3rd year golfer, 53 years old, I can truly say FIX AN OVER THE SWING INSTANTLY ( my secret tip) is the most priceless video I have watched to date, and believe me, 3 years of videos, I have watched many. I can truly say the impact of this video directly related to my golf game, is the first time in 3 years I can say, I finally feel like like I can repeat a swing with positive results. Cannot wait to truly prove this over this upcoming season. Priceless, Paul, appreciate you, all your golf tips, as well as your technique of teaching in the videos. Look forward to many more. God Bless America

Just to let you know. I watch Sheils, Mr. Short Game, Clay Ballard and a few others. I must say that you make more sense than all of them. Don't get me wrong, I've learned from all of them but your take on things makes more sense in a practical way. Don't know why you don't have a million subscribers. Thanks for all of it.
Thanks. Glad you like them. To me it is all about the student understanding it. So I say it in a simple way that you get it. If you get it you will do it. I don't have a million subscribers because these other guys have hundreds if not over 1,000 tips. I did all this on 60. Now I have been posting regularly since mid May. See what happens as I keep posting. More and more people will find out and subscribe. Just a matter of people finding out. Thanks for your support.
I found Clay Ballard's short game instruction worked for me but not his Driving coaching. Opposite was true for Sheil's. For whatever reason I connect well with Paul Wilson's teaching with better and faster results. I often revert back to Paul's teaching when I get stuck on something or poor swing creeps back in.
This is probably THE best tip I have ever gotten from my YT private coaches. As Paul said...the first ball I hit using this went dead straight, solving a strong contact excessive fade I have been working to cure for months. I could not stop saying outloud..."That's incredible". Fortunately, I was the only one on the range at the time. In fact I was so amazed I returned to the range an hour later just to make sure it really happened. Simple change, real results. Thanks Paul!
Thanks. This is a good one. I can imagine you looking around but no one there. Too funny. Let's hope you can do it again. Keep in mind this is a quick fix. Omg...i have tried every & nothing worked. I tried this 4 times & I bombed it straight each time..This actually works ...it's crazy when all the other videos I watched never cured my over the top swing..Again thank you...
Thank you so much for your video tips! 15 years ago I was a 6 handicap but had to have back surgery (maybe from hitting to many balls?) and I went 12 years with no golf. I saw your videos and with following your instructions have been able to play again without pain! And the more I watch, the lower my scores have gotten. I am down to a 10 hcp now. Despite being 15 years older and at what might call an advanced age, with your swing, I am hitting it nearly as far as I did before surgery. Thank you for bringing the game back to me.
Glad you like them and are getting back with no pain. You are easy to teach. At a 6 hdcp you've already powered your swing with the legs and hips. The break got you using arms due to human nature telling you to hit the object sitting in front of you. I just got your legs activated again. Keep the arms and wrists even looser into the future and really feel the legs and hips as the power source. If so, you will be a 6hdcp again.
All TH-cam golf tips don't work for anyone, I find that's the case a lot for me. However this truly just fixed my slice. On trackman, my swing plan was a -6 out to in for the most part. After 3 shots of trying this trick, I was consistently hitting between a 0 to +2 in to out swing plane with longer and straighter drives. Thank you so much.

Great to hear! Slicing is not fun but it it so easy to fix. Just need to see it differently. Thanks for the support. Now let's see how much better you can play.
I'm a lefty with a terrible pull slice, this helped tremendously. Not only am I hitting a draw now but the difference in spin added 20 yards to my drives. This tip and several others you've posted have made golf truly enjoyable for me as now I can play the course instead of worrying about losing another ball. Best coach on TH-cam in my humble opinion.

@@paulwilsongolf can I use the same format with irons .? Thankyou I’m about to quit golf if I can’t find a solution as it’s heartbreaking trying to play like this .
Sure, just don't jam it into the ground behind the ball. It is a place to look at knowing you are going to hit the actual ball. Over the top is you hitting with the arms it's that simple. If you are right handed and lean left coming down you will swing left. Need to angle back to hit the ball. Paul, I am one of those over the top players, I tried this yesterday on the range & it worked. Then I tried it on the golf course by imagining a spot 6” behind the ball on the inside of the ball alignment & I hit a a drive about 30 yards further than I had been hitting it with a little draw!! That made my day to say the least! Thanks for this tip, it really works! :-). Don/NE Ohio

