Once I cleaned up my messy folders (I made a backup folder outside the monitored folders), this has been a nice feature. It's one I'd actually been hoping for since automated storefront scanning came out.
One of those really good features I wasn’t even expecting or asking for. It’s really handy. I’ve seen some really good updates from time to time. The last few months have been tremendous!
Thanks for this new feature. I would like two other changes to be implemented: the first concerns being able to locate (and highlight) the specific rom by pressing CTRL - O and not just opening the folder containing it. The second concerns the collection of roms for a specific system, so that you can select all the roms (e.g. Commodore 64) with CTRL -A and move them all to a specific folder or to the one inside Launchbox.
Would be cool to have the ability to change the default rom directory. From what I gather if you want to use the auto import feature in a different folder then you need to set up platforms manually first.
Is it possible to select which platforms has automatic import? There are several platforms that are a lot more complicated than just dropping in a single rom. This seems nice for a simple platform where that's the case, but I absolutely could not use this feature if it will mess up my more demanding platforms.
Are you able to list the platforms you feel are more demanding? The end goal here is to make sure it either works seamlessly with all platforms or not work automatically for the ones where it simply wouldn't make sense. This is already the case for the more demanding platforms, but we'd love to fill in any gaps.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC Sure. For example Nintendo Switch. .Nsp can both be a game, and an updated / patch (placed in subfolder). Any TechnoParrot-based platform such as Taito Type X, X2, Sega RingEdge, Ringewide etc. All of these imports are based on .xml userprofiles added to the Technoparrot folder. PS3 Eboot.bin files. Regarding this, I have actually separate folders from where PSN games are installed and blueray gamea are stored. Based on what I see in the auto-import feature, it can just import from 1 folder? Any Windows game. How would that work when there can be multiple .exe files in several subfolders within a single game? These are just a few that came to mind.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC 1st point: it inserts for me also all windows games, and I don't want my mouse focused steam games included for example. Also it always reimports deleted games. So it would be great to have a "delete forever" option as well.
Windows games is actually a different feature. You can find it under Tools > Manage > Storefronts. Your second point about always reimporting deleted games is covered in the video and shows off the setting you are asking for.
Thanks for the response. I can say that any platform that has a scrape as value of Arcade will not use the auto-import feature automatically, which makes sure we won't touch TechnoParrot and all the other ones you mention there. We are aware of PS3. The one game folder should import just fine, but the internal PS3 storage location will have to be manually imported. We will eventually be working on an emulator specific solution for this one. There's no Windows specific functionality for the ROM Auto-import function, as we have this disabled, so your scenario is already covered there. However, we have a separate storefront import that can be enabled/disabled independently from this one under Tools > Manage > Storefronts. Therefore, the only scenario you've mentioned that I can see causing issues right now would be your Switch one since you keep a backup copy of your update/patch files within your game folder. The obvious solution for now would be to keep those files somewhere else, we'll talk internally about potential solutions for that type of use-case though.
For situations where I don't want to see a rom in Launchbox but don't want to move it to a different folder, I mark the rom as hidden on the metatdata page.
Would realy like if I could choose the automatic detection per system or set folders. Especially the automatic detection is messing with my windows games.
I like the automated importing feature, but I'm trying to figure out how to customize what artwork etc it automatically downloads. It keeps downloading fan backgrounds and game title screens. I'd like it to only download gameplay screenshots. Is it possible to change this?
I didn't turn this feature on. But ever since the last LB update, it's adding adding from platforms that I'd don't want to play. I delete them, but ever time I relaunch LB, they are reinstalled. And they are not in my roms folder. I've had it.
I think this was discussed years ago and wasn’t done so to the job it would had to be to keep up with inevitable emulaters. Plus you can’t do anything Nintendo . Imagine when Nintendo had The recently Switch emulator in sight and thought what is launchbox thing.
