What i learned with usmc marksmenship coaches put me ahead of most in the world. Dead serious. Worked downrange and very well. When we went to advanced courses it became an extension of that learning. Army SF are simply some of the best weapons instructors on the planet. With a great base of knowledge from the start though. Its really like going to a top tier college, and an insane masters program. People outside the military miss the sum of the parts. But it ends with us fielding the absolute best warfighters on the planet.

Go shoot a competition and see how well you do. Those guys will fkin run circles around you. Go shoot PRS.. Go shoot F class. Do that and see how well you do. I have been shooting since I was 4 yrs. old. My first gun was a Daisy rifle that shot round cork bullets. By age 11, I was learning how to shoot a 12 Guage. ( I was a skinny little kid, and my Dad was trying to toughen me up.) At one time, I owned 2 deer hunting rifles. Now, in my old age, I am shooting an AR-15. It was so foreign compared to a 30.06 bolt or my lever action 30.30. Your's is the first video that I have seen to properly handle this wonderful rifle. Thank you so much for your training. It is very much appreciated. Kim Willott, a 2A Pastor and Certified Pistol Instructor.

I understand the practicality of the non-dominant hand C-clamp position, & I’ve tried it, but I still think it’s uncomfortable. Also, your profile increases which makes you a bigger target. Holding the C-clamp for long periods of time tires out the shoulder. Perhaps it’s just a matter of getting used to it. The AR-15 is accurate enough (remember, practically no recoil or negative recoil relatively speaking) to where the C-clamp is just an enhanced adjustment to control muzzle rise. Good to know all types of techniques though.

The body adapts to the C Clamp. I only used it for shooting. The more I did it the longer I could hold it. Now I use the fore grip to sling carry at a type of low ready. When I think I might be shooting at any minute I go to C Clamp. I can now hold C Clamp for several minutes at a time with no fatigue at all.

I would change my grip when on a swat line up. I was 2nd man in behind the shield and a arm way out forward made my body have to move to much. So I would use a closer forward hand grip still with thumb on top with elbows tucked tighter in. This is for close quarter residential entry. This also helped cutting pie around corners to not expose my barrel so someone could grab it. I am retired LE and ERT. I still have my entry long gun.

I don’t agree with the C Clamp. Your arm can’t naturally be suspended in that position for an extended time. Grabbing from below not only is more natural, but also keeps your peripheral vision clear.

The fatigue only happens if your arm and elbow are locked. I think you guys are not realizing he's not using a full-length rifle which is allowing his elbow to bend which keeps the arm from getting tired as fast.

Dwaine Short even with a full length rifle, your arm will be bent... especially when you correctly utilize the sling. In no situation is a c grasp any more effective. If you’re in the prone you can’t utilize the c grasp, you need an elbow beneath to compensate for the length of the magazine. You never create habits, that you’ll have to break.

I have to say I've had a lot of training but it's still good to go back to the basics. In this video I learned to drive the rifle with my offhand rather then moving the entire rifle to my target. It sounds like a small thing but my foot work as well as body positioning all changed some in a good way. I truly feel much smoother.
Now the C-clamp... I still don't know. If the whole point is to keep the rifle from flipping. I just grip my 9 o'clock rail and produce what I feel is the same result.
Thanks for the tip Mike! Good shit!!

I think a lot of the pushback on C-clamp grip, and I am one of those who has griped about this in the past, is that too many gunstore cowboys and tacticool TH-cam "instructors" push it as THE grip, the only one you should ever use. A lot of what we did was VERY tight-quarters CQB and vehicular operations where C-clamp wasn't the best choice because of the space involved, so my bias was formed against it accordingly, and it took time for me to get over that bias and accept it as a viable grip. Conversely, people who engage at longer ranges where the stability offered by the C-clamp makes it a far superior grip fell into the same trap of it be the best grip for all situations. There is a time and a place for most grips and stances, and I think the problem comes in when people (and again, I was one of those) get into tribal camps and defend their sacred cow grip as the ONLY one acceptable. That's where a lot of the criticism you mentioned that I have personally seen came from

Yeah, still waiting on those cybernetic shoulder replacements. What's funny is now I have a bit of an obsession with 308 rifles. Still haven't had the opportunity to fire one correctly though. I saw Colion Noir firing a full auto 308. Imagine "shouldering" that haha.