Played a round in a sim yesterday and over the top is what it showed me consistently. This is my biggest problem and hopefully get it sorted by spring! Thx again Paul!
This is 5 mins to fix this. If you are swinging over the top you are hitting with the arms. You need to stop hitting. The hitting causes your whole body to tilt left as you start down. This sends it over the top. You need to turn your arms off and fire the lower body to start down. In this process the upper body tilts back. This produces the path from the inside. So this is why the club shallows: th-cam.com/video/cogyf6UjH7U/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/lpAugDvakfU/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/64xUMTcrn2I/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/sbE-hzTXgNo/w-d-xo.html Watch these too: th-cam.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/sbE-hzTXgNo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/2cPM_FSoHNM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/KlffJzbskmM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/p6YWiBPnQqI/w-d-xo.html

When you said instantly you meant exactly that. After slicing several in a row I tried this at the range today. Hit the rest of the bucket with my driver using this tip and every single one went straight or had a little draw. Absolutely amazing. Now just have to figure out how to get them straight on the course
Yes, I get super fast results. This one had helped tons of people. Just need a few practice sessions and you should be able to do it. Just pick out a blade of grass behind the ball. You've got this.
WOW. I was having a really rough time with slicing and swinging over the top and after this one simple tip I was hitting it so much more straight and many of them were draws! I have tried so many different tip videos and this was the best, most simple, and most practical. I just have a question: should you/can you move the tee closer to the ball with shorter irons?
Glad you tried it and it worked for you. Pretty simple. You can try whatever you want but keep in mind the tee is back so you attack from the inside. The closer you move it to the ball the more over the top you will swing.
This is without question the best driver tip I've ever tried. Even hitting baby draws today. I've tried loads of tips and drills and this is by far the simplest and quickest to see results. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the tip on stopping the swing going over the top. I am about an 11 handicaper but still stuggle, at times, keeping the ball from drifting right. After watching your video, I had no opportunity to practice before my early morning round last week. After hitting one of my fading drives, I decided to put the tee in the ground, as you described, while playing during my round. Well, the turnaround was almost instant, and I began to hit piercing drives with my best just short of 300 yds - terrific results !! Thank you so much for this tip !

I have looked at so many Pro video's but I keep coming back to Paul Wilson. Honestly, I have watched most his videos 2-3 times over the past month and I finally have a golf swing that is more predictable and results in 5-10 strokes lower. I can now play around and only lose 1-2 balls versus 4-6 balls. I had one game without losing a ball. I am looking forward to attending his golf school someday soon.
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. So glad you are improving. Makes the game a lot more fun. Keep at it and let's get it down to rarely losing a ball.
Any oldie, but a goodie. I also started to place the ball logo when on the tee on the lower left to visually force me to strike the ball on an in to out natural path. Great video!
I've had a "natural" over the top swing ever since I started 20 years ago. It either pulls or slices with an occasional down the middle drive. I've heard everything from correcting my grip to keeping my right elbow close to my body on the downswing. THIS is just so simple plus it helps me with "keeping my head down". Thnx again.
Sir.... Came across your Channel yesterday. I had a big problem coming “ over the top” and hitting left. Went to the range this morning, setup a station with a tee two inches back and inside, hit 60 balls, clipping the tee each time and not one went left. So simple and perfect fix, thank you so much. I’m hooked on your teaching methods.
I used this tip today while playing. I set a leaf six inches behind the ball AND IT WORKED!!! 250 to 270 almost dead straight. No banana slice which is my typical shot. I was shocked and my son was dumbfounded. Thank you
I went to the driving range today, and this is the only thing that works. I have been searching to fix my over the top for a while... I was hitting dead straight drives and draws today. Can't wait to hit the golf course! A+ - golfer from Canada

Great tips! I've been using your swing tips about 2 months now. Usually do 36 holes when I golf and i used to be tired after 27. Now with the effortless swing I'm still good after 36. Drive has gotten longer and my buddies notice how easy I'm swinging and the ball is going farther. Still a work in progress but not giving it up.

