I watched that Texans game on TV when I was a kid. Instant Fitzmagic fan. Glad to see he's still around, doing what he does. His story has always kept me engaged in the NFL and he has always been a consistent entertainer, whether that's been intentional or not. While I'd imagine he's nearing the end of his career, I'd love for him to work his *magic* one or two more times before it's all said and done. Love the guy.
I remember I was watching that 5 int game when he was on the Rams with my dad and I was like “this guy’s a bum. He’ll be out of the league in 2 years.” I was 11 at the time. I’m now 24 and Fitz is still doing his thing. Good on him.
He's only making 3.5 mil a hand.Thats backup money. He hasn't stolen any money .He hasn't made huge money. I mean Cousins is making 28 mil a year and Fitz has more wins than he does.
I'm a Steelers fan. And I acknowledge that we are struggling bad this year. So when we were set to play the Bucs who were coming off of back-to-back dominant performances by Fitz, I got to hear it from all of the non-Steelers fans around me that we were going to get crushed. I was like "no, this is Ryan Fitzpatrick. His numbers are completely meaningless." So he came out in the first half and was horrible, and I was happy. Then they came back because our defensive coordinator is an idiot, and they had one more chance to embarrass us. I got several texts like "0-2-1, boy" and I was like "nope. This is Ryan Fitzpatrick. Those previous 3 scores are meaningless." And then he screwed up, they punted, and we won. Fitzpatrick, man. That's how he rolls.
I like him too. He plays fun football. He will chance it for a shot at a TD or a big pickup. He’s basically the good old gunslinger like if you’re playing with your friends it’s terrific and you’ll put up 50 points or it’ll be a horrendous meltdown if they pick you off. It makes the game fun. If you’re QBing (which I used to do when my arm was still good) you’re just chancing your receivers if you see a potential and that’s what he does. That’s why he puts up the yardage when he’s got talent.
I can tell you what it is. He has ADHD. He gets a thrill out of being the journeyman, the nomad. The novelty of change. It’s fun for him. He doesn’t purposely suck because it’s apart of his Diabolical plan to take a team for a free ride. He just simply gets, well, bored. He is hyper competitive, but enjoys having fun the most. The moment things start to get too serious he loses focus. Hopefully someone figures out how to keep him focused through a 16 game season....
That’s an interesting take....I think it’s more that he has a tendency to overplay his talent level once he gets too comfortable and complacent. Gets cocky once and makes mental errors, and doesn’t have the talent level to back that up. He has probably one of the worst arms in the NFL but is great at detecting holes in defenses. I think he’s starting to ‘get it’ with his stint in the Dolphins and he’s been a lot more consistent there than anywhere else in his career. His stats are deceiving this year and is played some of the best teams in the NFL. I don’t know how much longer he has left in his career, but your ceiling being Chad Pettington is still very good. I can see him going to the Jags after this season for his last 2-3 year stint.
@@iansmith3593 I work with ADD/HDHD individuals. Now, I can't be 100% positive. But that is my two cents. I would also say ADD runs rampant in sports. Athletics is a huge outlet for many ADD types. Brett Favre, Chad Johnson, Tony Romo, Jared Allen, Cam Newton, Terry Bradshaw, etc.
It’s obvious. He has a track record of being a genuis from Harvard and shows “flashes” of “greatness” as an athlete. Has nobody figured out that he can flat out play but is smart enough to know how to make money? The theory is simple. He’s a discreet gambler. He puts money on himself when no one expects anything out of him. Wins the underdog games, cashes out. When odds are then in his favor, he bets against himself, throws the game, then cashes out. Makes money either way and the big contracts he gets when winning is chump change compared to what he makes from gambling. #ScamArtist101 #GeniusesUseTheirBrainsToMakeMoney
Ok so let’s say he has this magic talent he can pull out whenever he wants... Wouldn’t he make more money playing like that every game? Between the 9 figure contract and endorsement deals that would come I’d say so...
@@sabinpaul2395 The thing is he's already got a system going, when he started that was a long shot and now that he's here his getting a bit old for endorsement deals so he might as well ride his system out.
Its called the Fitzcycle: signed as back-up , named starter at some point, wins games, becomes a favorite in match-ups plays like shit, rinse and repeat. Some would call him the poorman's Brett Farve(most turnovers of all time) in that he is "gunslinger" style QB who creating plays based on "luck" with a 50/50 TD/turnover ratio. I would still take him over Nathan Peterman any day of the week.
Ryan Fitzpatrick has 16 more passing TDs in his career than "HOFer" Troy Aikman, in 44 less starts. Now, as of 9/28/18, Ryan Fitzpatrick remembered he is Ryan Fitzpatrick.
What's your point??? Aikman played against defenses that were allowed to knock the piss out of you. Titspatrick plays in an era where a clean hit by Clay Matthews is flagged. Are you saying that Titspatrick is better than Aikman becuase he has more passing TD's??? Because with that type of logic I could say Trent Dilfer is a better QB than Dan Marino just becuase Dilfer has a Super Bowl ring.
