    If you used a white background (a white cardboard sheet would do) it would work as a bouncing surface and create a filler light. Your main light is strong but it’s very harsh and it creates shadows so dark that sometimes it’s difficult to appreciate the details of the tree. The trunk of the first ficus for instance looks as if it has an inverse taper and I cannot tell if it’s just the lighting.
    Even a light diffuser to soften the main light would give a better effect.
    Good job fixing the truck. That’s a labour of love. I bet in the end it will cost you more than buying a new one. 😁

      @jessevandellen2439 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea actually - I noticed the same! I wondered if he could just put a diffuser on it at the very least - which would be a simple addition.

      A white background is definitely better imo. Im a MiraiLive member and they use white instead of black and it allows for such better viewing of the negative space(s) in the compositions. I enjoy black when a bonsai is on display or something of that nature but white is the way to go Nigel. Maybe get some poster board and give it a try one episode. Im sure many others would agree

      Thanks, I'll give it a try. I haven't done much in the plant room, I'm waiting to get the rest of the roof fixed. At the moment it drips and splashes in that area. I'll try and get it set up as more of a video studio in the future as I get my outdoor greenhouse up and running.

    One day ill have me a plant room too! 😁 The idea of being able to have an entire space for trees of a tropical nature makes the spectrum of trees so much wider that one could care for! You're doing fantastic Nigel and I see how you help out...like with the community garden and getting your truck fixed for that purpose...thanks for that! You have the subscribers and its nice to see someone doing something good with it. Hope all is great up there! Waiting for spring down here haha. No greenhouse yet so ive gotta wait a bit longer b4 I can start repotting...but I can just binge watch playlists on your channel till then haha! Gotta go make some food now..."so here I go"...(had to do it lol)

    This is a great series Nigel. The plants are looking great after the refresh, looking forward to getting to my own after this inspiration. The truck is really getting there now and I'm glad to hear your sympathetic restoration means you're keeping that original patina as best you can. That being said, have you considered a liner of some type for the pickup bed to add to its longevity? Perhaps a job for another time?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Leigh, I'm going to protect the bed with linseed oil and then place a sheet of plywood on the floor. This should keep it is good shape, and I'll be careful with it also! I was going to get a bed liner sprayed in, but I had to cut costs and this was one option to go.

    My trees are in development when is the best time to prune for ramification? Thanks in advance love ur work keep it up

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is best to let your tree grow to gain vigor and health and when they have at least 6 pairs of new leaves, you can prune them back to the first or second pair. You should do this at a time of the year when the tree has good weather for recovery. I usually like to prune in fall, as the trees come inside for the winter.

    Nigel, you are my favorite youtube channel and absolutely love bonsai as a result of you, but I can't help but feel like the bonsai videos are lacking? Don't get me wrong, I love old trucks and appreciate your orchard project, just feel like updates on unique bonsai may have taken a small backseat to all the orchard/truck videos. Obviously I may be in the minority with that opinion, so please take with a grain of salt :)

    • @invertevision4757
      @invertevision4757 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I sorta agree but...the entire project of the community garden is amazing in my opinion! I live in Tennessee in the states and I sooo wish we had something like that here! To think/know that many generations to come will have the opportunity to get free fruit/nuts/berries/etc. and also grow their own food if they so want..., that's how the entire world should be. Environmentally friendly and sustainable. I mean, Nigel, think about it...your son, his kids (when he has them lol or just 1) and their kids will have that for years to come. Generation after generation will be able to have access to a sustainable way of life if they so choose. Bonsai definitely brings out the best in people! Most people anyway haha. Looking forward to spring and seeing those thuja...and that slanting birds-nest spruce you have. Absolutely love that spruce!

      In many of my videos, the tree looks better before I do the work! Many of the operations I do are for long term gains and the before and after isn't of much use. I will make videos of the trees progression over many years one of these days, sort of a quick summary of the progress!
