This review kind of feels all over the place. That said. A correction: Season 6 came out after Magic Railroad. While I like that movie because of nostalgia, it is what caused Britt to sell her company. Season 6 and onward CGI and AEG included writing should not be counted among the writing of seasons 1-5. Between the Hit and Mattel eras plus being memed into oblivion. Thomas will never recover in the eyes of those outside the Fandom. It will forever be just that stupid baby show for the lowest common denomination audiences.
I couldn’t have put it better myself. If anyone who hasn’t watch the real Thomas the Tank Engine, they must watch seasons 1-5. Because that is the true Classic series.
I disagree. I think Thomas WILL recover in the eyes of outsiders. Like, maybe Marc Forester's movie will fix everything. I know it hasn't been produced yet, but there's still hope.
Fun Fact: When George Carlin was first brought in as narrator, he expressed nervousness at the fact he had no audience to deliver the story to in the booth. As bringing an actual child in was not an option, Britt had a teddy bear delivered to the studio, which became Carlin's audience for all of the voiceover sessions. At the end of George's run, he gifted Britt with her own teddy bear named Teddy Carlin, which sits on her piano to this day.
George Carlin actually wanted to do Thomas because he knew that it was easy to get famous being crude and obscene so he wanted to see if he could get the same level of success doing a children's show. He also was drawn to it because of how the show never talked down to the audience and he respected that.

Thomas was a childhood show, no, a household name. As much as I've forgotten, the show's style has lived on, I don't think I could ever forget it. It's well know because it's good, I'd say.
Thomas was the best kid show ever made back in its day, because it was made by a team who cared. Fast forward to today, its one of many kid shows, made by a team who couldn't care less. No one could have imagined the show would end up like this.
Good review, I'll say a few things, s6 came after Magic Railroad, Diesel 10 number is a reference to him being the tenth diesel introduced in the show, the BBC broadcast wasn't the first time a TV adaptation for the books was attempted, as before Britt came along a 2D animated attempt was made, by Andrew Louid Webber, in the style of 'Ivor the Engine', a welsh 2D animated show, but obviously said show never came to fruition. Nice to see a non fan give a positive review on the show. So many times non fans will just focus on the negatives of the show and say is horrible, when it's really not. As a fan I do like the darker stories, like 'Escape', which is why Oliver (engine) is my favorite character. I mean the way the universe works is that it's supposed to be our universe, but the only difference is that there's an island between England and the Isl of Mann, that being Sodor. Also in defense of the reboot it's not the worst, as some of the characters like Bruno and Kana are good and some of the music is decent to listen to, but I do agree it pails in comparison to what came before it. Also that movie seems to be still happening, most likely more info will come out regarding it when the 'Barbie' movie is released, as Thomas and 'Barbie' are both currently owned by Mattel.

Now this is a proper Thomas review, I love it. And the fact that background music and actual information about the show is even here is amazing. As a Thomas fan, your review is awesome.
I think the reason why Thomas & Friends worked was because it was different. The show didn’t limit itself to being “just a kids show” In its golden years, and made stories that appealed to anyone at any age. If you liked slice of life slower paced stories there were Thomas episodes for that, if you liked action packed thrill rides with big suspense and danger, there were Thomas episodes for that too. No matter if you like horror, action, slice of life, comedy, or sad type stories there were always Thomas episodes for those genres and the Thomas & Friends was never just one type of show for one type of audience and it’s characters, visuals, music, world building, storylines and so many other things together made this show a masterpiece and it’s a shame that overtime, people who didn’t understand the show started coming in and ruining what made it special and what once was for anyone of any age became a show for preschoolers and only preschoolers just like most other kids shows out there. Eventually they would try to make a big comeback around 2015, but the people who own Thomas now (Mattel) thinks that the only way this show will work is if they try to make it like other kids shows with no heart and no soul. Once Mattel took over the franchise they made it hard to find the new episodes and now Thomas is a thing of the past and a lot less kids watch the show now and everyday people won’t even know about the wonderful things Thomas & Friends did in it’s first 7 seasons and because very little people talk about it, it’s not as popular as other kids shows and doesn’t get as much respect as a show like Bluey. Even worse, people who read those news articles of Henry getting locked up in a tunnel forever and Diesels VS steamies conflict considered as “racist” (which only was a problem in the show’s darker years) is now making people who know nothing about the show think things like Sodor being a scary place where Sir Topham Hatt is evil and the engines are treated as “slaves” and if they aren’t really useful they’re scrapped, which obviously isn’t true in the slightest but because of the show’s lack of attention people believe it and it’s really sad this amazing show is being misunderstood by the everyday people, and the people who run show now. But then there are great videos like this that shines a light on what Thomas truly is and highlights just how perfect it was in the 80’s and 90’s and fans who do understand what Thomas is, and I think one day Thomas will get the love it deserves! Thanks for making this video and for reading this long comment!!