Paul I've been watching you since revolution golf days. Simple straight talking and makes difficult concepts easy to understand. I still try to touch my left knee with my right knee haha. Cheers from Scotland Joe
Paul, I've been trying to totally 100% comprehend the "powerless arms" concept for two years now. I originally thought powerless arms meant that at the top of the backswing to think "loose totally relaxed arms/just turn them off and let them drop like they're dead weight and go where they want to/like a string hanging loose that will be swung around in the air when the body turns", but my swing using this thought looks suuuuuuper slow with hardly any whip/whoosh and my ball contact is slappy and my distance weak. While the ball goes straight with that thought, it doesn't go very far no matter how fast I turn my hips. The faster I turn, the slappier the contact feels/sounds. No crispness at all at contact. The club lags but I mean lags as in a 2 year old barely being able to walk almost in slow motion. I've had people ask if that was my real swing or if I accidentally hit the ball during a little baby practice swing which isn't that flattering. I think loosey goosey spaghetti noodle arms where I hinged the wrists at the top and then try to just let my arms fall during the downswing. I keep a good but not super tight grip with this method and am not sure if my wrists unhinge too early from my arms being floppy losing lag as well. This method feels more "effortless" than the other interpretation I have but it sure isn't "powerful" so far. (But I do have swing position flaws including an eblow that wants to always raise up too high which may be part of the problem since it causes a disconnection and then since I'm not using the arms they fall really slowly behind.) The other interpretation I've tried is, "have a white knuckle grip (or almost white knuckle) once the club gets to the top of the backswing" (but I don't know if I should ever let the grip get less tight again after that?) making sure my wrists are hinged at the top and that it's okay for my forearms to naturally tense up from having a tight grip as long as I "don't hit or help with the arms" on the way down and that my arms will just move into the correct places automatically due to me turning my hips and body. This is more like your "hold your arm out, make a fist, and turn without moving your arm" powerless arms test example. With this second thought, my swing looks faster with much more whoosh (and distance when ball contact is pure), but it definitely causes me to feel my arms flex or tense up a bit. In this method, my arms still go along for the ride but they are not loosey goosey and not totally relaxed like a string in the "ball attached to a string" analogy. They feel more like a water logged pool noodle or a plastic baseball bat and have definite solidity to them. This second method may or may not make my wrists tighten up more than the first unless I consciously think about wrist hinge. It's more "powerful" but nowhere near "effortless" since I have to concentrate on maintaining the tight grip, not hitting with my arms, and really firing my hips. Does one of these two interpretations hit the nail on the head? Or am I close but still no cigar? Or way off? I just haven't had that "aha/eureka/no doubt about it now" moment with an image or feeling with the "powerless arms" concept yet that I feel is 100% correct. At first I thought without a doubt it was the loosey goosey dead weight arms thought but then I heard you say "powerless not floppy arms" during the backswing since you have to use your arms to get the club into position at the top, but from the top right before the downswing should we THEN think "floppy" arms or just never think floppy arms because that's the wrong idea? Thinking tight white knuckle grip at the top automatically causes some tension in the forearms (at least more than just having them feel like noodles, and I know I've heard you say you feel nothing in your arms) but as long as we don't hit or help are we supposed to have tense arms that just aren't moving independently on their own? Is that closer to correct? Should I think "keep the grip super tight from point A to point B?" and if so where is point B? Should I think "maintain that 90 wrist hinge from a point A to point B to keep that lag" and then where is point B? Or do the wrists just hinge and rehinge on their own after working on loosening them via the various drills so we don't have to think about them during the actual swings? Or am I missing something major? I don't feel pain in my arms with either thought I've described (and can do both without hitting or helping with my arms), but I don't feel really "effortless" or "powerful" with either mode yet. I'm still working super hard on the positions, and turning and feeling a stretch in my left side and uncoiling with my hips fast . That's kind of a (mental and physical) workout! Is it more of an "it looks effortless and powerful to others watching it" thing more than an "easy peasy la la la ball goes a mile with no effort" thing? Or am I just doing something totally wrong? I've seen you hit super relaxed and easy looking shots that still have whip that I can't seem to get without feeling a real effort in my hip turn. I definitely don't feel "effortless" when I fire my hips close to top speed. But again I know I have a bad habit of taking the club up way too early before turning enough and having a high back elbow which causes an upright over the top swing path. I'm working on that right now, but also wanting to make sure I know exactly what to think as far as powerless arms. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Nice drill!! I'm an "over the top" golfer; so much so I could change my name to "Roof". While playing, I know I can't put a tee in the ground, but I can find a small imperfection in the tee box to use as a substitute. Thanks Paul!!

