- "How Long" is a song by the British group Ace featuring Paul Carrack. It was released in March 1975 from the band's 1974 album Five-A-Side.
It reached #3 on the US and Canadian charts, #1 on the US Cash Box Top 100, and #20 on the UK Singles Chart.
Although widely interpreted as being about adultery, the song was in fact composed by lead singer Paul Carrack upon discovering that bassist Terry Comer had been secretly working with the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. Comer returned to Ace in time to play on the song.
The guitar solo is by Alan "Bam" King. - เพลง
Great song. Paul Carrack is so underrated!
Almost 50yrs that’s How Long. I remembered it like yesterday.
Me too, Brother 🙂
Me three lol Reminds me of my first girlfriend...
This song more than any other from that era, reminds me of the 1970's. What a great, great time to grow up.
Yeah !
45 years ago it was 1975. This was my favorite 1975 hit. Yes, even though it hit the top 5 on the US Billboard charts at a very respectable No. 3 in June, 1975, I thought it should've been a No. 1 hit. It sold about 3 million copies, and it was probably 1975's best one-hit wonder.
Ace = one hit but not a wonder. Paul Carrack moves from project to project and band to band. He's responsible for Squeeze's "Tempted"
@@johnconway9882 Paul also sang lead on the former #1 song, The Living Years by Mike & The Mechanics.
Oh what a lonely boy - that's a song your comment triggered- thank iou!I can hear the piano music in me - triumph
@@johnconway9882 He wrote Tempted in 1977.
I'm inclined to agree with you, although by that time frame I was heavily into Led Zeppelin and FM album rock. Be that as it was, "How Long" first broke into the Top 5 the week of May 31, 1975. The #1 slot belonged to Freddy Fender's "Before the Next Teardrop Falls", and the #2 position was held by John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy". The #5 position, btw, had America's "Sister Golden Hair" in place.
The following week (June 7, 1975) moved Denver's tune to #1, and America's tune to #2, while "How Long" still held the #3 slot.
"How Long" fell out of the Top 5 after that.
Being a teen I regularly listened to top 40 hits by Casey Kasem. How long by Ace is one of those moments when you realise Casey was probably the reason I would have heard this song. I stll remember it from ' back in the days'.
American Top 40,
Every Saturday A.M. 4~8
I heard it at 17. I am Korean..
One of 70's best.
Paul Carrack is a legend, love him. ✌️☺️
Love this tune, takes me back to the Good Ole days.
It reminds me of my arrival by car at night in Amsterdam 1976 Fantastic - Love this great song. - Thanx for loading this !
Fantastic bass!!!
I was 6 when this song aired. Loved it ever since. Thanks, for this crisp upload of a timeless piece of music! 🎶 🎵
@Kevin H You're welcome.
I'm 23 & I love this song 🥰
Straight classic, I listen to this all of the time!
Wow 👌.
One Almighty Standout Classic From These Amazing Artists.
Great Vocals Combined With Brilliant Musicality.
Remember This Like It Was Only Yesterday.
Cheers 🍻 👏 ✌️ 🥂 For This Majestic Timeless Memory.
🎉🎉❤❤❤.
One of my all-time favorite gems, not merely from my favorite year, 1975!
Definitely one of my favorite songs from the '70s of all time and one of my favorite songs of all time love that guy's voice man the guy from Mike and the mechanics this song makes you want to go back and wish you could've lived in the 1970s and get out of this 2022 21st century bullshit
If their was a Time Machine I'd go back to the 1970's.
My God, I haven´t heard this song, well, since the 70´s, and this still sounds so great. A wonderful flashback. At that time recording music on the radio to a cassette. I still have those cassettes today, back from 1973, and they are still playing. Oh how many great memories from my childhood!!
when I think of the 70s,they were the best years of my life!!I'd give anything to relive that era!!
Still going on in 2020! 😎🎶✌🏻❤️
And 2023!
Good Times ...20 years old and Headed Overseas ....
How Long, Love Will Find A Way(Pablo Cruise), Love Will Keep Us Together, I'm Not In Love, etc. I could listen to that mid-70s mellow all day long!
Saw ACE at the Hollywood Bowl in 1975 with YES. Saw Hall & Oats there last night with Sqeeze.
I have hundreds of songs in mp3 (I'm 56), and this one just popped in my head like "hey, I remember that song and it's not in my collection". Now I'll get it.
From 74/75 listened to it every day on our radio that sat on the kitchen counter nostalgic great memories 🎶🎶🎤💖 Thank you Clay..
I was 9 years old when this came out and as I recall it was the first 45 single I ever bought. Fantastic record...we were so spoiled back then with all these great tunes
Maybe 30 years since last time I heard it. They put it a lot on KCLD in my senior year as a foreign exchange student in central Minnesota back in 1977. Time has gone so fast!
'70s Greatness!
that's such a beautiful distorted leslie sounding solo at 1:34. it says so much: it's so exciting, and takes the listener many places in a very short period of time, yet fits the song perfectly.
I also love the 🎸 solo this song has!
Mahalo Nui Loa Clay Culver for another great song: ACE "HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON"
Still listening to this song thanks guys how long do we gave to wear mask lol
Best radio hit of the 1970's!
No doubt.
70's super hit!
Great classic
I am such a sucker for this kind of music
Me too
Ditto !!
PERFECT SONG
WHAT WAS THAT SOUND IS GONE FOREVER IT LIVES ON
Still listening to this song thanks guys where ever you are right
A 1960 baby who, at 15 in 1975 knew a classic when I heard it then. From a handful of non-number 1's that year which helped define the year and decade.
1976 baby here! Love this song! 🙂
How long has this been going on?
How long has this been going on?
Well, if friends with their fancy persuasion
Don't admit that it's part of a scheme
Then I can't help but have my suspicions
'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem
And you said you was never intending
To break up our scene in this way
But there ain't any use in pretending
It could happen to us any day
How long has this been going on?