"There's this dude who sucks, but he looks like the guy who would play a quarterback in a movie, so people keep signing him. He's also got a little brother who sucks worse than him, but somehow managed to coat-tail ride into the league even though he looks like a guy who would be a gym teacher in the movies, and his big brother sucks too." That would be a short video, man. So let's do some other mediocre white dudes. Tim Hasselbeck: "He's like Luke McCown, except the big brother doesn't suck." Chris Simms: "He's like if Tim Hasselbeck had Josh McCown's looks, and the big brother was his dad instead." Eli Manning: "Josh McCown's skills, Tim Hasselbeck's brother, and Chris Simms's dad. Only this time the brother is a Hall of Famer, so everyone treats this schlub like he's a Hall of Famer, too. Looks like he was dropped as a baby." Chad Pennington: "What if Dan Marino had a noodle arm and played for the f***ing Jets?" Phillip Rivers: "What if Chad Pennington had Tim Tebow's religion and a completely insufferable ego?" Jay Cutler: "What if there was someone who was the exact opposite of Chad Pennington? Well, he'd be mediocre too." Rex Grossman: "What if there was someone who was the exact opposite of Phillip Rivers, but you gave him a funny name?" Tim Tebow: "What if you crossed Mark Bavaro with a Baptist missionary, and then Urban Meyer let him play quarterback?" Chase Daniel: "Who the f*** is Chase Daniel? That doesn't sound like a real person."
@@JonPITBZN How dare you call Chad Pennington mediocre!? 😂 He was a fucking stud who just got injured too much. He is one of the most accurate QBs ever. I use him a lot when I go back to play NFL 2K5.
Yeah it said his good year with the Jets was 2016 but that was his bad year and it said 2017 was his bad year with the Jets but that was his first with the Bucs
I mean honestly, you play dynamically at time to convince people you’re starter material. Catch a big contract and then ride the bench while keeping your health lol he’s so fucking smart it’s crazy
I've watched this video like six extra times just for the transition into his Jets highlights. Not even because I'm a fan, I'm actually a Giants fan, that transition is just so hype.
Congrats on your retirement, Ryan. Even as a Patriots fan, to see your achievements over 17 years in football is astonishing. Enjoy your retirement and happy trails!
I think he's just a evil genius who learned how to beat the system..he waits it out long enough for the starters and backup qbs get injured then he goes in and dominates just enough to get people to take notice..once he gets the big money contracts he stops trying and purposely plays like crap so they put him back on the bench and trade him at the end of the season..the team is out a bunch of money and he out like a ghost. It's the big con.
I genuinely think he did this. I think he could have been a hall of famer if he wanted, but who cares if you have 18 mil in publicly known assets and the rest of the 60 million you made is sitting in the bank. Man pulled off the biggest heist that was 100% legal probably in history. At least top 5. And all he had to do was go sicko mode, get paid, act like your trying, but don't try and suck. Rinse and repeat
A couple things I always think when someone brings up Fitzpatrick at the current time: -Fitzpatrick has always been a gambler at QB. He's hyper aggressive, and willing to challenge DB's on balls that arent 50/50. This has endeared him to almost every team he's been on, because skill position players especially know he will respect their ability, believe in them to the point of endangerment. This is also because, hell, you be a 7th round pick in this league and get to start. Noone wants to go out with a ultra conservative dink/dunk whimper, whats the worst that can happen? You get _benched?_ Golly gee, what a threat! You can't threaten a guy like that, he's got nothing to lose because he often has nothing to begin with. It's that exact attitude why Bucs receiver Desean Jackson has stuck his neck out for him; their relationship has paid dividends downfield in ways it never materialized with Winston. -With exception to maybe this Buccaneers team offensively (the offensive line is still...offensive at times, lets be frank) he's never had a great team. There are incredibly few QB's you describe as a "truck" in which they pull the team along regardless, so it's not exactly insulting to say Fitzpatrick isn't a truck. And even during his 10-6 Jets season, people forget that was a team that was incredibly top heavy talent wise with major flaws on the roster. The next season, as many surprise teams do, they regressed to the mean as those high profile players slowed or got hurt. It was only natural their flaws would show through. Past coordinators from Buffalo and teammates from other teams mention how they felt they failed him as a QB, that the talent level was never really there and he had to do too much to compensate for the roster flaws. Looking back on it, its hard to disagree. -Even if you cant believe Fitzpatrick is possibly in the drivers seat of an offense, again, at least for 1 more week (Chicago) the reality is even if Jameis Winston hadnt gotten suspended, the