    This is what a top echelon athlete does; identifies their one or two weaknesses and works incredibly hard to improve. This video demonstrates exactly that. LS is elite and this swim TT lead to a breakthrough realization. Beautiful to see!!!

    • @amblincork
      @amblincork 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not going out too hard is the advice given to every first timer trying a marathon - the only surprise to see Lionel talking about it is the fact that an Ironman Athlete is speaking about it as if he has just discovered it !!

    • @natedogg1144
      @natedogg1144 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amblincork except for at his level, LS has to figure out how to go out crazy hard, without crushing himself, so he doesn't get dropped by the swim pack he needs to be in.

    • @amblincork
      @amblincork 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@natedogg1144 No - what he is trying to do is go out at a controlled pace without getting frustrated , going at a crazy pace which results in him not using best form and technique and ending up wasting energy and underperforming - or top put it another way not to act as if he is a indisciplined amateur

    As with most things in life, getting the right mindset right is one of the most difficult things to achieve, but it usually reaps the biggest rewards. Looks like you're making great progress though! Hopefully you'll be able to carry this across into races, as it's very easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget about the plan.

    Grew up swimming but the few sessions i’ve had in the pool recently have been hard. Breathing out of control. Really straining in the water and constantly in an anaerobic state. I had a session a couple of days ago while focusing on your advice of staying aerobic and focusing on controlling my breathing and also reminding myself that swimming harder does not mean swimming faster! It ended up being a solid solid workout. Appreciate this series. It helped a ex swimmer feel good in the water again.

    Happy Birthday Legend,
    Swimming is arm speed, strength through water (like you push hard on bike or run) you need to teach yourself to push hard through the water. your lungs start to get use to it and will then hold the faster pace. Your engine there its strong. Also i found swimming 6km session helps especially in the off season to build that swim base. Usually a 1500m warm up, 3km main set, kick, then warm down.

    I am a 230 pound retired pro strongman competitor posing as an Ironman. I can tell you with absolute certainty that negative splitting is crucial for me. Whenever I go full gas out of the gate I’m struggling to the end. When I build into it and rev the engine I feel stronger at the end than I did at the start. Being so heavy, the metabolic requirements of my musculature are too high and I suffer from the “flood the system” exactly as you described it. Keep up the good work Lionel. Always fun to follow your training.

      Same, in my races the first part of the swim is horrible. When i finally get my rhythm it starts the make fun.
      I guess the chaotic start f's me up. I dont like this water battle at all and i also dont like this swim sprint to get into a position.
      Maybe Lionels point holds true for me as well. Maybe i need to slow down a bit, and overall i would be faster with less effort.

The video is 15 minutes long and the guy is really positive about your improvements on technique and especially your 'catch'.
