The Gathering | 200 Wild Elephants | World's Only Twin Baby Elephants! 🇱🇰

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ต.ค. 2020
  • It was our first time seeing hundreds of Elephants in the Wild! Even more amazing is that we saw the only set of twin baby Elephants in the world! It's definitely the one of most special wildlife experiences in the world, partly because of the large number of babies. During the dry season from July to early November, several hundred elephants gather first in the Minneriya National Park and then move to Kaudulla National Park in Sri Lanka.

How many elephants did you count in this video? Who wants to visit The Gathering after seeing this?

Me me me but I’m torn between visiting them and leaving them there undisturbed. On my last visit to Srilanka we didn’t see a single elephant at yala national park but saw one just outside the park.(of course we were unlucky to see a leopard too which is a rare sighting)

European colonist decimated the elephant populace in the thousands in Ceylon (SL). The mighty tuskers were the trophy target. The ramifications of the brutal onslaught reflects today, where tuskers are extremely rare. The gene pool of the strongest and largest has been dramatically undermined. Big bulls
are a rare cite to behold.

      @ladiswashharoom1052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Englishmen left the country more than 70 years ago , since then to this day, the local savages continues to hunt the tuskers for ivory , it is because of the local hunters that you don't see any tusker in the wild today not because of the Englishmen , such a shame for so called a Buddhist Country !!

It is a matriarchal society and males are chased away once they reached puberty.
This is another beauty of the Creation to avoid inbreeding and weakening Gene pool in the herd.
Twins are a rarity and so are the dwarfed one found in the Yala National Park.
Sometimes they form a unique pack of three females consists of Grand Mother, Mother & the Granddaughter, another rarity once seen in Wasgamuwa National Park and that is where you will find the biggest & the tallest Elephants in Sri Lanka. Some are almost 6 meters tall.
By the way, do you know how they measure the height of wild ones?
You will not believe it but it is two times the circumference of their front foot will measure up to their neck.

Great video as always Jonny.Incredible amount of elephants at one place!Same time its a great example of how poachers have removed Alfa males with tusks over the years, and now its new generations through tusksless gene pool, bit of a shame, but may be that's the way forward for the survival of these animals, otherwise they'll be hunt for extinction. Its rare in general to have big male Asian elephant with with full grown tusks compare to African elephants, but poaching have made good strong gene tuskers to extinction.😔

Great Vlog. Johnny, some time ago you showed Siam View in Arugam Bay. I know the owner, Manfred (German Origin), he is currently having legal problems as some is trying to grab his land which he bought and paid for some time during 1990s. It may be a good idea if you could vlog this to highlight the legal system in Sri Lanka where court cases get dragged on and on costing a fortune in legal fees.

I suggest that the Sri Lankan president consider giving you both Permanent Residence sothat you two can visit Sri Lanka often & even do more to give more publicity to Sri Lankan tourism. I have never seen any one doing so much to promote tourism of any country. In fact the Sri Lankan government tourism authorities must be guilty for not doing any thing any where close to what you 2 are doing tirelessly. I have never seen so much, any where, about Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is really a wonderful place full of nature & wonderful people. May God bless both of you & wonderful Sri Lanka. I'm just waiting for the right time to visit Sri Lanka again & spend a long time just doing nothing & enjoying the country. One would say that you must try it to taste it but I have seen so much from your beautiful videos.

Hi Tony, if you know the President, tell him we'd love to have permanent residency here. =) But actually as for Sri Lankan Tourism Bureau, they actually took us to Jaffna and are sponsoring the next 6 videos to take us to places we weren't originally going to visit! So they're doing a great job!

For our simple pleasure, we disturb these innocent pachyderms! We have already invaded most of their habitats. From British time on, how many wild elephants have been murdered! Thousands! Now we should respect them and leave them to live their on. Anyway, this is better than imprisoning them in cages in so called Zoos! Not only human rights, but animal rights too should be respected!

If it wasn't for the tourism money going to the entrance of these areas, they would no longer exist. Eco-tourism like this keeps these areas protected and the Elephants safe. It's 1,0000,000x better than having them in zoos or gone completely like in other countries.

@Md Pannawansa World belongs to every animal bro, including humans. Without the humans there won't be a reservoir here and thus the world's biggest elephant gathering as well. Every animal feels threatened when they see some other kind of animal. However if we don't harm them they will start to feel relaxed just like the way they live with other type of animals.

@@JohnnyFD Yes, the authorities have to invest a lot and much effort to keep the count of elephants growing. Every year, 100s (361 in 2019) of elephants are killed by human in Sri Lanka. Eco-tourism is a good compromise.

If it wasn't from the income from park entrance and tourists, these protected areas would not exist.