former top pick to me hasn't showed enough on film or off the field to committ to him anymore over an older Fitzpatrick. He's a maddening talented pile of inconsistency at best. You can understand where Fitzpatrick's turnovers come from, they come from a aggressive attitude in the passing game even when its ill advised. Winston's come from poor decision making in general; a significant gap exists between going for 50/50 throws and just making a bad read time and again on 25/75 balls. He's just not shown in any respect why this team should committ to him beyond this season. That Fitzpatrick has endeared himself to this team, and coaching staff, in a way that we're even having this discussion *again* about this player, over a former top pick, tells you just how fall public/internal perception has fallen of Winston. And while I don't think they should make Fitz the long term starter (past this season) the fall from grace for Winston may ensure their best chance at winning relies with the old Harvard alum. Weird as it may seem to say that.
Very good analysis. Fitz’s bad throws tend to at least make logical sense most of the time but end in ints from failed routes or the fact his arm isn’t that of some QBs but overall they’re not the worst decisions that could be made. He typically doesn’t telegraph his throws which is a downfall of a lot of QBs he can actually read a defense, he just chances it more. However he’s been on a lot of really really lousy teams and he’s made the most of what he had. If he’s paired with any sort of talent he looks like a million bucks. Barring his own injury (or meltdown which I doubt happens, I could see him being benched from top down management) Tampa is so stacked with receivers he could really show what could have been had a team built around him instead of him being a perrenial backup. I’ve long thought Buffalo should have simply kept him all these years and built a receiver corps and o line around him.
Seems to me like seeing it through rose coloured glasses. If he can do it, when nobody expect anything from, but sucks, when there are expectations, that means something: He sucks, when it matters. And that is his problem. And the 2015 Jets Team was good. The o-line didn´t suck, he had Marshall and Decker, his secondary was good and the D-Line was superior. But he fucked it up in Buffalo. And the next season he even fucked it up more.
Buffalo was not a overall talented team when he was there, certainly not one to merit much consideration. He essentially got the job due to Trent Edwards issues and the fact the HC was going to get fired at the end of the year anyhow. Many of the teams biggest names were still players trying to find their way at that time (or just trying to stay out of trouble). I guess "thinking" you have a guy leads to expectations, even if they dont fit reality. And the reality was those middling teams had no business in the playoff picture anyhow, any of those years. There just wasn't enough around him to compete with the Jets and Patriots at that timeframe let alone other AFC heavyweights. I struggle to see what would've given them 4+ wins in most of those circumstances to make good on the rediculous promise that is any QB that even appeared viable to a starving Buffalo crowd... The 2015 Jets was as I said, top heavy. Darrell Revis fell off a cliff as a CB, while Cromartie left in general. Skrine has never been a No. 1 CB and asking him to be at that point was trouble. He was always a bridesmaid. Damon Harrison left to help fuel a defensive led "rebirth" of the Giants before also succumbing to the mean as a team. Mangold went to IR, Decker to IR, Brandon Marshall couldn't gain seperation and aside from Williams at DT the team essentially whiffed both draft classes. Moreover, the 2016 Jets lead the league in dropped passes; Brandon Marshall only behind Michael Crabtree in drops with 8 in the league. D'brickashaw Ferguson, an excellent player, retired and his intended replacement Ryan Clady was average at best before getting hurt again. This was a team that wasn't impressive prior to that season, nor after. Like I said, the type of play they had was not sustainable with aging stars and no reinforcements. Fitzgerald probably got more out of that team then any other non "truck" QB could, even with the botched final game of the season. Don't need rose tinted glasses to see that team had no depth and no business being in the playoff conversation beyond that season.
But you don´t get my main argument. Even with the better team, he couldn´t get it done. He choked in Buffalo, I´ve seen the game live. And that´s my problem. He can´t work with pressure. If you expect something from Fitzmagic, you´re screwed. And I´m sorry: I remember the game with his six picks. I´ve seen his three picks last monday. Sometimes he can do the job, but sometimes he fucks it up in an impressive fashion. He´s too good to be a Clipboard Holder, but he is too bad to be reliable Starting QB.
Fitzpatrick is one of my favorite NFL players of all time, up there with Brian Urlacher, Fitzgerald, Steven Jackson, and Devin Hester. This is my own personal top players, who I actually got to watch and just be in awe of their talent. One of my favorite interviews is when Fitzpatrick brought up his son to answer math problems, it shows he values intelligence while still being a little bit goofy! And that is his sweet spot!