Definitely one o f my favorites of the '70's - which decade of music is my favorite.
I think this is the first TH-cam song that I've noticed an actual sound stage, that's usually only CD's, HQ streaming...etc. Nicely done Clay!
Great track
2022 música escolhida como toque do meu celular 📱 ✅🇧🇷😁🎶
It took the guitar player in Ace 35 years to figure out that the song was about him!
Yep. 1st Diss Song I can remember.
It was the Bass player (Terry Comer) rather than the Guitarist.
70s 🎵🎸💎😎👌
I remember being around 10 hearing this for the first time well at the least the first time I can remember hearing it I've loved it ever since and Clay Culver man you got some great music on your channel very impressed
@Jose Delgado Thank you.
@@clayculver2460 you are very welcome
A decade defining tune.
After working with Ace, Paul Carrack would have a solo career in the 1980s, during that time, he was a member of Squeeze, a band which he sang a few songs for, which charted worldwide, he later joined Mike Rutherford (formerly of Genesis) in his band, Mike & The Mechanics.
Wow interesting thanks Justin for the little fact.
He was also in Squeeze. Tempted is an 80s (1981) classic
This was a one hit wonder for the band Ace, BUT NOT for the lead singer Paul Carrack of Ace. Paul Carrack was the lead singer of the band Squeeze, and they had a one hit wonder called "Tempted" in 1981. It was the only hit Squeeze had. Paul Carrack has not one, but two big hits tied to his name, "How Long" and "Tempted." As of 2017, he was still out touring and performing both songs.
@scottbailey1560 "Don't Shed a Tear" as a solo artist was also a big hit for Carrack and of course, "The Living Years" with Mike + The Mechanics is his biggest hit of all.
love it
Still like this one lol thank guys where ever you are be safe
beautiful song clay tanks bro (Y)
How Long is too long! I FOUND The ♥️💋💖💘💌🔥💯 of my LIFE!! Thank U

Happy Birthday Alan King born on September 18, 1945. He is an English guitarist and singer, best known for his time with the British 1960s pop group The Action and the 1970s rock band Ace. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_King_(guitarist)
Best version. Superior to the disco cut by Lipps Inc., 1980. Big radio fave. Rock & cw blend. Very danceable too. Better tempo. Vicious guitar riff. Great effort. Memorable. Thanks, Ace & crew. Vive les pop rock & retro freaks ....
1975 die schönste zeit meines lebens.lange haare keine sorgen das leben war einfach schön!!!!!!!!!!
Best song about calling out a sneaky band member. Rod Stewart's cover added the adultery aspect.
😊🎶💕🎵Great song! Thank you Clay❤️
You're welcome, Patricia! 😊
Very nice song indeed. Very talented band indeed.
Sound quality 👍❤
Thank you to FB for reminding me of this one❤❤❤

great Diss track. This song is about the Guitar Player moonlighting with other bands.
Love this.. I can't help but think that this probably somehow inspired Edwyn Collins for his work on A Girl Like You.
Som lindo!!!
Can't believe this was the highest quality recording of this I could find on TH-cam. Instruments are fine, but the constant background hiss... May have to commission a rip of this.
@Lord Manatee I know and it came direct from the recording. I may try to re-do this one at some point and see if I can get better quality. It's been drastically improving the last two years.
@@clayculver2460 alright, good on you man, great song, weird that their most popular isn't better represented
Quit complaining. It sounds fine.

Carrack’s first hit in his long career. A piece of trivia…..it was not written about a cheating girl. It was written about his bass player, who he found out had been playing with another band behind his back!
cheating BASS PLAYER ! WORSE
😛
Cheating on Paul Carrack's own band!
When you hear him sing this song it makes you feel good when you hear him sing in The Living Years with Mike and the mechanics it'll make you cry man

To simple
No it's about Infedelity.
Think more obtuse about my last comment
it’s kinda funny that this song is about the bassist but he plays the most boring basslines ever
