Thank you for fucking around so we could find out 🙏 I got a bag of fresh high dollar coffee recently that's just too light and citrusy, and I was wondering if I could bring it to a medium or dark roast, but after seeing this video I will just get some fresh beans!

I re roast ground coffee in the pan before I make it hobo style and it tastes fine. You should have roasted roasted samples at different heat using a laser thermometer and then waiting the 6 hours you said needed to be weighted before you ground, drowned and tasted it.

I appreciate your detailed roaster reviews. In this video, however, you demonstrated that reroasting doesn't salvage stale
ancid old previously roasted coffee beans.
Reroasting\double roast is an established procedure. In one variation, roast to first crack, cool, then 2nd roast cycle to second crack.
Local coffee seller offers double French roast coffee beans!

Butter roast coffee in VN and Malaysia is another related subject. Butter or other oil and sugar are added in the later roast stage? In Malaysia apparently the butter and oil are added in the reroast.
Butter roast itself is not recent. There's a recipe described the process in an 1870 Russian cookbook.

Wait, are you sincere in this test? You need to let it the beans rest for at least a day, some beans for several days. During this time the "burnt" smell will dissipate. Why bother going through your rigor of measuring everything preciously when you skip such a crucial step? The best coffee beans I've had with my french press was kicking horse pipeline. Even then it's a hit and miss. I tried local "freshly" roasted beans from a small coffee shop and it was mediocre. Incomparable to pipeline. Before this I tried all the cheap brands which I guess were stale. Eventually, I've tried "reroasting" some beans and it did help but what would've the same bean freshly roasted would've tasted like? No idea. Which was why I tried searching some experts on the subjects. Now why would I not use green beans? Because they cost more than a good roasted brand where I'm from.

Yes.. Improper degass process make it more creamy look.. And also the bitter taste.. Rest it at least 3 days..he don't know what he's doing.. The machine look new tho..

Just wrong! You can't brew fresh roasted beans they need at least hours if not days to rest after roasting. So NO! Waste of time on this video.

You should do slow roasting (I can see you roast at too high temp) and don't re roast to second crack point. Dark roast to second crack only when start with green beans, unless you have a pro roasting machine.

it's bitter because it's dark roasted. I also tried to re-roast my coffee beans much darker, and it went well. It has a bitterness in it, Just like what I expected, It's dark with bitterness. better than the sour coffee beans that I bought months ago.

... thanks, for the video. It is very helpful to the one of our org supportive products, the OZAV Coffee, roasted beans product, which we have very popular on the market. Though - with -re roasting we have somewhat better results and do it differently and - for a different amount, than you have had in the video, using that exact (raw) re-roast (up-roast) method. And in the terms of involvement with any coffee supply or processing, for any coffee endeavors - this will be always very helpful, for any lucky ones, to run into this very educational and helpful video. Keep 'em coming, and much appreciated, at our side, for sharing this :).

The first sample is sour because it's under-roasted to begin with. There's a difference between stale and sour. I'll take the darker roasted any day.

That foam is not because of dark roast, thats is because improper co2 degass. The bitter also come from improper degass, rest the roasted beans for 3 days and taste it again. Peace from fellow barista.

Took 14 minutes for the reveal, but you have saved me a lot of time. I had an expensive bag of beans that are too light and fruity for me so I was considering this experiment. Might be better to just mix it with some cheap French roast!

I was thinking about this. I guess the best thing to do if you want to use stale coffee beans would be to make it into a cold brew.

Yeah I was thinking this too, or at least better temperature control in an air roaster or domestic oven. I think it tasted so bad because he burned them. You can see how uneven it was.

You over roasted them. It would have been better to only do them for a short time to see if they improve the stale coffee or not. All you made here was burnt beans.