Don’t you mean the first five seasons? Seasons 6 and 7 both came out after Magic Railroad. Hence, they’re not real Classic series seasons. A real classic season has to be made before Magic Railroad. Especially when things are classic are considered to be made before the year 2000 obviously. Seasons 1-5 are the objective Classic series and should be the norm in the fandom by now.
Ok, one thing about the narrow gauge models... functional models of that size and smaller did exist on the consumer market, the problem was specifically fitting the eye mechanics in. For shots that had both the standard gauge and narrow gauge models in them, they actually used smaller 1 scale (1:32) models with fixed eyes designed to run on O gauge (32mm) track (which was actually very inaccurate size-wise to the gauge they were supposed to be running on relative to scale), and then a set of larger SM32 scale (1:19 on O gauge track) models with the full eye rigging for shots that would only feature the narrow gauge models.
I feel like Thomas's music may have unintentionally influenced Video game composers over the years. The music in the show just has the vibe of some niche Japanes RPG.
Thomas music is based pretty heavily on English light music, like Vivian Ellis or Eric Coates. And funnily enough, the music in Japanese anime and video games is also based pretty heavily on the same 20th century light music that inspired Thomas' music.

There are certain retcons the cgi series does that leads fans to just consider it a different canon but yeah it is all technically supposed to all be connected
@@rabbitgaming6968 Retcons by definition are a change to a previous statement, not a reboot that places the new statement in a separate timeline. Also even the Classic series had errors and retcons which makes it even more silly to remove the CGI series specifically
@@Kukaak true I forgot about that there are times in the classic series where that happened To each there own of course some fans consider it different
I don't know if you knew it but, they used smudgers face in an episode for an engine called Bertram. An theory is they took smudger alongside with Duke and restored smudger
This video was good. You should make a part 2 including the fact that Smudger and Bertram share the same face and that they used duke’s model, painted it brown, and called it Bertram and put the Smudger bridge.
One other thing with the mundane nature of the show is that, unlike the later CGI and 2D animated reboots, the Model Series as it's called treated the various engines as the heavy, powerful machines they're supposed to be, not as hyperactive, bouncy kid's show characters. In fact, they actually go out of their way to film wheelspin and slow acceleration under heavy loads - The Flying Kipper (which was my favorite episode as a kid) is one such example of this. Also, one funny thing about Thomas being childlike - of all of the characters of the original cast, he's actually supposed to be the oldest, being the first engine actually purchased by the Northwestern Railway and previously operating on the LB&SCR and later for the British military during WWI.
I find it alarming how you skipped over BWBA, because apart from half of the Michael White episodes, the brand started dipping in quality again. also, AEG just wants nothing to be part of the original series, except be a spin-off to cater to the next modern generation. The whole brand handling is a bigger problem for Thomas in recent years, under Mattel's scummy tactics.
Ok, so... the reason why the movie's plot was so confusing? It's because what we actually got was just what was left after they cut the movie's _original main villain_ out ENITRELY. RIP P. T. Boomer.
Smudger is alive because he’s actually Bertram. If they don’t want to work they done get sent to the scrapyard they will stay in their shed until they want to cooperate. There is absolutely no way to make TATMR cannon to the actual show.