I just did this on the range and it worked right away. I've gone from a baby fade or slice to straight and draw. My misses hooked and I never ever hook. @@paulwilsongolf Thanks, I'll be playing a fair bit over the course of the week so I'll try and implement these on the range and out on course. Looking forward to it. :)
that's a really smart approach that takes the technicality out of it and out of your head and allows you to swing freely. This is why golf is hard, it is counter intuitive, swing in to out, i.e. almost like you are trying to send the ball right but then the ball actually produces a draw. We have to get out of our heads. Thanks.
Wish I had watched this before going to the range on Friday. I’m kind of in a funk and feel I have lost my swing my last few rounds would also show that. More time at the range with drills like this. Thanks again.
Hi John, how have you applied this on the course? Do you literally apply another tee to the ground? Or have you gained a rough idea of where to aim on the back swing?
Thanks Paul - don’t doubt that this tip will work as every tip you’ve given me since I bought your Body Swing program a couple years ago has worked. Can’t wait to try it as when I miss its because I come over the top

Great tip Paul. Tried at the range today and hey presto, draw after draw after draw. Such a simple tip, don’t have to think about swing positions etc. Thank you! Now to take it to the course.
Exactly. I had this one idiot bashing me that it wouldn't work. Of course, he did so without trying it. People don't seem to realize this is 30 years I have been teaching this stuff. I only show things that are proven to work and you are proof of it working ... instantly. Good job.
Just picked up golf again after 6 years injury break. Slicing, outside in etc. Oh yes, this helped a great deal and made a huge difference, thanks very much! An advice that really helps and boosts confidence.
Paul Wilson Golf Thank you! Enjoying your various videos, great help. And, amazing that you reply to so many comments. Much appreciated! Wish I would be nearer to come by. Best wishes from Switzerland
Paul: This sounds like a Great tactic. I'm going to give it a whirl soon as it stops raining here in Chicago...and confirm my results. Thanks very much! Best regards, Todd
This is a good one. It really does work instantly. If you can't get to the range just grab a 7 iron and do a few practice swings at home for a few minutes so you know the feel for when you get out there.
Another great tip Paul,I’ve been putting your methods into practice over the last month, first time ever that my left arm muscles are not sore and swollen, super light grip and not hitting at the ball with the arms is the key for me and I’ve almost got rid of the over the top swing I’ve had for thirty plus years,I’m getting on in years but believe my best golf is still ahead of me,thanks again,Chris,Western Australia.
Fantastic! Feels so good being on the right track and starting to hit great shots. Keep up the good work. In no way should my swing hurt your body. If it does you are doing it wrong. Keep turning the arms off and its a whole new world.

So glad you are improving. Hitting it longer makes it easier for sure. Also glad you are now playing pain free. Makes the game a lot more fun. Keep up the good work.
Great tip/drill, as usual! Tks... After taking this tip to the range I can attest that it is a great tip! I have even used it while playing by picking a spot on the tee box, then teeing up as this tip states and focusing on that spot while executing my swing.
Thanks for the video Paul! Im 57 and have totally lost my swing this year. Im so bad over the top that most iron shots come out like a bad shanks. I have been trying to no avail. If something don't give soon i will be quitting this game due to high frustration. I really hope this works and again thank you sir!
Over the top is you trying to hit with your arms from the top. In doing so your whole body is leaning left. Lean left and you will swing left. So what would you do to get rid of it? Lean right. @@paulwilsongolf Really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I checked out the two clips you suggest...and will implement your instructions at the range tomorrow. I'm one off the unlucky majority who has a tendency to come over the top...been like that for 35 years. With your inspiration...I think I can tame this beast. Many thanks !
Over the top is pretty easy to fix. Need to stop hitting with the arms. Fire the lower and get the body tilting back. Just do those drills daily in practice swings. Once a weeks isn't going to cut it.
I’ve never heard this tip. I’m going to try it next time. I’m on the course or range. Thanks Paul for this amazing tip. I know it will work. I just subscribed to your blog.

Very good. This one is a super quick fix that has helped tons of golfers. I love the whipping description. Yes, this is correct. Keep doing it and you will play great golf.
Paul is terrific, he explains the problem succinctly, without a lot of fluff, and always has a drill to help fix the problem. He is one of the best "golf guys' on the web. Quite often, when my swing goes away, I just think of what Paul taught me and I am back in sync.
I’ve literally done/read hundreds of “instant fix” swing tips, none of which work. Yesterday I was so over the top I actually missed the ball. I just tried this and first swing was centre face. So were the next ten. Unreal!!
Excellent drill! Works with waffle balls in the backyard. Alignment stick is important too. Learning what proper alignment looks like standing over the ball is also crucial

I played a lot of golf up until my early 20s as a high single figure handicapper but haven't played in the past 3 decades. I have started again and notice that while I am surprisingly straight about 80% of the time (at our range with the tracking gear), I don't have the draw swing I had as a teenager/20s golfer. And -- my misses are now a straight pull the other 20%... my arms feel out of sync and like they're coming over the top. So am looking forward to giving the drill a go next range visit in a few days, thanks.

