Love this performance!!! Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chinese imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash’s rol that’s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China’s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he couldn’t study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥 ❤️🎤🔝 One of the things a I love the most of Dimash is his versatility and his ability to show us different cultures through the music. In this case with Li Yugang, they have made a perfect match with the traditional Peking Opera style, beautiful 🌟

A little info on the guy in green - Li Yugang is a singer/performer in the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theatre who specializes in "nan dan" role, which is male who plays female role in Peking opera. Their different styles of singing together are magnificent - one contemporary (Dimash) and traditional (Li) and the style of clothes that are worn depict that contrast! Yes he is real! His name is Dink Muhammed Kanatuly Kudaibergen or best known as Dimash Qudaibergen, #thebestsingerever (at least he is for me). He's only 28 years old but he has attended singing lessons since he was 5 years old. He has sung in more than 13 different languages, although he only speaks Kazahk (his mother tongue), English, Russian and a bit of Chinese. He can play more than 6 different instruments . He also is a song writer, director, dancer and is very skilled in swimming and Tae Kwon do. Also is a peace embassador and an amazing human being. Thank you for reacting to his music. Try Stranger from New Wave 2021. It’s in English and very theatrical. Then S O S from Dimash’s digital show. It’s in French. or Ogni Pietra which is in italian, Or Ikenaide which is in Japanese. Or El Amor En Ti which is in Spanish. Dimash sings in 14 languages now, I believe. He also composes, dances, directs, models and plays seven instruments. And is very much the humanitarian.

Li Yugang: Ancient Chinese tradition prevented women from performing for men at the Old Opera House in Beijing. From this tradition came a style called “Nan Dan” in which the man plays a female role in the Beijing Opera. One that was a restriction, today turned into culture and the greatest exponent of this culture in China is the singing and performer Li Yugang: Who created his own theatrical play (Who toured the world in 2015) and released several CDs (successfully of sales) he won 4 Denny award in Beijing.
Iv actually heard of this it has a neat history to it for sure and the skill levels are off the charts!
Yeah, Dimash is 6' 3", so they had to give Li Yugang some help or the staging would have been funky.
Li Yugang specializes in Chinese theatre, where men play the female parts, so he has this amazingly high voice.
Then Dimash comes in and goes higher and lower. I suspect Li Yugang has a much better Mandarin accent for singing, which is tricky because it is a tonal language.
A sometimes overlooked amazing issue is that at this time Dimash had learned a little Mandarin, but was not fluent, yet singing it.

Dimash is a 28-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7,7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) - whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!).
He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He has his own company „DimashAli Creative Center“ and is managed by his father Kanat. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how.
Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, respectful and humble person. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He truly loves his homeland Kazakhstan and his people with all his heart and always shows it with pride in many of his songs, concerts and interviews. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this.
His concert in September 23, 2022 was in his hometown Almaty, it was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize your so wrong.
He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to improve his vocal skills.
He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. He sings almost every genre there is. Every time you watch a video, expect the unexpected. Even the covers he sings he makes his own and brings elements into the song that you would never expect. Don't be surprised if you get suggestions for songs you may have already seen. Dimash has different versions of many of the same songs. They are all worth seeing. Not only is he perfect at singing and performing, he's also an incredibly good actor. Check out his music videos. They are amazing. You think I’m exaggerating? No, I don’t think so😄.
Obviously you didn’t know the movie The 5th Element with Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich and Gary Oldman. The Diva Dance was written by Eric Serra for an alien opera singer in this movie and was not considered singable for a human voice. Parts of it were computer generated. There a some female singer who performed this song, but in my opinion not as precise as Dimash. And he is a male! This high note was an F#7 (not his highes note😉).
The second part of the song is called Drunken Concubine and the whole performance is from the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala in China. He sings with a great Chinese Opera singer who usually plays a female in classic Peking opera Li Yugang (the guy in green). That's why he's trained to sing so high. This nasal singing is traditional and he is a very famous singer in China. The two harmonize so well together. It’s really fantastic. I love it and I’m sure you will like it, too🥰.

Yeah it is way insane how much of a vocal range he has, some of the pitches he hits are hard to even whistle or reproduce with instruments. Iv seen the movie Fifth Element and actually saw how the opera part was made but I didnt recognize it until half way through being the title was all in Chinese or something so I didnt confirm it was actually that song until I translated it... Its crazy he is doing naturally what took them technology to produce in the first place. Thank you for the suggestions I will be checking out a lot more from him fir sure.

But maybe to get a full view of his vocals you should check out his solo performance stuff, still just as impressive. That G7 note is crazy high, but he can go low too.

