  • Drove my 04 Liberty in the snow yesterday, and this morning ti does not start.
This is how I went about trouble shooting the problem, found the issue and instead of spending $50 to replace the part I bypassed it.
Apparently it's a common problem with Jeeps and relatively quick and easy fix.

Turn the key on and jump power to fuse 28 (starter relay fuse). It’ll start right up.

Thanks for the vid. My daughter has a 2002 Liberty that's not starting with the bypass so we probably have the same issue as you.

My issue resulted from braking the steering wheel lock on purpose

Actuator pin is cheap as dirt, you've lost your mind lol

You have to back feed the PCM with 12vdc at the relay socket with the key in the run position ,
The PCM needs to see a Start signal from the ignition switch.
Jump the relay socket to get the starter motor turning and at the same time I use a power probe to send power back down the relay coil terminal that comes from the Ignition Switch, Starts every time..

You said if the radio turns off when you try to start it, that’s a good sign. What if it doesn’t? I just bought a 2003 Liberty from a dealer. It was a trade in that they couldn’t get started after they made the deal. They sold as is. I replaced the battery. Didn’t know if I should replace the starter. They did have speakers or something hooked up straight to the battery that when they traded in they just cut the speaker cables and left it.

There is a relay that cuts power to all accessories and re-directs it to the starter when starting so that the starter gets the maximum cranking amps from the battery. When radio and AC turns off when the key is in start position that means that relay is working and one less electrical issue to trace.
Liberties are relatively simple to work on, take it to a trusty mechanic and they should be able to get it started relatively quick. Sounds like a fuse or a relay is busted in yours, try bypassing the starter relay like I did and see if the starter turns.

2007 is the newer generation, I know nothing about them. This video was made for entertainment purposes, I couldn't tell you where to start to diagnose. Good luck.

I could use some help plz. I have a 2006 jeep liberty that has left me at a few places because it won't start. Once I wait a few hours it will start. Seams to start when its cold but once its warmed up and I shut the engine off it won't start. Battery is new, alternator is good, and starter is good, fuse and relay for starter are good. How do I know if it's the ignition switch actuator pin. Do I have to take it off to see if the switch is broken to find out ? Plz help

Is that the original engine with 400,000 miles on it ?

Yeah, bought it from a second owner that used it to commute some 3 hours each way to work 5 days a week. Gave me a huge binder of all the work he had done and he told me it's an original motor. Did not realize that a 3.7 can make it over 200k miles let alone 400k

      For most applications yes.