Hi Paul. Fab video again. I played yesterday and was crushing my 3 wood over 220 yards straight but my driver was pushing to the right rarely getting 200 yards. This exercise may help. Will be back at the range to try. Thanks
Man. I tried this today and wow !! Use to be a 2 handicap and got as bad this year as shanking my driver off the tee. Tired this last night and today on the range and wow. Bullets right down the middle. Even tried it off the ground with 3 wood and exact same result
Will give this a go tomorrow, have tired to start bigger arc swing which appears to cause me pulling left usually into trees.....will go range in morning and give this a go....need a quick fix as big comp Friday 🙈

I know we wont be able to swing like Tiger maybe Fred Couples. Other than trying to emulate your swing who else on PGA tour currently has it closest to your bodyswing style? Amazing simple and direct golf videos. Thanks.
Glad you like the tips. I appreciate the support. Well, you can swing like a pro in 4 positions plus grip and set up. This is what I have taught since 1991. Hit it as pure and long ... maybe not. I do like a few swings. The best would be: Whee Kim as well as Si Woo Kim. Others too I just can't think of right now. Tiger's new swing as well as 2000-2003.
Glad it helped. It can work for irons too. Just need to be careful if you start hitting it fat. If so, follow these: th-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/hAZyQXoIGac/w-d-xo.html

Great advice Paul !!! Takes practice, dedication, and focus to work the bad habits out of an over the top swing... and I should be a lumberjack for the way I can chop at the ball. I'll be buying drinks for you one day Paul. Thanks for all the tips.
Yes, takes a little work but this is a huge piece of the swing so for anyone who is coming over the top you need to make this priority one. Get the club attacking more from the inside and you whole game changes.
I know this is an old clip, but I developed a bad OTT swing in last few years and couldn’t shift it. Tried everything and nothing worked. Tried this and BOOM! Quite extraordinary results - thank you
This worked perfectly for me, struggled to believe it could be fixed so easily. Watched dozens of videos not one made it so easy. The tip works perfect for woods and driver. However seems to have less effect for an iron 5/6 any other great tip for that ?

Paul, I'd appreciate your thoughts on this ? If we look at some of the old videos of the great golfers of the past ...so many of them had an over the top move, including Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Locke, Jimmy Demaret, George Knudson, Ken Venturi, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Gary Player...even more modern OTT swingers include, Tony Jacklin , Tom Watson, Craig Stadler, Bernhard Langer ...... Bobby Jones is often recognised as the best ever and he took it back way way inside ...the club ended up way behind him , with his club pointing way across the target line at the top of the backswing....and then came out and over the top. These guys are all legends and major winners.... I believe trying to eliminate OTT from a natural swing is too hard , especially for a senior and I think the secret is to just ensure you stay inside the target line coming down... I've actually just gone back to an OTT swing at 63 years old, and I'm hitting it easier, longer, more controlled, more accurate, and way more powerfully.... my irons are so much better....and I've always been a terrible iron player before... now I'm hitting it pure and long with a draw ... Thoughts ?
I have seen the same thing and said this to myself for years. A lot of those golfers you listed come inside then over the top which is still attacking from the inside. Moe Norman pulls everything. Bobby Jones would be the most inside over the top swinger for sure. It's interesting how the world of instruction keeps changing and things take hold that do nothing to make average golfers or pros better. In this case the shaft needs to flatten in the downswing as opposed to being steep so although many greats took it way inside and came over the top they were all flattening the shaft towards (if not at) 90 degrees to their body in the downswing. Ams typically send it more over the top and the shaft steepens. This moves the club away from 90 degrees to their body (axis) resulting in slower swing speeds and if they lock the wrists, big slices. So what is the solution? I just keep doing what I do. I keep trying to get the golfer to use the legs and hips with the arms turned off in the downswing. If so the shaft flattens and they swing from the inside. For me though, I know my students and what they can even handle. They rarely practice so trying to get them to do difficult moves is not going to happen. Simple. Just keep this in mind as you continue in the future. Do what you need to do to play your best.

