Knuckles Mountain Range | Hiking in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

  • We went to the Knuckles Mountain Range in central Sri Lanka near both Matale and Kandy. First we climbed the Mini World's End located towards the south of the mountains. It's a dramatic 1,192-metre cliff that offers sweeping views of the mountains. The trail to Mini World’s End is one of the two trails in the mountain range. It begins at the Knuckles Conservation Centre (KCC) and is approximately 1.5 kilometres in length. A permit is required but wasn't expensive. On a cloud-free day, you can make out several villages and settlements dotted below in the valleys. There aren’t any barriers at Mini World’s End, so mind your footing at all times.
Afterwards we did a second hike in one of the local villages through the tea plantations. Check it out and let us know if you preferred the Knuckles Mountain Range Hikes or Horton Planes.

Why Sri Lanka is a Paradise ??
Simply because you will get everything in very short amount of time. Just few hours rides to Gorgeous Beaches to Cold weather mountainside ,wild life and everything. You won't see any desserts or volcanoes simply because its a paradise😍

You're doing a great job Johnny showing the whole world the unexplored country side & the magical greenery thanks to your guide too. I still haven't seen the small fish that you find in local streams with a small white dot one will find hundreds of them ( thihaya ) the cows sometime back villagers used them as caravans to transport their vegetables & the stock back & forth. If you have time & drive along Kandy through Victoria & Randenigala you may see a caravan. Another scenic drive. Watching in 🇨🇦🍁 stay safe.

In this mountain range, I heard there are several European Buddhist ascetics practicing meditation in caves! If you had gone to visit one of them, you would have been marveled and perhaps your world view would have been changed! These monks, I heard are very educated people and have seen the impermanent nature of the things!
I propose you to see the possibility to meditate in a centre for at least several days. You may be surprised to know that words ‘meditation’ and ‘medicine’ are from the same language root! It means meditation is also a therapy!

Gald that you could visit Knuckles MR. The sigiriya like large mountain you saw is Manigala and is a part of Knuckles range. Knuckles forest reserve spreads around a very large area and there are 30+ mountain peaks and 100s of hiking trails. Knuckles forest reserve can be entered from many areas including via Matale (where you went), via Kandy through Wattegama, via Theldeniya and also via Hunnasgiriya. Local travel enthusiasts like us usually travel to these remote place. But only a handfull of other travels or tourists visit them. Best time to visit is between January-April (dry season). 💚

Love those terraced fields, we experienced in Indonesia. Very inspirational one of your best hiking videos! The last part reminded me of Kauai, where we were last year, this time! Keep us educated and you are doing a great job!
(After about 6 months, we went on a backpacking trip to Lassen National Park (Area with least Covid infections) Did about 20 miles (About 32Km) and elevation gain of 2900' (880m) in three days. Saw some bears Most of the Covid and other stress was washed away. I was able to sleep for 8 hours after a very long time.)
