It's not just on The Sims. I'm a skin content creator for a couple online sites/games. It's honestly really unrealistic and difficult to fix ALL splotching. It's on light skin tones too, it's just too light for you to see it. You can blend and blend all you want, you will still have some texture artifacting. It just looks really bad on the darker skin tones. the shading is a lot more harsh. You could try to blur/smooth it out, but most of the time it just spreads x___x
@@Metzli because they had equality in the Sims 2 all EA cares about is money and all their people helping out with the game are white you see a pattern they have diversity in 2004 before people where striving for diversity because maxis was in handle i need maxis to make their own game at this point
I don't really like how most default replacements look and I prefer the original game style, HOWEVER I watched the entire video because I really like the way you explain things and how much care you put into your game and into your videos. I agree. I like the originals but I am learning a lot from her channel. It has made me remember how much absolute joy I had making families in Sims 2 with many generations and how I ran bakeries all over the place LOL. I have the game I’m literally going to install it today and start playing. I’m so excited and thankful for this channel.
There's also the problem that all of these goes either against the original intent and artstyle, but because there's so many choice with none of that taken into account, you won't have a cohesive and consistent artstyle. And that's what a good remaster mod need, consistency under one vision in line with the original.

Me too! I also took notes about what I defaulted. And I defaulted EVERY SINGLE piece of cloth, every hair, make up, terrain, road and so on. So.. yeah :D But my Sims look amazng right now :P
It kind of _is_ different, though. CC is for modifying the appearance of something in game, or giving more options to pick from in that regard, and mods are specific to gameplay and quality of life improvement type of stuff. Having a separator is important so everyone knows what you're talking about, even if it's technically all mods. @@Anti-HyperLink

Yeah i wish they would do that maybe including multitasking, the emotion system ( working togetjer with the wants and fear sytem) and passing through things more easy. I remember my sims in sims 2 always got stuck when something was in the way.
@@AliceShinya honestly sims 2 has plenty of emotion. The emotion system from sims 4 would ruin that. Sims 2 sims have memories and they will think about negative and positive things that has happened to them. Sims 4 should add the memory system back (and it has NOTHING to do with screenshots/photos/images).
I don’t even use cc on my sims they are just way to pretty and I like the distinct early 2000s vibes it gives off and I wish we had some of those hairs and skins in the sims 3 or 4😅

I think Sims 3 looks Like That bc there's practically no stylization with how the sims look. Both sims 2 and even 4 have distinct styles to them, other than just "aiming for realism and missing it by a longshot"
UGH you make me wanna go back to sims 2 immediately! Sims 2 will always be the best and i'm so glad that so many cc and mod creators are still around and have put so much effort into the sims 2. I quit sims 2 due to not finding any good sims 2 cc/mods (mostly due to me not knowing where to look for good/updated ones) but you have quite LITERALLY changed that for me, so i'm going to go now and lose my life to the sims 2 all over again! 💚
Sims 3 looks too much like an old Dreamworks movie, and Sims 4 has lightning issues on top of a here-or-there artstyle. I like TS4's look, but I agree it's not for everyone.
I love how a lot of the dates on this custom content are from like 2007 but here we are in 2020 still using them and still playing this game. Goes to show that a great game stands strong!
Proof that without modders or CC, the Sims wouldn't be the same game. While Sims 2 and 3 don't need them as much as 4, they can breathe new life into them. Graphics wise, I'm not bothered by the 6th Gen look of the Sims 2 as a lot of my favorite games look substantially dated by modern standards (the original Legend of Zelda is my best example), and my PC can't run games on ultra high definition settings without going "CRASH INBOUND!" So I seeing PS2 era graphics doesn't phase me, ultra realistic graphic (like many modern games) do bug me. If it was possible to get the Sims 2 legally now, I would and go Maxis Match. I like my games to not look like I'm falling into the Uncanny Valley and losing immersion.
@@cutest_pets yep! I pirated mine from the website I mentioned and I have a ton of cc, mods idk really, I feel like Sims 2 doesn't need mods to be fun, so idk if I have any, but it should still work. Just make sure you have a vpn
I love the default replacements for sims 2! Really makes it look like a new and improved game which is really needed compared to the sims 4! I usually just default stuff one at a time and if I find or remember something I wanna replace i just go to the default database instead of using the default dump!
watching these videos have made me restart my sims 2 save because I wanted a fresh start to combine more sims in my generations because once you get like, 100 generations in, it's hard to find good townies and for some reason i never thought to get default replacements
I'm waiting for my sims2 discs to arrive in the mail, I can't wait to do these updates! I normally play sims3 but watching you has convinced me to go back to sims2.