I need to do this for CHDs but the issue is the CHD roms need to be on an external drive so I can't drag them to the main rom folder as it is on the C drive. Please help
The feature will scan what ever folder is assigned to the game folder of your platform. You can go to Tools > Manage > Platforms and then edit the platform you need to redirect. Then in the folder tab change Games Folder to the folder your CHD's are in. You can only do this for platforms already imported, and this happens automatically when you import games from a single folder using the ROM import.
I would definitely activate this feature if it could be done on a per-system (per-folder) basis. As it is it's just too risky for the systems that require more granular control of the added roms. E.g. full rom sets for which I don't want to have them all imported to LB or systems which have a non conventional single file rom structure.
Maybe this is a RetroArch issue but my bezels are doubling up for some reason on anything I automatically imported. I haven’t had much time to mess with it, so I’m sure it is something dumb and easy to fix that I am not seeing.
well mine seems to update as and when it feels like it. it;s not as instantaneous as this video makes out. In fact when its switched off i don't even get a prompt. So my question is if i have say 400 amiga games, how long should it take before launch box realsies i;ve added them? I'm not saying the feature work, I'm saying iit takes ages before it does anything.
Everything is great, it's just a pity that there is no option to ignore files, unfortunately it searches for additional files, e.g. in Sega Naomi, etc., which makes things messy and there is no benefit in deleting them from the list, as after an automatic or manual update, the files return to the list 😭
Sorry to hear. Actually if Sega Naomi is set up properly, it would completely ignore that platform from the auto-import feature, so it sounds like you may have something incorrectly set up. If you would like to troubleshoot, head over to the community forums and we can help you out there: forums.launchbox-app.com/ Also, as far as the deletion goes, we will never, by default, delete a file from a user's library. You could enable this option by going to Tools > Options > General > Allow deleting ROMs when deleting games, or you could delete the files that you don't want manually, and then run the Tools > Scan > For Removed ROMs
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC I see, hmm. I don't mean completely deleting the files because then the games won't work, I just mean ignoring them when searching, scanning in the roms folder or ignoring them on the List so that they don't appear during auto, manual scanning. Generally, a very useful auto import option, but unfortunately, due to the lack of ignoring files, the option makes a lot of mess and adds unnecessary files (even using the option to set the file as hidden in Win does not help) :( Edit: I Found problem: im blind hehe I didn't mark it V in force using mame metadata now LB see correctly :P
hello I would like to know how to change the interface to better enlarge and see my Rom list space if we can remove it on the left side in the options because I can't find how please help me??

What bout this feature and Steam, EA, Ubisoft modern games ?
If enabled LaunchBox can already scan your storefronts for new games on startup. You can control which storefronts are pulled from by going to Tools > Manage > Storefronts
Awesome new feature. Thank you for permanently improving. I have a question: Let's say, I rename some original rom files, e.g. setting "exclusive" in brackets to identify console exclusive games in LB. Would such a change be automatically re-imported too? That brings me to a feature wish. It would be amazing, if LB could detect exclusive games by itself and we could see only those, when the feature was selected. Any chance for a future update? 🎉
Oh wow, just found this advertised in a PC custom build vid on YT and this is amazing. I have a ton of ROMs with multiple emulators installed so this is great. A few of my ROMs do instead show a weird block puzzle game instead of the game itself - anyone encountered this issue?
This means that during the import of that system you may have mistakenly chosen the wrong core for RetroArch. Go into Tools > Manage > Emulators, enter into RetroArch > Associated Platforms. Find the platforms that are doing that and change the core to one that works for that platform.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC Quick response and thanks very much. I watched a few more tutorials later, i didn't realise that there were multiple retroarch cores and you could set each one to a different platform. Rookie mistake!!
Is there any issues running ROMs (Nes - PS3) from an UnRaid nas drive? After having my roms hdd completely die on me, I'm considering building a nas either UnRaid or TrueNAS Scale to store and play my LaunchBox games from. Has anyone done this?

so if i have the ps1 and ps2 nightly version right now it will add the games to it? not swanstation
Correct. Like shown in the video, it doesn't care about what emulator you have set, it's just monitoring your Game folder for changes.
