yes."
There really are too many people ignorant of their own nature. You think most people wake up one day and decide "I'm bored, I think I'll cheat from now on"? No. Most don't even give it any thought until the opportunity presents itself. It is that easy to fall from grace. Most bad people aren't sticking their pinky fingers in their mouths and laughing maniacally. Most cheaters, criminals, etc are just people and that is what people are capable of.

That poor 16-year-old coached into believing she had an actual disability by adults in her life, only for her to bear the public outrage and stripping of her medal ): probably ruined her passion for competing and even sporting in general, that’s her whole damn career; I bet a lot of passion and dreams have been crushed by this faking/exaggerating forced on them until they have a rare chance to blow the whistle. No sympathy for those who choose to on their own, but I have to express at least a little for those ‘coached’ into it, especially at age 16….that’s so cruel

Cheating in sports, while frowned upon and actively discouraged and humiliated, is what sometimes people do to remain competitive. But this one just takes the cake because they just pretended to be disabled only to take the pride and prize from those who actually deserved it.

How can you feel proud of the win, plus stealing the thunder of those who have it hard enough?
The exceptional drive to ascend of these athletes in general, but the special - insane mental fortitude. Embodiment of mind over matter, even with major difficulties of daily life doing basics we all take for granted and they never even get to in many cases, the will to power through it all and prevail, sometimes to performances better than able bodied regular folks within their forte, they're still elite athletes and it's a crazy gap professionally trained to a novice, even with strength/ability differences (depending on the athletes and the ave Joe's) but from all the sails that you had to steal the wind from, wtaf makes you feel like it's worthwhile to cheat but in this context more than ever, how can you feel good about yourself? Maybe they should try the gymnastics team try outs cos fkd if I know how many hoops could help you stick that landing for the win to want to do this kind of BS.
These people who are role models not just to fellow diff abled to dare to dream or drive to do THEIR best, but examples to everyone about the human spirit and having heart- making us all reflect and Revere their sheer determination and discipline and then also having the short straw, and no excuses still, exemplars to us all as humans. They make us ALL impressed with their go, to look at ourselves and do better, so really outstanding examples of humanity to rob this from and in a realm where they have the chance to shine, it's almost impressive the level of letting go they are capable of in their minds, if it wasn't so pathetic.

Took years of research to learn that Spain is the #1 place to escape to in the case that the world looks like it's headed to WW3. You'll want to apply for citizenship sooner than later though cause otherwise they'll get flooded with applications, as was the case in WW2.

If people can't be honest about their disabilities at that level of competition, they might as well only allow athletes who are missing limbs to compete. Can't fake that.
But really, there will always be an incentive for the athletes to compete at a lower class. There's no easy solution and I suspect that more disabled athletes will always be at a severe disadvantage due to the incentive for dishonesty.

Why would you even care about winning at a disabled sport? it gets barely any recognition or kudos, people just pity you if anything. Like "awww look he's doing really well for a disabled person" lmao who cares??

Idk how people can keep the disabled persona going all the time without forgetting your normal and acting so? You have to be some kind of low to do that!! This is crazy!

All the basketball players needed to do is drink a bunch of Vagisil and watch some nascar and they could have won for real