i love the sims 2 style and honestly don't even think it's outdated. i downloaded some mm freckles and makeup to make my sims more realistic but i dont mind textures and skins etc. however great video! thanks for showing people that ts2 can work great for cc lovers even in 2020!
Honestly, I think the sims 2 artstyle looks perfect, it's just the technological aspects that bring the quality down a little bit. I LOVE how big their eyes are, but I would like it them to be a little bit more detailed so they don't look so low poly. I also love the realistic hair that doesn't look like it's made out of plastic (sims 4 talking to you) but retains some shiny qualities, some retouching could make it look even better, (and ofc they should also make more colors)

I totally agree with you, sims 2 sims with all the defaults and ccs are the most beautiful sims, the other games without cc or sometimes with cc don't get it there, and I am a sims 3 girl that likes MM and alpha cc and I still think that no game can compete with the way your sims look.
Your post on your website for Sims 2 stuff has been a godsend!! I've been slowly going through and installing new default replacements, adding the pretty skies, installing the Clean UI, and finding all the mods. Some of this didn't even exist during the Sims 2 heydays, so I feel like I just installed a new game instead of revisiting an old one. Thank you for pointing the way 🥰

It has been years since I went through a massive default replacement spree. It wasn't half so organized as now and stuff was so hard to find. Now there is so much new stuff and it is all so much more pulled together. Thanks for going through this with us. Looks like it is time for me to update some defaults!
@@PleasantSims I've been using those eyes since they came out, I used the original Sahara eyes at first, they were non default. i play a mostly maxis match game and even default replace the games (base game, eps and Sps) objects using the maxis defaults by Shastakiss over on tumblr (her maxis defaults are on her Sims2Artists account which is linked on her simblr)
For anyone looking for a good Maxis Match default skin I highly recommend the Feathers skinblend plus the geneticized and townified add-ons WINK WINK (back when I was creating custom content this was my crowning achievement 😂) Always found the Honey noses a bit weird to my tastes but I've had the Feathers skins in my game for ages. This is a great comprehensive guide Cindy! Super helpful for anyone who's new to the game and even people like me who haven't been on top of the Sims community in a few years.
It's so funny. I decided I wanted to play the Sims 2 again after many years, but I wanted a modded/custom content game. It's been 3 weeks, and I am still not ready to play yet. These videos help me a lot though, so thank you!

