I don’t mind the cleans, I think they sound pretty good. I just wish they did more with their instrumentation. They have three guitarists, and yet they seem to be barely using them. It feels so static.

I hate to agree with that statement, but I do. I love Whitechapel to death. I'm about to get a Whitechapel tattoo in fact. The music isn't bad in my opinion but I'd like to see more solos and more technical riffs. It's their band, their music, and what makes them happy though, so I can't knock them for that.
@@corrosie888 I think some extra guitar work during the screaming parts would push the song a bit more than it already does. Then again, maybe this is what they were going for.

The Valley and Kin are two of the best written albums in so many ways, including lyrics, I've heard in many years. I'm very glad I found this band.
Phil is the only singer who can growl like a beast and sing like an angel at the same time . And that's why he is one the best vocalist of all time .

At first it felt like a Bring Me Home Part 2 and the the bridge came in and then it suddenly had this massive early Opeth vibe that caught me by surprise... damn Philly Bo really nailed this one that was really beautiful

I started singing it immediately. I thought it was a reimagined version of Bring Me Home. Even the beginning riffs are similar
I love deathcore and heavy gutteral vocals but the cleans in this are beautiful. I wasn't a huge fan of Phil's cleans in mark of the blade. Clearly though Phil has worked his vocal technique and now I want to see Phil in a prog side project.

@@kylewipert1976 I highly doubt it. Phil has stated before that he is heavily influenced by death metal whereas the rest of the band is mostly influenced by black metal and hardcore. One or two songs that feature clean vocals does not equate to turning prog.
Mr Mediocre I was honestly just messing around. Even then I don’t hear much death metal, black metal, or hardcore either though.
Phil's clean singing is fantasticly haunting! They fit the mellower parts of their music perfectly.

@@traceycampbell6973 yeah but I think he was thanking Bozeman because he wrote the lyrics and the lyrics are from experiences he and his mother had. She wrote in a journal and Phil found it, so he made this album.
There's just something utterly haunting about hearing "I'm not stable" followed by a painful scream...
This is an incrediblly beautiful song from a band known for live brutality, and it's refreshing to see Whitechapel evolve over the past two records. Can't wait to catch them live at Download this year. 🤘🤘🤘
This is how a great band progresses. Whitechapel can do whatever the fuck they want. Phil's cleans are out pain, persistence and torture. Fuck it's beautiful.

It's a true shame that many many people just come for the music and the fact that this has cleans, but never really dig into the raw and emotionally fucked up lyrics of these songs. THAT'S why this album is their best in my opinion. The raw and unabashed emotion and just anger and sadness and pain that these words shout out..I'm still here listening after months and months
I feel you, lyrics often go unappreciated, sadly.
The fact that pain is delivered so well in the album makes it one of my favorite albums all together, the valley is probably my favorite Whitechapel because of everything here

So this album is clearly going to be a concept album and i have been trying to guess the whole story is in a nutshell. Its about Bozemans childhood which is confirmed in brimestones description. Also in brimestone the whole song is about killing a person for some yet unknown reason and in this one the killer is regretting it and how it didnt change anything or fix the problem this murderer had.
From black bear i didnt really get much out of story-wise after quickly analysing the lyrics. Maybe someone else will

Samu Sammale a decent portion is about different personalities his mother had, his mother had 36 different personalities she wrote on journal and a doctor or whatever those people are called, decided she well had different personalities like that’s pretty destructive, Phil said something about this on a stream he did with Ben duerr, some of the song may have small writings from the journal his mother kept. I’m not too clear on it just what I heard from Phil

I really liked the riffage in Black Bear, simple but catchy, easy to listen to. This song may be lacking but I think that's sort of intentional for this song. It's a quieter song, it doesn't need huge riffage, this song is all about the lyrics.

Its like they wanna write dark music like their first album but also they are happy so let the mosh dance to it. The other two songs are not of much exception IMO.

Arguably one of the clearest scream vocalist in the scene. Phil's cleans sound WAY better than in previous albums, it's pretty nice.