The over the top swing is my biggest issue......gets me into too much trouble off the tee to score consistently well so will be trying this drill at the range tomorrow......you’ve talked it up so fingers crossed it helps me!!
Yes, most people do that. You need to get on this asap. Fix this and your game will dramatically change. Here are some more: th-cam.com/video/sbE-hzTXgNo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/2cPM_FSoHNM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/KlffJzbskmM/w-d-xo.html
I used your tip on the driving range and was amazed at how it instantly cured my over-the-top drives. My practice drives were consistently straight and/or had a slight draw. I struggled, though, when I tried to transfer this new technique to the course. Obviously, I can't put a tee in the ground for my target on the course, so on my backswing I would try to pick a blade of grass about six inches and on the inside of my ball and aim at that. But that's not as easy to do as having a nice bright tee for a target. On the course, most of my drives were hard pulls. How do you recommend transferring this technique to the course?
Glad you tried it and saw the result. Just do this drill. I just posted this which is another variation of that drill. You can do this anywhere: th-cam.com/video/GF7JQHr2hhw/w-d-xo.html
Also, if you keep doing it at the range you will be doing it in your swing without thinking about it. Like any change this can take days, weeks, or a month or so. Keep doing it. Want it faster? Do daily practice swings at home.
@@paulwilsongolf Paul, I just wanted to thank you for posting this video. I have been practicing this little drill over the past week and my success rate has improved with each range bucket. Absolutely love your tips but in particular this over the top secret tip. No slices or fades!
Question please - how does one transfer this tip to the golf course? What am I trying to do when I swing at the ball on the course? Look at something 6” behind the ball to aim for? Or practice with 2,000 or so practice swings using this tip (not trying to be facetious) ? Have played golf for 30 years and your tip just might help break that over the top problem. Any advice is most appreciated - thank you!

Hi Paul. The most amazing tip I've come across.Took it to the coarse today and wow I was astonished how much more distance and straighter I was hitting the ball. Even had a few baby draws. The dreaded over the top shot has been a killer in my game for the last twenty years. Not sure how looking 6 inches behind the ball changes the mechanicals of the swing but the drill 100 % works..Thanks again and keep up your good work. Cheers Wayne

Great tip Paul. It makes a lot of sense. Since the ball is a little farther back in the stance with irons, will this tip also work on iron swings? I think I swing over the top with all of my clubs (except the putter).
I think I've finally accepted that my potential in obtaining a consistent golf swing is limited, if I lose focus if the ball my contact suffers, So I can't determine check points on the fly during the swing..I guess I'm one of many that will just have to accept the errors and just be satisfied with bogey golf, for I'm 62 yrs old, have trifocals rather than single visions as I did in my youth and can't focus at peripheral and my swing speed I can control is a out 80mph, so distance with long irons suffers greatly, but oddly my driver and woods are still 200-230yrds depending on the day..I've been chasing distance with my irons for months and not getting anywhere, it's all mental for sure, just time to accept it and just have fun..I sooo envy watching people either on the course or at the range that can hit them pure and far..I used to hit them far as well..
Well chasing distance is an issue if you don't know what you are doing to get it. If you try to hit with the arms you will hit the ball everywhere. So turning the arms off is a huge key. Sounds like you are working on positions throughout your swing. I teach grip and set up. Then 2 positions by the time you hit the top of the backswing then two in the follow through. I no way do I teach anything through impact other than to not hit with the arms so you may want to think like that. If you are thinking of all sorts of positions throughout the swing that is not the way to work on it. I would be doing 3-5 practice swings repeating what I am working on then I would hit 1 ball. Then do it again for about a month. In other words, you need to repeat the new stuff so many times that you are doing it without thinking about it. So change how you are working on it and you can get it.
@@paulwilsongolf Well the range has finally reopened after over seeding, went to the range, started a routine of ball path alignment, 3-5 practice swings, focus on ball with only two thoughts, where I want to stop my back swing and what path for follow through, my consistency went from a 2 to a 9, WOW and I happy, I feel that I'm part of the crowd now, I have so much more confidence..thanks for the help..
So glad you got out there and tried it. This is what I want people doing. Too many people trying to hit the ball and they think it's over. It's not. Got to swing from point A - backswing to point B - follow through. Keep that thought forever.