Unfortunately every time you speak or make a sound the sound goes off on the video and you miss some of the amazing singing, which is a great shame for you. You deserve to hear every note, and not miss ANY of it! This is such an important duet from two of the best singers in the world. Maybe there is a setting you can make on your set up so that you don't miss anything? Dimash is the guy on the right, Li Yugang is the Chinese guy on the left in the green robe. It's so fun for us "Dears" (that’s what Dimash calls his fans because he loves us as a dear family) to see how people react to him.
Some info about Dimash. He is born in May 24 1994. He is from Kazakhstan and has been music schooled sense 5 years old and told the teacher that the piano was out of tune! He sings about 7 octaves or so! No one knows he is still learning. He sings higher than the piano can go! He also writs and compose own songs, plays bunch of instruments including Dombra there own Kazakh instrument that has a sound you can’t believe and onley 2 strings! He also sings in about 14 (Kazakh, Turkish, Usceck, Russian, Ukranian, Serbien, Bulgarian Chinese , Italien, Spamish, French, English, German, Japanese ) languages and speaks 3 so far (Kazakh, Russian and English).
Dimash has an excellent education: he graduated from the College of Music with a degree in Opera Singing, university of arts in the specialty "Estrada and jazz vocals", and on June 18, 2020, he completed a master's degree in Composition. He graduated with a degree in opera from the music school at the University of Aktobe (2014), a degree in pop/jazz from the National Arts University in Nur Sultan (2018), just completed his Master's degree in composition (June 2020) and have started his PhD.
He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500.
Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside).
They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night.
Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to.

Gloria Wu's channel has the back-story about the song that is so sad and from a life story about a boy losing his parents in an awful way. Episode 10 : 'Unforgettable Day' In Kazakh and I think some translation in Chinese to. If I remember correct he wrote the music to this one when he was 19 years old and lyrics by Oral-kosai Baisengir, who was a poet/lyricist father of a friend of Dimash. Also in this show another contestant "Terry Lin" that was about 51 years young here he considered Dimash a dear friend at this point. But Dimash started telling them al he was his father around episode 9 I think!! That is a big respect and love from his part of the world to call him! Terry was gladly accepting it. They are still that close and also invites each other to there concerts and sometimes singing this song in duet to. They sang it in Jackie Chang movie festival in 2019 and Jackie was choked in how good they were. Terry was known as an alien before Dimash and they have similar vocals to.

There were two songs here the drunken concubine and the diva dance from the alien in the movie the fifth element. Li was doing Chinese opera. Though Dimash on the right can do Chinese opera as in his song stranger Dimash does any genre he chooses and mixes genres. At the bastau concent Dimash one’s the diva dance by himself surpassing the alien in the fifth elements whose voice was doctored with a computer Ed mixing board to prove no human could sing the diva dance but dimash does it better than the fake alien at the bastau concert. I don’t know how you Dimashified yourself by picking this diva dance version as your first time hearing Dimash. It was so funny to see you shook your first time hearing Dimash. This is what he does to us. He freaks us out. That high whistle note was not his highest as he hits a D8 off the piano making it a frequency and not a note. You can go to his channel and find Sos version at the digital concert show for a really great live music digital video even as good as bohemian rhapsody which Freddy is dimashs idol along with Michael. Dimash is the best singer in a hundred years. There’s music before Dimash and music after Dimash. He made it to the west coast recently in California to meet David foster producer of Michael, Whitney, Mariah, Michael bubble, Peter cetara and Amy grant. Dimash is in his doctorate in his country at his university in music and is California at a New York film school for which he received a scholarship. That voice you heard is real.
I recall watching the making of that on the fifth element and never in a million years would I have thought it would actually be done for real by a human. Such an incredible talent I look forward to checking out more from him!

Congratulations, you just witnessed the greatest vocalist alive. He’s from Kazakhstan, sings in 15 different languages (speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently, some English, and a little Mandarin). He plays 8 musical instruments and is currently working on his PhD in musicology (has a Masters in composition). He’s been training since the age of 5, has a 7 octave 2 semi-tone range, has absolute pitch, and is an amazingly humble man. His mother is an opera singer and his father is a singer and producer. Dimash wasn't a child prodigy, but he always wanted to be a musician and grew up surrounded by music. In his childhood, Dimash trained in taekwondo. Dimash did not fit into the traditional image of a singer in Kazakhstan and was heavily criticized. In 2016, Dimash turned down the offer of an engagement at the National Opera in Astana (capital of Kazakhstan) because he wanted to go his own way.
