Eh, it can happen sometimes especially between parents and children. Back when I was 12 and got taken away from my highly abusive and manipulative "mother" I also spent at least a year or two regularly crying myself to sleep, missing her, and wanting to go back to live with her. And even afterwards, I often initiated contact and also did a lot of stuff for her, with the hopes that she would one day realize and admit all the things she did and genuinely apologize. Took me a very long time to finally get to the point of just cutting all contact with her, I think I was like 25 or 26 when I finally managed to stop talking and responding to her calls and text messages.

The wedding planner contracts to plan the wedding. They don't contract to take a sum of money and use it to do whatever. They book everything and then gives the people paying a bill for what is booked. Yes the people can mention a budget which the planner can use to plan their moves in regard to the wedding but they don't contract for the full budget and then the planner spends however they want.

A wedding planner's reputation is on the line with every job they take. The reason his reputation took a hit is because he let it take the hit. The sister said that she was throwing a high class wedding and the planner did what he could with a promised $10k instead of the $30k that was supposed to be available, and then the sister blamed the planner for the wedding not being up to snuff and he kept his mouth shut about it.

The same reason she thinks it’s her fault is the same reason she handled the situation in a way to hurt everyone, that’s all she knows, as an adult it’s on her to get the therapy to fix that but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her husband it just means she needs to work on communicating in a less aggressive way, and remember that he’s a safe person. It can take a lifetime to undo the damage and trauma from narcissistic abuse that won’t change overnight. She didn’t go about it in the right way but she set the boundary not to answer the calls he should’ve just blocked the numbers and moved on, him not listening made her feel the way her mother makes her feel and she didn’t communicate effectively because she never learned how to. This is the exact reason my fiancé and I deal with our families separately my family drama’s bigger and more complicated so I sort it myself and vent to him when necessary, his is smaller and different so he manages it and I put myself on his level so that I don’t belittle his situation. In certain situations that separation between families is necessary, each of us knows we’re safe with the other and when we have children we’ll work on that together but knowing he’s an only child and his family dynamics he shouldn’t have to deal with my family and knowing how messed my family dynamics can be I shouldn’t have deal with his on top of mine. Actual handling of situations tends to work best that way and ghosting is actually a reliable method for dealing with narcissists it’s called stonewalling or sometimes grey rocking and it’s an effective therapy technique but also something you just pick up from being around narcissists if you give them nothing they get bored and they’ll get over themselves, when someone like that realises they have no power they move on

She was willing to let $40k just disappear - for the record, this amount of money being used in this way is a felony of the highest order. You can lie while you're drunk, but the lies are motivated by some kind of reasoning - the things you say, however, are impulsive. That's what it means to lose your inhibitions - you no longer have the capacity to prevent yourself from doing things that you wouldn't normally do. But, lying requires a bit of thought behind it, a reason to fabricate the truth and a reason to spread the fabrication. Most people who lie when they're drunk are lying to stay out of trouble, not to get into it.

Story one: Op can, infact, sue for the money back. One: the gift claiming will not stand for many factors take play, the fact op has a witness to the agreement of the money being used for one thing, that being her husband. Two, the fact being that op used a bank account to LEND money in installments to the mother for the house. And three, even if they claim it as a "gift" if it was GIFTED for a specific purpose and not used for said purpose, you can sue/be sued for failure to do so.

Story 1: one of my biggest pet peeves in life is lending money. People are so disrespectful. They assume just because you may happen to have come into some money that they’re entitled to some (or all) of it and don’t understand why you should be paid back. I’ve heard: “but you’re not really hurting for this money right?” 🤨 Also, I never lend if they don’t have CashApp. That allows us to completely transact through the app and keep track of how much has been lent versus paid back. Far easier to say “no” to the next ask when you can simply send them a screenshot of how much they already owe you from two years ago.

She got frustrated she didn't get angry he just did something she told him not to it isn't like she was gonna fight him over it. She was upset because her husband went against what she told him and against her plan and literally nothing else happened so it would be dumb to actually act like she was mad at her husband when at most it got him 5 minutes of scolding
Eh, it can happen sometimes especially between parents and children. Back when I was 12 and got taken away from my highly abusive and manipulative "mother" I also spent at least a year or two regularly crying myself to sleep, missing her, and wanting to go back to live with her. And even afterwards, I often initiated contact and also did a lot of stuff for her, with the hopes that she would one day realize and admit all the things she did and genuinely apologize. Took me a very long time to finally get to the point of just cutting all contact with her, I think I was like 25 or 26 when I finally managed to stop talking and responding to her calls and text messages.

