I bought LaunchBox/Big Box about 4 years ago, and it has been to this day, the easiest license I ever purchased. I just built a super high end gaming PC and am so looking forward to re-organizing my collection
Good job! Still waiting for an option to combine multiple filters to populate playlists (choose "AND" for multiple criterias, currently it's always "OR"). For exemple: show me games that were released before 1985 →AND← use more than one joystick. I think the best implementation of this feature was the Smart Playlist feature of iTunes.
A lot of us are still waiting for a feature that allows you to map your BB navigation controls on a "per controller" basis so that you could pick up any one of your controllers and navigate BB. It's been yeaaarrrsss. Maybe someday they'll get to usability and sorting stuff.
I bought bigbox a few years ago and it was such an easy decision - It's FANTASTIC. I have it on my custom arcade cabinet, it's *perfect* there is nothing else out there quite like it, it makes the experience. I'm stoked to see launchbox/bigbox coming out with updates too, it makes me feel even better about my purchase 👏
I have been looking for a good save manager for ages. I hope this eventually works with PC games. I hate that PC games save in documents, app data or in your grandma's outhouse. Especially because I reinstall windows frequently
Something like that would be great, but I highly doubt it will work with such games since PC games like that require editing configuration files to specify save file directories. Maybe something like that with some limited Steam support might be possible, since it's a bit more standardized, but besides that it would be really difficult.
I've spent so many hours trying to come up with a good solution for save files. A save management feature like this is definitely one of my favorite LaunchBox features.
Regarding Game Discovery: I'd live to have a filter to show not only games I have but games I don't have in any given list. Maybe present the games I don't have as greyed out or title only, in case art wasn't downloaded. The Game Discovery will be so much more useful (to me at least) if it serves as a game recommendation for games I don't own yet.
one thing to keep in mind, we already have a game recommendation feature. If you find a game you particularly like in the Game Discovery Center, you can click on it, click on View Related Games in the menu and see a list of recommended games similar to that one that are both in and not in your library. We initially thought about adding it directly to the Game Discovery Center, but the performance trade-off was just not there.
Happy to see updates. Any idea when you guys will add a feature in BigBox to sort or filter by star rating like you can in Launchbox? I'd like to sort the game in each platform that way and have the system save that setting so I don't have to manually adjust it every time.
Never heard of that Discovery Centre before. Any plans to make it so that we can display the contents from within BigBox itself (without coming out to the Options menu)?? Could we have a "Display Discovery Centre as Platform" option so that it would show up as a Platform in the list (or maybe "Display Discovery Centre as - Platform Category / Platform / Playlist" or something?). Great video as always - really like the way this is going with Saved Games too - keep up the great work.
Glad to hear you're liking the game Discovery Centre. It's possible to set the game Discovery Centre as your default launch view in Big Box, so that upon opening the app it lands on the Game Discovery Centre. It's worth noting you can also assign keyboard shortcuts to various views in Big Box (i.e Game Discovery Centre, Platform Categories, even ones like series or genre), so that you can quickly navigate between views without needing to back out to the main menu. Hopefully that does hwat you're looking for. Thanks for the kind feedback 😊
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC I didn't realise that! I'll certainly experiment with the keyboard shortcuts then and see if I can set something up. I don't like backing right out of BB to the main options menu as it "breaks the illusion" a bit when playing on my cab. So will have a look into your other suggestions. Thanks for getting back to me with those details. Much appreciated :) :)
but still just one savestate? I like RL's pause menu that shows you every save state available in the emulator, shows you a screenshot of it, and lets you save/load all from that menu.
Is there any way to group together different playlists in the Playlist tab sort of like in Platform Categories? You can see at 4:46 that most of those playlists are all just Arcade playlists. It would be nice to be able to group them together with a dropdown menu that can be collapsed so that the playlist tab isn't completely dominated just by Arcade games.
Cool new feature! It'd be awesome to have a compatibility indicator for supported emulators. Also, fixing some bugs on the Android version would be great. I can't get DuckStation, Drastic, or Lime3DS to work, and they're the best emulators out there right now.
Can save/state backups be configured to happen automatically? I have a NAS, and it would be epic to set my backup directory to a network shared drive and have my save game/state backups automatically maintained there by LB. Also, will Big Box be getting some hotkey/button mapping options to create new backups from a game's settings menu?
Forget the trial of Big bgbox, if you can afford it, wait until a deal is on. If you have the money to buy it, then buy it. If you cannot afford it then stick to coinops. However, I brought it, and I am glad that I did or 90% I am glad that I did.
I agree, but if they can't afford it now and are debating on buying it when they can, a 30 minute trial is not near enough time to get them pull the trigger. There are SO many things you can do. Something like, AT LEAST, a 4 hour trial will give them a much more informed and awe inspiring glimpse.
Hi there, the 30-minute trial is not a one time thing, it means each time you open Big Box you're able to test it out for 30 minutes, albeit with launching games and themes disabled
Hey, is anyone from he used you maybe Launchbox on one of these handhelds rp4pro, rg556, rg cube and now rg406v? If so, please let me know how it works and if you compare it to ES-DE
ive asked this a few times but just get ignored like this message i suppose ,i would like an option so you can add if you have this game as a physical copy so it shows up quite clearly you own it
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC i think one of the fixes (Resolved crashes caused by specific characters in LaunchBox file paths) might have sorted the issue of startup videos playing only some of the time, but i have noticed a new bug where when Big Box starts up, it will appear in the Task Bar, then disappear shortly after, but then you have to go in to the Task manager to shut it down before you can restart it. This only happens some of the time. Good work otherwise.
Thank you very much for the contributions. For the next videos, could you add Spanish subtitles so we don't have to translate them? greetings from Colombia
i dont like the free version. i want to try premium but not sure. the trial version without games or themes wouldnt make me want to try it. why not enable everything since its only going to last 30 mins?
Probably unlikely, they've stated previously it relies on too much windows specific features to port when asked previously. However they did suggest the android version may eventually become the Linux version.
So when are they going to fix the fact that it can barely handle 1000 games without slowing to a crawl on an NVME drive? Seriously, Emulation Station is free and handles millions of titles, with art, and better themes.
Spent a lot of money on this, and they don't fix critical bugs, that have been around for years. Just look at their bug tracker, nobody replies, it's just one entire click-bait by people writing code temporarily once a season, totally ridiculous.
They fix bugs like all the time dude. Every version has a ton they fix. Tell them the bug even through a direct message and you'll get a reply. These guys work hard
No bugs, bro, and if one does sneak in from its vile corner, the dev team is quick to fix. This has an ETAPRIME STAMP ITS PERFECTION!!! END USER ISSUES MORE LIKE IT...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I wish Big Box had quick access to setting like in retrobat.
Looks amazing, finally some way to centralize my saves, I love the Game Discovery feature too I use it often to play random titles. Awesome work guys!

Yes saves that’s what I’ve been waiting for !!!
Would love to see access to the saves from the plugin API. Any chance of adding an ability to get the metadata about saves for a given IGame?
How is the integration of Visual Pinball (and other pinball emulators) treated in LaunchBox at the moment?

If I understand correctly, you can use the nesting feature to do that within your platforms and playlists.

My only issue is poor performance in Big Box Mode when running Windows in 4K. Most themes are choppy.

First oh yeah go me. I decided to use Launchbox as my main front end due to ease of use, backing everything up and file management.
Still no achievements showing for Gamecube though...