Omg same. They were scaring me out. I hated how ugly and weird they were looking...I think at that time I didn't totally enjoyed Sims 2 because of that. Now, I appreciate it way way more. Plus with the CC we're able to change their scary faces...
i've used the same default skin and eyes for years !! i remember like last year or so on discord when i mentioned them you said lilith's honey is too smooth for your liking LOL you were setting up your realistic era haha
even though I have defaults for everything I still watch Cindy because she's awesome and explains everything so well. I also use honey honey skin blend and the new hair system. I have tried so many different default skins both maxis and semi-realistic, but this one is my absolute favorite! Highly recommend if you want to stick to the maxis match.
I use your defaults guide on your website a lot! The spreadsheet is super useful. My advice to anyone wanting to do this is READ!! A lot of replacements for clothing replace other age groups. The spreadsheet Cindy provides is great because you can go mark other age groups as needed. It's invaluable. Thank you so much for all of your hard work Cindy!
My first sims game was Sims 4 and I only started playing like a year ago. I have really fond (and oddly specific) memories of watching my best friend play TS2 and TS3 when I would go over to her house and as much as I’ve wanted to play them since I got into the franchise, I’m completely reliant on CC and for some reason I assumed that CC for older games wouldn’t be able to function. It’s amazing to have the reassurance that you _can_ still do a whole graphic overhaul on these games
As someone who knows all this stuff, this is such a cute video! So simple and easy to understand. To be honest, I switch out my defaults very often... still don't know how I want my vampires to look! I favor a Maxis-Match look, though, with that nice smoothness most new CC has.
OMG that is just what I needed. I got my Sims 2 game installed and am already busy installing mods and stuff and this was always in my mind. Thanks Cindy for uploading this.
Sims 4 doesn't need the "Alpha" graphics. Sims 2, even back then I felt needed a little oomph, so Alpha works wonderfully in Sims 2 Land. And yes, those dead, Sims 2 default eyes always skeeved me out. I stayed up till 3 a.m. on school nights downloading countless Sims 2 Alpha CC's. In Sims 4, I stick to "Clay", and always Maxis Match. Sims 4 graphics are perfect as is, but I will be back on that verdict in 15 more years. :P The Sims 2 graphics and gameplay has aged very well though. It's my favorite Sims game, so I'm grateful for that.
I love how you explain everything so thoroughly, it makes your videos very easy to follow, as someone who just started playing not too long ago your videos help me a lot. I do wonder why my sims don't look as well as yours do though I don't know if I'm not installing something right or its something else.
Btw as we’re in 2022, the 2000’s fashion hair and makeup, even the 70’s and 80’s is back and trending. I can basically dress up as Milcom In The Middle or how I dressed up as a 14 year old back in 2004 when I played this game. The 90’s has been in fashion since 2012/2013. Last year the 70’s was back in season.
I know, I'm late to the game with these. But I've been watchin' you simmers play and been so envious of how "good" your sims look. But I always thought, I could NEVER get my game to look that good. But today, I tried it. I installed the skins, the default make up, the eyes, and freckles (it was the freckles that broke me, I NEEDED them!!!) And HOLY MOLEY CINNAMON ROLLY!!! I love the sims 2 but i find so much of the cc available is heavily influenced by sims 4 tastes, so i appreciate that you've given some alternatives to that style! If anyone can point me in the direction of cc that feels more nostalgic/classic sims 2 style though its be greatly appreciated. I mostly play the game for the nostalgia (the superior gameplay helps though lol) and don't really wat to make he game look like it came out this week per see, just fresh
I almost always used Yumedusts eyes, they are so beautiful! I wish there was a good conversion of those for sims 4.. Love your videos and they’re making me nostalgic for sims 2.
I have been kinda missing the Sims 2 more and more. These mods and such could really help me to go back to it. Default replacements can take a lot of time but is so worth it I think I had to re download everyting at least 3 times to understand how to keep it organized and make it work. everything for the sims 2 :)
Hi Cindy! Would you consider sharing your folder with custom downloads for us to use, so we can just replace everything with the things you chose? I know it took you a long time to complete and it would be understandable if you wouldn't like to do that, but I think many of us would appreciate it :)
This is so useful!! I have an old sims 2 backup with 7gb of downloads, mostly clothing and forniture, and the only default replacement that i use are skintones and eyes, and it’s funny how when you have sims with a lot of CC, you meet townies and think they are all so ugly compared with yours, so i end up just having relationships with other sims with CC i creste. This would make townies look nicer, creating more possibilities for relationships with other sims in the neighborhood

Thanks Maya! Glad to help! When you download the replacements, just put them in your Documents > EA Games > Sims 2 > Downloads folder. (Not sure if that's what you meant, so sorry if you already know that). I find it just takes time and doing a little bit every day makes it less overwhelming - especially with clothing and hair. :)

i just finished default replacing every single hair in the game using this video's tips and even though it was excruciatingly frustrating, it was so worth it in the end. for anyone else out there still replacing, just know it gets easier once you start to recognize cc creators that use your hair system and it goes faster the more experience you have!
Ahhh I just found this channel and realized I used your website when I changed up my hair defaults a few weeks back! THANK YOU SO MUCH for that default list! I was using the peppermint & ginger defaults but wasn’t really feeling them and I had no idea there were other sets of fully replaced hair. Also you just reminded me I need wrinkles for my elders!