This man finessed the entire NFL for over $60 million, and I'm not even mad.

This man has always been one of my favorite NFL players for some reason
I like him too. He plays fun football. He will chance it for a shot at a TD or a big pickup. He’s basically the good old gunslinger like if you’re playing with your friends it’s terrific and you’ll put up 50 points or it’ll be a horrendous meltdown if they pick you off. It makes the game fun. If you’re QBing (which I used to do when my arm was still good) you’re just chancing your receivers if you see a potential and that’s what he does. That’s why he puts up the yardage when he’s got talent.
Me too hes a gunslinger, isnt affraid to throw the ball between defenders

Still one of my all time favorite Quarterbacks! When he retires, we need him in the booth.
I agree 100%
I don’t doubt what you say, but I’m curious how you know he has ADHD.
@@jpusar I agree. However, I think that is a symptom.

You'd take him over the greatest defensive player in NFL history? Shame on you sir. Shame on you.
Ryan Fitzpatrick has 16 more passing TDs in his career than "HOFer" Troy Aikman, in 44 less starts. Now, as of 9/28/18, Ryan Fitzpatrick remembered he is Ryan Fitzpatrick.
PicksPatric?
Tw1 Only Fitzmagic knows for sure.
But Troy Aikman played with Emmit Smith. Also Fitzpatrick plays in a passing era.
Rafael Campos because of Emmitt Smith, the greatest o line ever, and Micheal Irvin.
For Fitzmagic to work, a sacrifice must be offered to him. More often than not, it's the first string quarterback
A most worthy sacrifice, Sire

Chad Pennington: "What if Dan Marino had a noodle arm and played for the f***ing Jets?"
Phillip Rivers: "What if Chad Pennington had Tim Tebow's religion and a completely insufferable ego?"
Jay Cutler: "What if there was someone who was the exact opposite of Chad Pennington? Well, he'd be mediocre too."
Rex Grossman: "What if there was someone who was the exact opposite of Phillip Rivers, but you gave him a funny name?"

Chase Daniel: "Who the f*** is Chase Daniel? That doesn't sound like a real person."

This entire video im wondering,
*WHAT HAPPENED TO JASON CAMPBELL?*
*IKR*
A couple things I always think when someone brings up Fitzpatrick at the current time:
-Fitzpatrick has always been a gambler at QB.
Dude, you should have your own channel with that analysis.
Legend. Congrats for your incredible career, fitz!