I like this video a lot, you clearly have a passionate understanding of the material. Glad to see someone actually acknowledge that they let Henry out of the tunnel in the very next episode. However, I do have some smaller issues with whenever the show is brought up that I would like to share: In response to the “this world is f-ed” section, I think people misinterpret that the engines are fundamentally not human. They’re not people in train-like forms, they’re trains given personalities. Hence why they strive to be “really useful”; a train is built for that purpose and not doing it feels wrong to them. The racism allegory is kind of up in the air, but I think it’s more based on classism. It was based off of British Rail’s modernization plan, which was infamously flawed in cutting services and jobs, which is why diesels are viewed negatively. More of a working class versus upper class dynamic, but that’s just what I think. Finally, while I find the “this railway sucks” thing funny, I think it’s a bit overplayed. A lot of the stories, at least is the books, where based off of real events that happened on railways in the UK. I like to think that the railways on Sodor are pretty uneventful on most days, but that doesn’t make a very entertaining show. I’ve just had these thoughts floating around in my head for a while and never had an outlet for them, so this felt like a good place to put them. This wasn’t addressed specifically towards you, sorry if it came off like that. Again, great video!
Great Job on That Video!! I've always enjoyed Loving The Thomas Franchise since I was 2 Years Old and I still do Today!! You also Didn't notice the The All Engines Go Reboot of Thomas was kinda ripping off the Animation style of Disney Channel's The Ghost and Molly McGee!! Speaking of TGAMM, Can You Make a Review Video On Disney Channel's The Ghost and Molly McGee??!!☺☺😊😊
Yes All Engines Go it's literally the end of Thomas and Friends but at least there are some YTPs of it, remember the seen "James and the tree" the party were James says go away fits very well, that is the only good thing that came from All Engines Go. The 2nd reboot is just 🤬
Some fact=the episode flying kipper, that should make Henry dead, the creator want Henry dead, but the kid Will confused where Henry, and the creator make new design for Henry so kid is happy
The video is one year old now but i recommend fan films, like those from tines sensathe who literally made a F!cking 1 hour long movie and this year after freaking 10 years the second movie comes out of which i don't even know if it is going to be the final movie he is going to make.
Interesting take on Thomas. Loved seasons 1 through 7. NGL, the Hit era and Sharon Miller Era sucked ass! The Brenner era, made every episode felt like the classic era episodes, and even brought back dead characters. I actually enjoyed this episodes. especially the ones to teach real life railway practises, like Thomas and the emergency brake! Hated the BWBA Era. And the 2D cartoon makes me want to vomit up blood whenever I see it!
this show, was the definition of.. perfect. the shots, the sets, the cast of characters, like.. god damn they even included real events that happened in various locations around the world- seasons 1-5 we're in no doubt, the best seasons to come out of the show. and to think that they put their all to make those scenes pretty and calming, especially those night scenes.. SO AMAZING. then season 6-7 we're pretty alright. and then season 8-12 was worser ( except for the great discovery movie!! ) dude, sharon miller ruined the show as whole and i hate her for that- like, what the hell was she even thinking?? no doubt the worst script-writer in the show ever. though, the narrow gauge sets.. ARE SO GOD DAMN BEAUTIFUL, even the mountain road set! they freakin went so hard for a show with talking trains with faces. wilbert made a FANTASTIC series, that's why there was a community of fans that followed the show after- like dude, the flying kipper theme and the night train ARE THE BEST- the score, the shots, the orchestral.. EVERYTHING! also smudger is the TVS version of the rws's stanley, an american engine who ran roughly on the tracks. wilbert based him on the model that was so frustrating to work with that he made it into a god damn pumping engine in the back of the shed. there was also a few models created for the MSR by wilbert, i wont list all of them though. no doubt, my most favorite show in the history of my entire life.
Funnily enough, I prefer Ringo Starr's narration to George Carlin's precisely because he was my subdued and I guess kept that bedtime story feel. But I also grew up watching the Ringo shows so definitely biased! And definitely not enough recognition for Michael Angeles! He was the best of them all
As a fellow bnnuy, yeah this show is the shit, grew up with the HiT era, and somehow still like it today, there's just something with the show that stuck with me throughout the years, currently my favorite is toby, and yeah his theme can be a bop at times Oh yeah for smudger, the books version (Stanley), he was moved to a mine as a pump, he later had a stroke and flooded the mine
Wait until you read the book mountain engines because the story bad look out has godred the number 1 engine of the culdee fell railway, falls off the tracks and f*cking dies
@@worthybutter2004 actually when you see the scene where The Rescuers were trying to find Duke the old sheds were smugder was behind was completely destroyed (you will see in one scene)

In response to the “this world is f-ed” section, I think people misinterpret that the engines are fundamentally not human.
