1962 Pacific Nuclear Tests by United States. Department of Energy. National Nuclear Security Administration.
The video shows the preparations, installation of safety monitoring and diagnostic equipment, placement of test and observation vessels, and the actual nuclear test of a Fleet Ballistic Missile. Participating in the test were personnel aboard the aircraft carrier Yorktown, the destroyer Norton Sound, and the submarine Carbonero.
The May 6, 1962, date loomed for the nuclear detonation FRIGATE BIRD, part of the Operation Dominic/Nougat test series. The test was conducted approximately 525 miles from Christmas Island, the nearest land mass, at coordinates for ground zero of North 4 degrees 50 minutes, West 149 degrees 25 minutes. The submerged submarine Ethan Allen, carrying 16 Polaris missiles, launched the missile, and the warhead detonated on target, giving the cameras and viewers a spectacular scene. The narrator closes: “Polaris on target. . .with design yield and full service.” The yield has not been announced, but it was enough to shake the crew of the submarine Carbonero for several seconds.
The second part of the video shows an antisubmarine rocket (ASROC) underwater nuclear weapons-effects test, described as another proof test of a Navy nuclear weapon system. It was configured as a nuclear depth charge. The video shows the preparations, placement of diagnostic
devices, safety precautions, and other activities performed in readiness for the test. The SWORDFISH test was conducted approximately 370 miles southwest of San Diego at North 31 degrees 14 minutes, West 124 degrees 13 minutes.
The ASROC was launched from the destroyer Agerholmn on May 11, 1962. Its target was a raft circled by diagnostic devices. The ASROC is shown flying for a short time before entering the water and detonating at a predetermined depth. The explosive force created a one-mile radius radioactive base surge, and it engulfed a target ship. Once the initial base surge subsided, a second plume was created from the detonation bubble, plummeting tons of water. The cameras captured sensational footage of the blast effects. The submarine Razorback, submerged at periscope level 2.5 miles from ground zero, is shown being tossed around. The full sequence of the nuclear depth bomb deployment is shown.

I watched a Trident missile launched from the San Diego area a few years ago.
I was looking South and saw this strange orange light slowly Rising, it didn't quite look like lights from an airplane so I just kept following it with my eyes, then it escaped the atmosphere right above me and left this gigantic strange glowing cloud way up in the atmosphere. It freaked everybody out all over Southern California and that's when they said it was a missile launched from a submarine in the Pacific test range.

Neat! They mention these tests in the movie "Trinity and Beyond" but only give a general overview. I've never seen a lot of this footage.

Wow, an A-3 Skywarrior. The only carrier deployable nuclear-armed strategic bomber. It was among the longest serving carrier-based aircraft in history.

The A3J/A-5 Vigilante served as the Navy's nuclear-armed strategic bomber too. It didn't have that role long though before the Navy gave up manned strategic bombers for SLBMs.

Very good vídeo.

I was exactly 19 1/2 years old when this test occured. There were so many tests of our nuclear weapons before, during; and after that. I quite imagine that by 21 years of age, every man, woman, and child in the world, along with animals and everything that was living were contaminated and still are till this date.
🤔🤪🤑😬😮‍💨💣💥👀To my child, grandchildren and most especially to my great-grand daughter, I say without hesitation and most humbly how sorry I am for my generation of this horrible "thing" that was created. Sincerely, I remain at 79 y.o., Sentebey

    • @buckhorncortez
      @buckhorncortez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The "thing" would always have been created. You can't hide science from scientists, and they're the ones who discovered and championed the development of technology. At 79 years old it was not YOUR generation that developed the technology. That happened over a period of time starting in about 1930 and ending with the Trinity test in 1945. You're at least two generations late with being responsible. Your apology is worthless as it only makes you feel better and does nothing for anyone else.

@@_MaxHeadroom_ yes, Japan was firebombed firebombed numerous times much the same a Dresden only bare in mind despite many factories being of relative modern construction that most urban areas were still made of wooden construction.
Nuclear power plants are also propping up the notion of a split atom.
The atom has never been split and every supposed nuclear power plant is in reality a draw on power and not a net contributing factor.
Every metre in altitude there’s an electric potential of 100v right up from a ~ earth to a + 5 million ionosphere/firmament.
Image what a National grid of superconducting cables can achieve bathed in ions and electrons.
Good luck there is indeed free energy, there always was and will be it’s simply hidden from view and given a different name and monetised.
