Jon was a decent swordsman to begin with, but logically he would be a better swordsman by the time of getting to the battle of the bastards. You can always be a great swordsman in training, but completely fail in an actual life or death fight. The more experience that Jon gets in an actual battle, the better he becomes. Nah. He's not SUPPOSED to be especialy good. Nobody ever even thought he was until Ramsay had that one line. Even if Ramsay was even telling the truth, why would anyone in the North be saying ANYTHING about Jon as a swordsman? What would they even know about it? This crap came out of nowhere. In fact there's plenty of shots where if you really look at it, when he's more in the background of a scene, it's actually rather poor looking CGI, like he barely looks human. I believe it was also a mixture with Thrones. I remember hearing them talk about how difficult the logistics were of matching behavior of a dog on an LA soundstage with actor blocking somewhere in Europe at the same time. That that was the detriment just as much as CGI costs were.

I agree that Jon and Nee, we're never great fighters like Selmy or Jaime. I think what makes them formidable is their discipline. When a choice has been made by a Stark it's shear iron will that makes it happen.
On that direwolf patting, I think that's forced perspective rather than CGI; Ghost is in the foreground (looking not at all in Jon's direction) while background Snow pats thin air.
Season 4 is truly the season of the Lannisters. In the first 2 episodes, it's the best time for them. They have almost every single corner of Westeros under their control, so they're at the peak of their power this time around, even when Joffery dies it does very little to ruin their hold on the world.
The parallel between Tommen looking at Margery and Cersei looking at Jaime though!! And it looks like Margery/Jaime were standing in the same spot! Say what you will about the plot but the nuanced cinematography of this show (minus the episode that shall not be named) was FANTASTIC

The Jon Arryn murder flew completely over my sisters head. I had only read the first book and part of the second at that point, she only watched the show. It was a bombshell for me but she hardly blinked. Can't blame her or anyone for missing it, really. I just came off the first book, Jon Arryn was fresh in my mind. I don't think he was mentioned much beyond season 1.

Fun fact: the reason why Jon WOULDN'T be able to give Ghost a hug is because they used forced perspective in that shot. Ghost is actually closer to the camera than Jon to give the impression that Ghost is a lot bigger than he is. Works out fairly well considering people don't really point it out, you can only really tell when you know about it
When Tywin and Cersei met, they mentioned fortnight (2 weeks) like three times in the scene. And fortnite is a very popular video game played by millennials and young kids. So he’s saying he thought millennials like fortnites but that’s not the case because Cersei kept saying it in the scene.

The Jon Arryn murder flew completely over my sisters head. I had only read the first book and part of the second at that point, she only watched the show. It was a bombshell for me but she hardly blinked. Can't blame her or anyone for missing it, really. I just came off the first book, Jon Arryn was fresh in my mind. I don't think he was mentioned much beyond season 1.

i liked how you brought up ned and rob not being good at arms and jon being brought up in situations where he had to learn fast BUT somehow as you said rob and ned... i was thinking you were going somewhere else, like rhaegar was supposed to be this awesome swordfighter... maybe also some foreshadowing if you think about it? Some skills run in families... See house dayne for example

Fun fact: the reason why Jon WOULDN'T be able to give Ghost a hug is because they used forced perspective in that shot. Ghost is actually closer to the camera than Jon to give the impression that Ghost is a lot bigger than he is. Works out fairly well considering people don't really point it out, you can only really tell when you know about it

When Tywin and Cersei met, they mentioned fortnight (2 weeks) like three times in the scene. And fortnite is a very popular video game played by millennials and young kids. So he’s saying he thought millennials like fortnites but that’s not the case because Cersei kept saying it in the scene.
Jojen's hand on fire might have been forshadowing of his death (he was burned by a fireball after being stabbed).

I mean armor really is key, I love how Martin explores it, victarion raids ships in full plate with a bigass axe, against dudes in leather, he can take their hits from all sides and just cut them down one by one
Same with Barristan when he's taking down Hizdar, it's really similar to jorahs fight, the unarmored essosi is all butthurt
But he says its part of swordfighting, you tank the hit to get an opening

That scene and when Jon fought at Watchers on the Wall and Hardhome, you could see he was a badasss swordsman, not just an average on. and he became a super-warrior at BOB. But this is probably due to the fact that Kit Harrington did Pompei!
lol I kid you not, the show makers said that when he went to film that, Hollywood being Hollywood, they trained him like a mother fucker in battle and sword fight. When he return to Thrones, they fell on their asses of how good had gotten.

Yeah I loved Jon and Ghost's reunion! I think I prefer Jon to Robb too but it's a shame we never got to see more Robb and Grey wind scenes as they were really close in the books (until the wedding) :(