FUN FACT: Both Shows were Both animated in Canada Even Thou The Ghost and Molly McGee is stile an American Show!!
The 2nd reboot is just 🤬
What do you mean "at least there's YTP's of it"?
I know what YTP's are, but i don't get how that's good.
17:20 made me laugh way too much
What’s the narrations of Thomas with all those curse words?
Some fact=the episode flying kipper, that should make Henry dead, the creator want Henry dead, but the kid Will confused where Henry, and the creator make new design for Henry so kid is happy
The video is one year old now but i recommend fan films, like those from tines sensathe who literally made a
F!cking 1 hour long movie and this year after freaking 10 years the second movie comes out of which i don't even know if it is going to be the final movie he is going to make.
And the 2D cartoon makes me want to vomit up blood whenever I see it!
amazing review! -from fellow thomas fan,The Cringey J50.
this show, was the definition of.. perfect.
the shots, the sets, the cast of characters, like.. god damn they even included real events that happened in various locations around the world-
seasons 1-5 we're in no doubt, the best seasons to come out of the show. and to think that they put their all to make those scenes pretty and calming, especially those night scenes.. SO AMAZING.
then season 6-7 we're pretty alright.
and then season 8-12 was worser ( except for the great discovery movie!! )
dude, sharon miller ruined the show as whole and i hate her for that- like, what the hell was she even thinking?? no doubt the worst script-writer in the show ever.
though, the narrow gauge sets.. ARE SO GOD DAMN BEAUTIFUL, even the mountain road set! they freakin went so hard for a show with talking trains with faces. wilbert made a FANTASTIC series, that's why there was a community of fans that followed the show after-
like dude, the flying kipper theme and the night train ARE THE BEST- the score, the shots, the orchestral.. EVERYTHING!
also smudger is the TVS version of the rws's stanley, an american engine who ran roughly on the tracks. wilbert based him on the model that was so frustrating to work with that he made it into a god damn pumping engine in the back of the shed.
there was also a few models created for the MSR by wilbert, i wont list all of them though.
no doubt, my most favorite show in the history of my entire life.
Thomas and the Magic Railroad is pretty much not canon
I think of my childhood and what made me want to live in the world ._.
Funnily enough, I prefer Ringo Starr's narration to George Carlin's precisely because he was my subdued and I guess kept that bedtime story feel. But I also grew up watching the Ringo shows so definitely biased!
And definitely not enough recognition for Michael Angeles! He was the best of them all
As a fellow bnnuy, yeah this show is the shit, grew up with the HiT era, and somehow still like it today, there's just something with the show that stuck with me throughout the years, currently my favorite is toby, and yeah his theme can be a bop at times
Oh yeah for smudger, the books version (Stanley), he was moved to a mine as a pump, he later had a stroke and flooded the mine
Oh yes smuger is indeed very dead.
R. I. P
But yes he is very dead.
agugucord woke up
My favorite caracter is Oliver
My name is carlin why

I don't think it's that famous in his country.
Oh no people will think your a thomas channel soon this is already your most popular video

Smugder is dead, hes get smash by big rock,
No, he didn't. You don't know if he did or not. Don't make assumptions.
@@worthybutter2004 actually when you see the scene where The Rescuers were trying to find Duke the old sheds were smugder was behind was completely destroyed (you will see in one scene)
I'm gonna be honest: Even though i adore Thomas The Tank Engine (he was, and still is, a childhood icon, after all), i REALLY cannot stand the fandom. They're just so cringe in my opinion. You can hate me all you want, but i'm not changing my mind.
I never thought I'd listen to a twink rabbit talk about Thomas the Tank Engine
26:09 are those... fucking solar panels? On the roof of the sheds?
It’s for temu koko
