    Michael Kiske (singer, took over vocals from guitarist Kai Hansen) was only 17 when he recorded this
    The band had lots of fallouts, new members over he years after their peak in 1989/90
    You should check out their reunion show (Pumpkins Reunited) from Wacken on 2017/18 - all 3 singers (Kai/Michael/Andi), 3 guitars, its immense
    See the 12 minute Keeper of the Seven Keys performance. Its ace.

    There is a project called avantasia where tobias sammet the composer openly admitted Michael Kiske being the reason why he wanted to sing. So sammet after a while wrote albums for his favorite singers. So Avantasia features many singers on one album that he wrote songs for and of course MR Kiske is not missing. That is some rabbit hole to go through for itself.

  • @NS1.
    @NS1. ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't believe Michael Kiske was just barely out of high school when he recorded this. He was one of the best of the best 80's metal operatic singers. Up there with Geoff Tate, Bruce Dickenson, Ray Alder, Warrel Dane...I could go on.
    Hey Kaiya, check out the band 'Sanctuary'. Their first 2 albums from '88 and '90 were total kickass thrash with great vocals and great guitar. They had a video on MTV from their second album. I'm almost positive you'd dig their style. Warrel Dane's (RIP) vocals were tremendous.
    Edit: Oh! Also, their live version of 'White Rabbit' live in Tokyo. 😎🌹

    Great reaction! This is the first time I've come across your channel. You were spot on in your first assessment that the singer sounds like Bruce Dickenson from Iron Maiden and King Diamond. I had the same reaction almost 40 years ago when it came out! This song is awesome. They are still touring!! I've been a metal head for 25 years, I've been too 100s of concerts, and a few rock festivals (Sweden Rock Festival). But somehow I always thought Helloween was some super-heavy-only-scream band, so I never listened to them, I knew zero.
    Then I saw a reaction to the song Halloween, from their United Alive tour (Madrid), and fuck have I been missing out! They're magical, especially live. And now with both singers on stage. I can listen to that record everyday 🤘

    I never heard the similarity to Bruce, and I've listened to them since '87, but everyone makes that comparison. Other than the style they sing in, the voice was always different to my ears.
    I suggest the sequel to this song "Keeper of the Seven Keys" from the part II album, and "Skyfall" from the latest album, both 13 minute epics.
    They are not concept albums, but they have the two long concept pieces that tie them together.

My dad bought my brother the Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 2 album, and when I heard the opening track (Eagle Fly Free) I was fully on board immediately. It's kinda sad because I haven't seen my brother or my dad for over 20 years, but every time I hear this band I'm taken straight back to my childhood and my memories of rocking out with the two of them.

    The Keeper albums are NOT concept albums in the strictest sense. While some songs are conceptually linked and/or make references to other songs on the album(s), they are not arranged in any real order that would suggest it is a "chapter by chapter" telling of a story arc.
    The opening and closing tracks of Part I do serve their purpose as album openers/closers, but are not anything special. Initiation is an instrumental that leads directly into the next track (I'm Alive), and Follow The Sign is just a slow, ambient guitar solo with whispered narration, and really acts as a prelude to the title track, which appears as the last track on Part II. Part II also opens with an instrumental similar (if only by name) to Initiation, called Invitation, which then leads into Eagle Fly Free (an amazing track, which has a nice little bass solo and drum solo worked into it).
    Part II runs longer than Part I, and while it may have some of the better songs on an individual measure (which include Save Us, March Of Time, You Always Walk Alone, We Got The Right, and the title track), Part I can probably boast that "all" of its songs are good, but the best tracks would have to be Twilight Of The Gods, I'm Alive, A Little Time,Future World, and of course, Halloween. That leaves only the shorter "intro/outro" tracks that "bookend" the album.

      Kiske never auditioned for Iron Maiden. It was a rumor that he would, but kiske denies that ever happened. It was really only between blaze bayley and Russ north (cloven hoof). Also kiske was the one who mentioned he wouldn’t join because he was German and maiden being English, the fans would never accept it.