You literally have saved my swing and have given me hope in my golf game with this one tip. I have never learned such a simple and invaluable tip in my life and career as a former pro golfer. I spent years playing with no problems in my swing, then I gave up golfing due to some non-golf related injuries and returned to the game a couple of years ago to find that my swing had left me and I was definitely coming over the top. After trying what feels like a million different drills from other videos, I came across your video (and drill) and it has already started helping me swing the club from the inside. Great video, I’m a 5 hdcp and my “death shot” is a straight pull 40-50yrds which I think is cause by an over the top swing, I’ve been trying to swing more at 1 o’clock but am still struggling pretty bad… I will give this a go but I know if I do everything right, my shot shape is a baby draw
Thanks. The pull is you starting down with the arms first. Trying to swing to 1 o'clock may not fix it because this is still and arms thought. You need to start the lower first. If so, your whole body tilts back. The axis (body) gets ahead of the mass (club) and you will hit it dead straight.
Where this need to compare all those coaches comes from ? Each of them bring something to the equation.
gabard jean-paul comparing is a useful skill to find out why something is the way it is.
Because he’s a Wilson. 😎

Omg...i have tried every & nothing worked. I tried this 4 times & I bombed it straight each time..This actually works ...it's crazy when all the other videos I watched never cured my over the top swing..Again thank you...
Yep, works like magic. I show my students all the time. Great job.

Sure, just don't jam it into the ground behind the ball. It is a place to look at knowing you are going to hit the actual ball. Over the top is you hitting with the arms it's that simple. If you are right handed and lean left coming down you will swing left. Need to angle back to hit the ball. Watch this first:

Fantastic!

So this is why the club shallows:

@@paulwilsongolf Thx Paul....hit balls for an hr at 1:00am after work and concentrated on just not hitting anything, some def improvement and a lot less work! Will keep at it!
Very good. People just have to try this stuff (not for just 3 balls though). Keep at it.
Love this tip! Did you try this with your irons Chris?

That's a good idea too. Just an added visual. This works for so many people. Literally withing a few balls then are hitting it incredibly well.
Thnx again.
Yes, this is a good one for sure. Once you fix your path for good check out my other videos to get a better feel for what I teach.
Good stuff. Glad you tried it. Fixing that over the top swing will be game changer for you.
Thanks so much... slice on driver cured.... been working on it for 18 mths, you fixed in 10 mins.....
Exactly. Curing slices is one of my specialties. Glad you fix it. Now the game can be fun.
I used this tip today while playing. I set a leaf six inches behind the ball AND IT WORKED!!! 250 to 270 almost dead straight. No banana slice which is my typical shot. I was shocked and my son was dumbfounded. Thank you
That's great. This is now our secret.
I went to the driving range today, and this is the only thing that works. I have been searching to fix my over the top for a while... I was hitting dead straight drives and draws today. Can't wait to hit the golf course! A+ - golfer from Canada

Paul I've been watching you since revolution golf days. Simple straight talking and makes difficult concepts easy to understand. I still try to touch my left knee with my right knee haha. Cheers from Scotland
Joe
Thanks for your continued support. I appreciate it. Simple is the key.
(But I do have swing position flaws including an eblow that wants to always raise up too high which may be part of the problem since it causes a disconnection and then since I'm not using the arms they fall really slowly behind.)
The other interpretation I've tried is, "have a white knuckle grip (or almost white knuckle) once the club gets to the top of the backswing" (but I don't know if I should ever let the grip get less tight again after that?) making sure my wrists are hinged at the top and that it's okay for my forearms to naturally tense up from having a tight grip as long as I "don't hit or help with the arms" on the way down and that my arms will just move into the correct places automatically due to me turning my hips and body.
Thanks. Yes, do what you can.

-5 first 9 holes +3 second 9 for the win...what im saying i got a 12 handicap so i feel for sure this comeing down to single digits fast hahahahahaha i love it...this is so effortless best roung of golf pain free i had in very long time my friends was like my goodness why you using so much club i had to back off i was bombing them over the greens by 30 yards swinging seem like not at all hehehehee i said i dont feel the ball i said feels like butter
Great. You are starting to see it. Single digits will be a breeze. Just stay focused.
I have watched so many TH-cam videos and tried everything to fix my slice. To be honest the tips in this video seemed like it wouldn’t help but I trusted the process and for the first time today was hitting it straight. This tip is legit magic.

@@paulwilsongolf I have played 2 more rounds since I wrote this original comment and I now RIP drives up the middle. No joke this has made golf even more fun for me than it was. I am the “banana slice” guy and it’s 100% gone. You’re awesome Paul thank you.
That's great that it is sticking. Stay focused. This is going to make golf a whole lot more fun (and save you money too!)
I just did this on the range and it worked right away. I've gone from a baby fade or slice to straight and draw. My misses hooked and I never ever hook. After 25 shots, I was able to realign where I was aiming. Oh, and the ball went 20 yards further too, I don't usually carry over 250 yards. About half of them did. Thank you.

