      Hi, Dan! Thank you so much for watching, for the well wishes, and for the blessings. I do love Arkansas and hope to come back again sooner than it took me to come back this last time (dang Covid!). I hope you’re having a nice weekend! 😊

    8:41 Yeah, trekking poles are awesome. You're right that it makes a bigger difference for more rugged trail when you're carrying a big pack and your center of gravity isn't what you are accustomed to, but I even take them on day hikes. They help me keep my pace, they keep my arms and shoulders engaged, and trips that might have been spills are often turned into stumbles.

    • @Womaninthewoods13

      Agreed! I am fully converted now. I stubbornly fought the idea of using hiking poles for the first three years of my hiking “career” but now would not go without them. Thanks for chiming in on this important point. And have a wonderful weekend! 🥰✌🏼

    Making the move to using trekking poles is the best thing I ever did. Just gave me so much more confidence on steep downhills, water crossings, helping with uphills, and most importantly, helping save my knees over multiday hikes. Plus, they're great for helping stake out my tarp in bad weather when trees just aren't in helpful places. Looking forward to the rest of your hike!

    • @Womaninthewoods13

      I am eager to learn how to stake out a tarp with trekking poles. I want to ditch the tent whenever possible. Thank you for watching! 😊🙏🏼✌🏼

    Your hike is starting out pretty well so far I would say. I guess that I didn't realize that you would be hiking in the U.S. this time, or I just forgot. Oh well, welcome back to the U.S. Christina!!!! I hope that you had a great time and will be bringing back many good and positive memories back with you on your return to Canada . I think you are more than ready to do the hike now and nothing is going to stand in your way. Ahhh, the US. TBH I was a bit nervous for you. I thought you were going to be hiking in the minus teens or colder. This looks great. I'll have to pick your brain sometime about border crossing with gear as I've recently realized there are a few parks I could visit 2 1/2 hours south rather than going north. Who'd have thunk. Looking forward to the rest of the videos.

      It is by far the most rugged trail I e ever done. As I say in my videos, from time to time, what you never see in my videos are the hardest parts, because I am not able to film those parts. But I love the challenge, and, yes, the views, the remoteness, the vastness of the forest, the quiet, the peace, the Boston mountains, all of it… I’m so in love with this trail!

  • @garagebrewer

    I kind of treat trekking poles as a "depends on where I'm going" thing. I have had several trips where they saved me from falling and others where they were strapped to the pack the entire time (dead weight). ...and trips where I didn't take them and fell down on slick rocks wished I had them. If you are using them though, it unlocks a new level of lightweight tents.

    • @Womaninthewoods13
      @Womaninthewoods13  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am looking into trekking pole tents as we speak! Any recommendations?

    • @garagebrewer
      @garagebrewer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Womaninthewoods13 I haven't looked in a while but I have an REI Flash Air 2. It's right at 2 pounds for a decent price. Their 1-man (woman?) version is lighter but has a solid wall on one side which blocks ventilation (weird). If I were buying today, I'd give Gossamer Gear "the one" and "the two" a look. Real similar specs for just a little more money. I also kind of like the Sierra Designs High Route 1 (designed by Andrew Skurka) but it's a 1-man and closer to the weight of these other 2-man tents, again similar price. A lot of people like zpacks but be prepared to spend some money. I don't personally like Dyneema as much as everyone else because it packs bulky.