IKR... TS4’s world is so cartoony and plastic. With realistic meshes in Sims 2, it fits much better.

If it was possible to get the Sims 2 legally now, I would and go Maxis Match. I like my games to not look like I'm falling into the Uncanny Valley and losing immersion.

@@cutest_pets yep! I pirated mine from the website I mentioned and I have a ton of cc, mods idk really, I feel like Sims 2 doesn't need mods to be fun, so idk if I have any, but it should still work. Just make sure you have a vpn
I love the default replacements for sims 2! Really makes it look like a new and improved game which is really needed compared to the sims 4! I usually just default stuff one at a time and if I find or remember something I wanna replace i just go to the default database instead of using the default dump!

watching these videos have made me restart my sims 2 save because I wanted a fresh start to combine more sims in my generations because once you get like, 100 generations in, it's hard to find good townies and for some reason i never thought to get default replacements
It's always nice to start with defaults in a new start! I think it's fun to see how all the Sims look after putting in the defaults!

i love the sims 2 style and honestly don't even think it's outdated. i downloaded some mm freckles and makeup to make my sims more realistic but i dont mind textures and skins etc. however great video! thanks for showing people that ts2 can work great for cc lovers even in 2020!
Honestly, I think the sims 2 artstyle looks perfect, it's just the technological aspects that bring the quality down a little bit. I LOVE how big their eyes are, but I would like it them to be a little bit more detailed so they don't look so low poly. I also love the realistic hair that doesn't look like it's made out of plastic (sims 4 talking to you) but retains some shiny qualities, some retouching could make it look even better, (and ofc they should also make more colors)

I totally agree with you, sims 2 sims with all the defaults and ccs are the most beautiful sims, the other games without cc or sometimes with cc don't get it there, and I am a sims 3 girl that likes MM and alpha cc and I still think that no game can compete with the way your sims look.
Your post on your website for Sims 2 stuff has been a godsend!! I've been slowly going through and installing new default replacements, adding the pretty skies, installing the Clean UI, and finding all the mods.
Some of this didn't even exist during the Sims 2 heydays, so I feel like I just installed a new game instead of revisiting an old one. Thank you for pointing the way 🥰

It has been years since I went through a massive default replacement spree. It wasn't half so organized as now and stuff was so hard to find. Now there is so much new stuff and it is all so much more pulled together. Thanks for going through this with us. Looks like it is time for me to update some defaults!
we use the same skin, i also use the honey freckles.... i use phobia's easy/lucky/free sahara eyes, i use peppermint & ginger's hair defaults

@@PleasantSims I've been using those eyes since they came out, I used the original Sahara eyes at first, they were non default. i play a mostly maxis match game and even default replace the games (base game, eps and Sps) objects using the maxis defaults by Shastakiss over on tumblr (her maxis defaults are on her Sims2Artists account which is linked on her simblr)
And I recomend yall to have a backup of your Downloads folder somewhere because doing it all again is a pain! XD
For anyone looking for a good Maxis Match default skin I highly recommend the Feathers skinblend plus the geneticized and townified add-ons WINK WINK (back when I was creating custom content this was my crowning achievement 😂) Always found the Honey noses a bit weird to my tastes but I've had the Feathers skins in my game for ages.
This is a great comprehensive guide Cindy! Super helpful for anyone who's new to the game and even people like me who haven't been on top of the Sims community in a few years.
You can say what you want but with mods, CC and default replacements Sims 2 aged just great.

Omg same. They were scaring me out. I hated how ugly and weird they were looking...I think at that time I didn't totally enjoyed Sims 2 because of that. Now, I appreciate it way way more. Plus with the CC we're able to change their scary faces...

even though I have defaults for everything I still watch Cindy because she's awesome and explains everything so well. I also use honey honey skin blend and the new hair system. I have tried so many different default skins both maxis and semi-realistic, but this one is my absolute favorite! Highly recommend if you want to stick to the maxis match.
I use your defaults guide on your website a lot! The spreadsheet is super useful. My advice to anyone wanting to do this is READ!! A lot of replacements for clothing replace other age groups. The spreadsheet Cindy provides is great because you can go mark other age groups as needed. It's invaluable. Thank you so much for all of your hard work Cindy!

