We took an almost direct hit last summer from a sun EMP. I was in the bulls eye and i heard a transformer blow down the road but the power did not go out. At the time I did not know about the EMP until later in the day and then it made sense why it blew. I also noticed a couple days later that just the tomato plants in the garden the leaves edges started to curl and turn brown. I cant say it was from the EMP but I am pretty sure that is what caused it.
A couple of thoughts... first, I appreciate the fact that you weren't screaming "the sky is falling" as far as the threat level of EMP's go. I also believe that I would rather spend most of my time and effort and money is preparing for something that has an 80% chance of affecting me than for something that has a 3% chance. Saying that, it is still wise to understand what EMP's are and how they can affect you. You mentioned a couple of times the threat of CME's and even compared the E3 wave to CME's, although you didn't come straight out and say it in those words. It is very true that we have a much bigger threat of seeing a direct, head-on CME than an HEMP... so, understanding CME's I believe is really important. You thing that you didn't mention is reason why the power grid is so susceptible to CME's. And understanding why it is is critical in learning how to protect against it. IF we had a direct CME hit we would most definitely have lots of hours to prepare ourselves for it. We would be unplugging anything and everything from the power grid. Anything left plugged in could then be affected. But here's what's not so evident in your presentation. CME's could take down the power grid because of the type of damage it causes. When a CME hits the power grid the CME looks like "quasi-DC" current, which, when hitting an AC power grid does all kinds of crazy stuff to the electronics that make the power grid work in the first place. The transformers (both the hyper-critical as well as the transformers that are on the pole outside of your home) are expecting AC current. CME's produce a DC like current. Not compatible. This is the reason why there could be many transformers that are damaged and/or completely destroyed by a direct hit CME. Where do we get parts to the hyper-critical transformers? We don't. The government, in its infinite wisdom, as decided on buying these transformers that are critical to keeping the US power grid operational (there are about 300 of these types) from outside sources.... and it would take 1 to 3 years to order them if they go ka-boom from a direct hit CME. One last thought... even if there is a 3% chance (that number I pulled from the air.... but it is much less than the possibility of a direct CME hit)... that we could be hit by an HEMP and although the chances of having a successful HEMP affect us, we should prepare as if it would. Simply saying, like you did in your presentation, that it "probably" couldn't happen, or "probably" wouldn't happen isn't good enough for me.

Scottie, I think you missed the point of the EMP threat or you're interpreting it differently. It's not the threat of an EMP on all devices that's the problem. It's the impact an EMP could have on just a small handful of critical substations. If those go down, it's lights out. There are several ways they can be destroyed, and the concern is that a local, small EMP device, is apparently one of those ways. That's the EMP threat.
Well, if it's a small handful of critical substations, power can be restored relatively quickly. The only time an EMP would be a real, serious threat is if it caused widespread infrastructure outages. In many places, the grid has redundant connections. But IMO, no matter the case, I think it's wise to have a backup generator - even a small one - to power key equipment. You don't want to be caught without power in the dead of winter for a week. If you never need it, it was still money well spent for peace of mind.

Yes, high-altitude EMP's are massively amplified by the Compton Effect. A very low yield nuclear warhead _could_ easily cripple an entire continent -- as was noticed in the Starfish Prime test in 1962 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish_Prime). The results were far more intense than expected and if it had been detonated in a slightly different orbit it could have taken out a LOT of critical systems and blacked out entire major cities. Especially how dependent everything is on computerisation including, as you point out, vehicles. The other thing I can think of is directed radio waves - sort of like trying to microwave the chip in place. It's possible, but would be rather uncomfortable and cause the chip to heat up. The EMP is a better option since to target the implant directly with microwaves, it would be best to triangulate it: IOW, you'd have 3 radio beams that cross at the point of the implant. The 3 waves would interfere constructively (as opposed to canceling each other out) and effectively target only the implant. That's not easy to do though and would prolly require computer control and targeting, like radiotherapy for cancer. So yeah, EMP is much easier!

They can, although how much depends on things like the frequencies in the EMP, the type of metal, the number and size of gaps in doors/windows, etc.

Sorry son, but _all_ nuclear attacks are a very big deal indeed. And it's "neutron bomb attack" not "EMP attack" because the nuclear weapon is the neutron bomb. Indeed it's the neutrons that kill all the people; the EMP just destroys the matériel that uses electronics. Perhaps 'engage brain' before 'open mouth' next time. And if you don't know what you're talking about, don't make a video documenting that.
