Li Yugang: Ancient Chinese tradition prevented women from performing for men at the Old Opera House in Beijing. From this tradition came a style called “Nan Dan” in which the man plays a female role in the Beijing Opera. One that was a restriction, today turned into culture and the greatest exponent of this culture in China is the singing and performer Li Yugang: Who created his own theatrical play (Who toured the world in 2015) and released several CDs (successfully of sales) he won 4 Denny award in Beijing.
Something I always find intriguing in this one is the two's stage performance. Li Yugang, as a traditional Chinese opera singer, has very stylized movements; Dimash conducts himself with his hands--something I always find fun to watch. And every duet I've seen with Dimash is great--he sings however he needs to do to serve the music. He lets the other person take the lead when it's appropriate and sings his part as the music demands--he doesn't try to take all the credit. Dimash doesn't get caught up in his ego when he performs.
It's definitely a fun performance but definitely not Dimash's best performance of The Diva Dance. I love how he's so respectful of other artists. This time he could break loose a little but normally he's always holding back as much as he has to. It's great to see him being able to blow out all the stops with another artist.
Love this performance!!! Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chinese imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash’s rol that’s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China’s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he couldn’t study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥 ❤️🎤🔝 One of the things a I love the most of Dimash is his versatility and his ability to show us different cultures through the music. In this case with Li Yugang, they have made a perfect match with the traditional Peking Opera style, beautiful 🌟

This whole performance is called Diva Dance and Drunken Concubine and it is from the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala in China on January 25th, 2020. He sings with a great Chinese Opera singer who usually plays a female in classic Peking opera Li Yugang. That's why he's trained to sing so high. This nasal singing is traditional and he is a very famous singer in China. The two harmonize so well together. It’s really fantastic. Btw this high not was „only“ an F#7😅. I love it. Please react also to the Diva Dance from his Bastau concert. He performed this song on his first solo concert in Kazakhstan called Bastau in 2017. It was after he finished The Singer competition in which he also performed The Diva Dance together with another awesome Italian song Confessa by the Italian singer Adriano Celentano. The Bastau version is short but much better. He was much more relaxed there because it was his concert and no competition. What fascinates me the most is, that he sang this song in his concert where he had already been on stage for almost 2 hours. Just unbelievabel🤯. He worked so hard for this terrific concert. I’ve seen it written that this wasn’t another D8. It’s a slightly lower whistle. Sounded great to me though. This whole duet is such fun. Have you seen Dimash singing Swan Goose with Tengri. He was on I Am Singer too ). They do a fun song with Mongolian throat singers. It’s very unusual. Dimash seems to really enjoy duets with very different artists, like rappers and opera singers. He must enjoy the challenge.