My first sims game was Sims 4 and I only started playing like a year ago. I have really fond (and oddly specific) memories of watching my best friend play TS2 and TS3 when I would go over to her house and as much as I’ve wanted to play them since I got into the franchise, I’m completely reliant on CC and for some reason I assumed that CC for older games wouldn’t be able to function. It’s amazing to have the reassurance that you _can_ still do a whole graphic overhaul on these games
As someone who knows all this stuff, this is such a cute video! So simple and easy to understand. To be honest, I switch out my defaults very often... still don't know how I want my vampires to look! I favor a Maxis-Match look, though, with that nice smoothness most new CC has.

Sims 4 doesn't need the "Alpha" graphics. Sims 2, even back then I felt needed a little oomph, so Alpha works wonderfully in Sims 2 Land. And yes, those dead, Sims 2 default eyes always skeeved me out. I stayed up till 3 a.m. on school nights downloading countless Sims 2 Alpha CC's. In Sims 4, I stick to "Clay", and always Maxis Match. Sims 4 graphics are perfect as is, but I will be back on that verdict in 15 more years. :P
The Sims 2 graphics and gameplay has aged very well though. It's my favorite Sims game, so I'm grateful for that.
I love how you explain everything so thoroughly, it makes your videos very easy to follow, as someone who just started playing not too long ago your videos help me a lot. I do wonder why my sims don't look as well as yours do though I don't know if I'm not installing something right or its something else.
Btw as we’re in 2022, the 2000’s fashion hair and makeup, even the 70’s and 80’s is back and trending. I can basically dress up as Milcom In The Middle or how I dressed up as a 14 year old back in 2004 when I played this game. The 90’s has been in fashion since 2012/2013. Last year the 70’s was back in season.
I know, I'm late to the game with these. But I've been watchin' you simmers play and been so envious of how "good" your sims look. But I always thought, I could NEVER get my game to look that good. But today, I tried it. I installed the skins, the default make up, the eyes, and freckles (it was the freckles that broke me, I NEEDED them!!!) And HOLY MOLEY CINNAMON ROLLY!!! I love the sims 2 but i find so much of the cc available is heavily influenced by sims 4 tastes, so i appreciate that you've given some alternatives to that style! If anyone can point me in the direction of cc that feels more nostalgic/classic sims 2 style though its be greatly appreciated. I mostly play the game for the nostalgia (the superior gameplay helps though lol) and don't really wat to make he game look like it came out this week per see, just fresh
I almost always used Yumedusts eyes, they are so beautiful! I wish there was a good conversion of those for sims 4.. Love your videos and they’re making me nostalgic for sims 2.

Default replacements can take a lot of time but is so worth it I think I had to re download everyting at least 3 times to understand how to keep it organized and make it work. everything for the sims 2 :)

This is so useful!! I have an old sims 2 backup with 7gb of downloads, mostly clothing and forniture, and the only default replacement that i use are skintones and eyes, and it’s funny how when you have sims with a lot of CC, you meet townies and think they are all so ugly compared with yours, so i end up just having relationships with other sims with CC i creste. This would make townies look nicer, creating more possibilities for relationships with other sims in the neighborhood

Thanks Maya! Glad to help! When you download the replacements, just put them in your Documents > EA Games > Sims 2 > Downloads folder. (Not sure if that's what you meant, so sorry if you already know that). I find it just takes time and doing a little bit every day makes it less overwhelming - especially with clothing and hair. :)

it's not that hard like I thought, though I don't remember the replacements I already download, my downloads folder is a little messy XDDD

i just finished default replacing every single hair in the game using this video's tips and even though it was excruciatingly frustrating, it was so worth it in the end. for anyone else out there still replacing, just know it gets easier once you start to recognize cc creators that use your hair system and it goes faster the more experience you have!
Ahhh I just found this channel and realized I used your website when I changed up my hair defaults a few weeks back! THANK YOU SO MUCH for that default list! I was using the peppermint & ginger defaults but wasn’t really feeling them and I had no idea there were other sets of fully replaced hair. Also you just reminded me I need wrinkles for my elders!