Thanks.
They call it the game of opposites. So yes, it's counter intuitive. This is a great quick tip to get he right path.

Great tip Paul. Tried at the range today and hey presto, draw after draw after draw. Such a simple tip, don’t have to think about swing positions etc. Thank you! Now to take it to the course.
Exactly. I had this one idiot bashing me that it wouldn't work. Of course, he did so without trying it. People don't seem to realize this is 30 years I have been teaching this stuff. I only show things that are proven to work and you are proof of it working ... instantly. Good job.

This is a good one. It really does work instantly. If you can't get to the range just grab a 7 iron and do a few practice swings at home for a few minutes so you know the feel for when you get out there.
Thank you sir! This works! I’ve tired everything and this worked within 5 minutes!
Very good. This should dramatically change your game.

After taking this tip to the range I can attest that it is a great tip! I have even used it while playing by picking a spot on the tee box, then teeing up as this tip states and focusing on that spot while executing my swing.
Glad you liked it. Thanks. This one works great if I need to fix someone super fast.
Thanks for the video Paul! Im 57 and have totally lost my swing this year. Im so bad over the top that most iron shots come out like a bad shanks. I have been trying to no avail. Over the top is you trying to hit with your arms from the top. In doing so your whole body is leaning left. Lean left and you will swing left. So what would you do to get rid of it? Lean right. So follow this tip.

Hit it as pure and long ... maybe not.
Quite extraordinary results - thank you
Very good. This one is amazing for most people and its simple. Keep doing it and in no time you will ingrain the path from the inside.

It worked first try omg thank you straight down the middle absolute bomb thank you 😊

@@paulwilsongolf Sorry Paul, I think loose grip = not strangling the club vs Firm 😁
You can do this anywhere:
th-cam.com/video/GF7JQHr2hhw/w-d-xo.html
Also, if you keep doing it at the range you will be doing it in your swing without thinking about it. Like any change this can take days, weeks, or a month or so. Keep doing it. Want it faster? Do daily practice swings at home.

@@paulwilsongolf Thank you Paul! "quick fix" - good point - I totally agree. Warm regards - Patrick
Great video! Any recommendations for altering this strategy for irons?
Do the same thing. Others have had success with hit but be careful not to jam it into the ground behind the ball. It's a thought not reality. If you hit some fat then follow this:

Thanks so much. This works like magic for most people. Simple to do. You get this and your whole world will change vs. that over the top move. Keep in mind this is a quick fix. You should also watch these:

This certainly makes sense and is a simple and uncomplicated drill. Thank you.
It sure is. It works great. Let us know how you do.
Great tip Paul. It makes a lot of sense. Since the ball is a little farther back in the stance with irons, will this tip also work on iron swings? I think I swing over the top with all of my clubs (except the putter).
Give it a try. You need to watch the part about hitting fat shots. Same thing applies to iron shots too.
I will definitely try this. What is the expectation of this transferring from the range to the course. Is there a key tip to do this.
This tip has helped tons of people instantly. For the course you need to pick a spot behind the ball because you can't put the tee down. After you do it for a while it should take hold and you have it without thinking about it. If you hit fat shots with irons watch these:

Thank you. This is my favorite golf drill. This Is genius.
Glad to help. Get this and your whole game will change.
I’m truly grateful, thank you for sharing!
So glad you are getting back on track. I have taught many people in your situation who took a break and are getting back into it. Anyone in this situation will hit with their arms when they get back into golf. This is due to human nature. I talk about it in this tip:

I would try this trigger first: th-cam.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/w-d-xo.html then switch if you need to.

Hi Paul..thank you all the way from Australia..I’ve been struggling with a pull for years..I now find I’m prone to hitting my driver off the toe and hooking now..and suggesting on how to fix this?…Cheers from Oz.
This indicates a better swing and attacking from the inside. The problem is you keep coming out of it it. Work on this: th-cam.com/video/X_pF7x-OCXU/w-d-xo.html

Great video, I’m going to try this drill for my over top swing. How far should I place the tee behind the ball on a iron shot?

This and using too much arms are my biggest challenges right now. The OTT is soooo frustrating. I'll give this a try.
These are the majority of golfers challenges too. Not that hard to fix but you need to think differently. Do that tip and watch this one too: th-cam.com/video/KlffJzbskmM/w-d-xo.html just stay focused on fixing the over the top swing for now and relaxing your arms.