The wedding planner contracts to plan the wedding. They don't contract to take a sum of money and use it to do whatever. They book everything and then gives the people paying a bill for what is booked.
Yes the people can mention a budget which the planner can use to plan their moves in regard to the wedding but they don't contract for the full budget and then the planner spends however they want.

I was infuriated with OP's weakness throughout the whole story, as well as with the wedding planner who foolishly decided to take the high road by not telling people the truth about the lackluster event. Taking the high road and turning the other cheek only works in movies. In reality it does nothing but give evil people full control of the narrative. Keeping quiet and taking the high road is nothing but enabling bad people to continue being bad without consequence.

The same reason she thinks it’s her fault is the same reason she handled the situation in a way to hurt everyone, that’s all she knows, as an adult it’s on her to get the therapy to fix that but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her husband it just means she needs to work on communicating in a less aggressive way, and remember that he’s a safe person. It can take a lifetime to undo the damage and trauma from narcissistic abuse that won’t change overnight. She didn’t go about it in the right way but she set the boundary not to answer the calls he should’ve just blocked the numbers and moved on, him not listening made her feel the way her mother makes her feel and she didn’t communicate effectively because she never learned how to. This is the exact reason my fiancé and I deal with our families separately my family drama’s bigger and more complicated so I sort it myself and vent to him when necessary, his is smaller and different so he manages it and I put myself on his level so that I don’t belittle his situation. In certain situations that separation between families is necessary, each of us knows we’re safe with the other and when we have children we’ll work on that together but knowing he’s an only child and his family dynamics he shouldn’t have to deal with my family and knowing how messed my family dynamics can be I shouldn’t have deal with his on top of mine. Actual handling of situations tends to work best that way and ghosting is actually a reliable method for dealing with narcissists it’s called stonewalling or sometimes grey rocking and it’s an effective therapy technique but also something you just pick up from being around narcissists if you give them nothing they get bored and they’ll get over themselves, when someone like that realises they have no power they move on

The amount of abuse OP had to suffer is so obvious in her unwillingness to financially destroy her family. She was willing to let $40k just disappear - for the record, this amount of money being used in this way is a felony of the highest order. It has real prison time, and with it being across state lines it would probably be a federal prison.

Story 1: Dont see why people are so annoyed with story 1. She was trying to get that sweet revenge and make them simmer but her husband couldn't keep his lips sealed. And I interpreted her "threat" to be a half joking one, like if he fucked up again she would get mad but nothing bad would actually happen (besides her getting mad and the repercussions from that). Glad she's doing fine now. Good idea from the husband to pay in enstallments, probably got saved a load of money that way.

One: the gift claiming will not stand for many factors take play, the fact op has a witness to the agreement of the money being used for one thing, that being her husband. Two, the fact being that op used a bank account to LEND money in installments to the mother for the house. And three, even if they claim it as a "gift" if it was GIFTED for a specific purpose and not used for said purpose, you can sue/be sued for failure to do so.

People have unhealthy obsession with weddings. Why would you EVER want to start a life together in debt? I think the same thing about wedding rings. Yes I am married. I know some people would probably say that that's an overreaction, but if someone is comfortable threatening you to get their own way, then that's a major issue that will only get worse if you don't make it clear that you are not going to tolerate being treated like that.

Story 1: one of my biggest pet peeves in life is lending money. People are so disrespectful. They assume just because you may happen to have come into some money that they’re entitled to some (or all) of it and don’t understand why you should be paid back. I’ve heard: “but you’re not really hurting for this money right?” 🤨
Also, I never lend if they don’t have CashApp. That allows us to completely transact through the app and keep track of how much has been lent versus paid back. Far easier to say “no” to the next ask when you can simply send them a screenshot of how much they already owe you from two years ago.

I don't see how the mother disowning her was such a threat. She basically only contacted as it was to get money and lie to her. She wasn't even invited to her sister's wedding.
