This is beyond artistic Nigel. I'm an artist myself, and I can see you painting you trees in 3D space. The only difference is I paint, you prune. Really great videos, God bless.
When people ask me who I want to be when I'm older, I say Nigel Saunders from the Bonsai Zone. Love the animal ornaments with the plants too, I do the same with my succulent collection but with dinosaurs
always great videos with diverse content and the interaction with the baby bird was incredible Nigel ... I have a series of birds in my nursery ... I really like it, because we are part of the same nature ... plants .... animals ... people ... big hug
The pros and cons of perlife as a soil. it is light weight and drains well. this makes it nice for large plants especially those that want the soil a little on the dry side. The drawback is that it also holds less nutrients. This means that in order to keep the plant healthy you need to be more diligent with fertilizing the soil.
I think it has to be a great day, some trees done and repotted ,the robin fed and this heavyduty sturdy car almost finished off,so,yes, thanks for sharing,it was fun to watch.
After a long I'm seeing your "Root over Temple" Fantastic job done on it and it's looking great in the new pot. And Your Robin is so familiar to you, it's amazing Nigel. Nature has a definite bless on you. Love from India.
Watching you feed the young robin? Really cool...Really like the root over temple project and the your improvements are right on the money...Thanks, as always for sharing this journey...
I have to admit, when i saw this tree over temple, it brought tears to my eyes. as i have been moved when i was at 3 ancient temples in cambodia and thailand and indonesia. your piece is truly lovely.
I find that moss makes the trees WAY easier to water as it protects the soil from getting washed out as you spray. Sounds obvious, but nobody seems to mention that...Also, the truck looks freaking AWESOME. So jealous. Really well done.
Thanks very much, yes the moss is good for holding the soil all together, especially on hills. I think the truck will be like my bonsai, never finished and always being refined!
Nigel, this is fantastic! I have a 30 year old ficus, root over rock, and it is over due for re-pot. I was surprised at the amount of perlite, versus actual soil!! I had no idea! I must consider this option next spring,as your wisdom is invaluable.
I'm hoping the roots will like the perlite better than the bonsai soil and I'll get more surface roots with it. We'll see at the end of summer how the tree is doing!
That tree is amazing! So is the truck. And you too. :) Your Robin is doing well! Has it met others yet? I wonder if it will fly south, ours stayed last winter.
Robin seems to enjoy the outdoors, but she likes to be indoors too! Last night I brought her in so she didn't get rained on. She seems to be enjoying the freedom, she flies all over the neighborhood and just shows up for feeding. She would fly south if we followed her with dog food! I see her eating bugs and worms, so we think she will go wild before winter, hopefully! The truck is getting there, like bonsai, I think it will be a never ending project! My arms are back to normal today finally!
@@TheBonsaiZone Well done Nigel! You have a wonderful caring family. :) Glad your skin tone is back to normal! Hi Nigel, I've been following your truly GREAT videos. Thank you for all the info! So fun to watch it all. I have a question for you. If I have a few small Ficus microcarpa I propagated and one ginseng ficus I bought. I wanted to know how do I create these big root bulges from a cutting. I couldn't find any info about how they are made.
Am I finally ready to take my freshman level final exam from Bonsai Zone University? I watched this whole video and didn't scream @ any of the work! Bonsai Master Nigel, you taught this 'grasshopper' well. I'm going to miss Robin. So happy and lively. Hopefully instinct will keep Robin safe.

Nice one. Gives me some ideas on replicating something similar. May be I will try and reverse engineer the temple itself. Scan and 3D print it. Perlite is an excellent idea. I will try Coco chunks with perlite. Let me try before the heavy rain start. I have a Banyan that can be tried for this as well.
Beautiful choice for the Root over Temple Ficus benjamina. It looks perfect in that new pot. (And, so much better if it is lighter to pick up.) The plant updates are appreciated. Enjoyed seeing Robin. How long before Robin "leaves the Saunders' nest"? Good job on the orchard truck.

A nice video. The little bird is also very cute to look at, how trustfully it can be fed by you.
The bird is so cute, we have to feed her about every hour, I call her and she flies down from the trees for her food!

Using only perlite as a soil, would that mean you have to feed your plant nutrients more often ?
I add fertilizer to my water and fertilize all my trees daily, the trees in perlite should be fine with this also!
