  • In this video, we put 5 of the top Mavic 3 Pro filter sets on the market. Using methodical lab testing, we compare the quality of the density of each filter set using the 1x, 3x, and 7x lenses of DJI's flagship drone, the Mavic 3 Pro. We also test the tint and white balance variations of each filter to give you a better idea of which one is best for you. You might even be surprised that the most expensive set might not be the best.

    Wow, you just gave a Master Class in Photography! Thank you! I went to a photography school and I think you did a better explanation for light, tint, and the camera sensor adjustments than most of my instructors. Thank you for showing us where on the polarizer you found your best spot. Well Done!

    Dude! Great review. I would not have noticed that on the DJI ND 8 until I was struggling with it while airborne. Valuable review. Thank you.

    Thank you for the video. I actually bought the Freewell set and the Neweer set and just by my personal test, the Freewell performed better. Thank you confirming my purchase on the Freewell set

    That is thorough! Thank you!
    I've never used a filter on my drone (and barely in my 12 years of photography), so I will just be happy with the DJI ones since they were an unexpected bonus when I got the M3P. I am tempted to try a polarizer though, since I mostly shoot over the lake, and usually have to wait until later in the day.

    Thanks, now I am happy again with my Mavic 3 and glad I did not wait to get the Mavic 3 Pro. I have to use ND filters on the Mini 3 Pro, but don't use any of the Mavic 3 and am quite satisfied...

    Great review. I'd be keen to see a review of the Newer variable ND filters against the fixed set. Ultimately for video the 1x doesn't need an ND (generally) as we have the option to reduce the aperture and stop down with that

    Great review. I have used the pola pros in the past. The greatest professional results can be achieved with using the nd/pola. Especially when over clear water. It's a shame about the gold rim of this new set causing problems will probably go with the Freewell now. The position of the pola is not always the same. It depends on the time of day and the angle of the sun and the reflections. Maximum effects can be achieved when the sun is highest. thanks

    Great video. Did you experience with the NDPL filters when doing orbiting shots to have wierd effects in the sky due to polarisation?

  • @nightwaves3203
    @nightwaves3203 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I use the formula of wing it over mess around with filters. Being in extreme sunlight things change so much moving around on either side of high noon. In auto setting if sound effects were with the lighting setting the sound effect would be a sonic boom. Lighted to cloudy and rocky and green valleys to amber sunsets just boom.

    Awesome, such a detailed comparison, You saved me !!!. Leme explain how. I recently upgraded from Mavic 2 pro to Mavic 3 pro and was pretty excited to try the 3 camera system with the DJI ND filters. I think i started with ND8 filter and , 7X camera output was completely unusable, Besides, I was so confused to match the exposure across 3 cameras that I almost thought of returning the product. Then, I came across your video and i tried other higher DJI ND filters (ND16, 32 ) in broad day light. Then i could match the exposure of all the 3 cameras with of course little tweaking for 7X camera , as you explained. I was shooting in HLG for all three cameras and all the shots came perfect.
    So, thx a ton for the detailed comparison;
    By the way, if anyone is not sure between D Log M, D Log and HLG, i would highly recommend HLG across all the 3 cameras , as it's easy to grade also easy to match with your mirrorless color profile, especially Sony Alfa cameras.

  • @scott_thomas

    You should have included K&F's M3 filters. Lowest price and highest accuracy. Don't just stick to the typical 'drone filter' brands, there are several other great manufacturers that have been making great camera filters for decades. Also, how about the Copper frame bleed on the Polar Pros!? Hundreds of customers have returned these already. Great content as always though guys, seriously. 🙌

    I've just returned my Polar Pro vivid collection M3Pro filters. Unfortunately, when used with the wide angle lens the filters cause quite substantial gold reflections in the bottom corners of images. Almost like gold vignetting. I raised this with Polar Pro and they acknowledged it was an issue but said it occurs very rarely. Unfortunately, my experience was that the reflections occurred in every single shot I took, which is really poor.
    It's a real shame that Polar Pro seem happy to sell filters that cause this issue when used with the main wide angle lens. On their promotional video they say that they have designed these filters to be 'perfectly compatible with the three lenses on the drone' and go on to say that they built the whole system around the wide angle lens as that had to be perfect. Sadly that is simply not the case. They even went as far as saying that if they replaced the filter set, the new ones would be exactly the same.
    Would be interested to hear others experiences with the Polar Pro set.

      Hello!! I am having the same issue. When i have the sun in front of the camera i have the reflections in both down corners. I will write to polarpro. Did you get a refund? I am considering change and use the freewell. Btw one friend of mine has the same issue with this filter

    What about standard CPL?? We don't use ND's for photography!!

  • @JMan551
    @JMan551 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great content! How do you feel about being forced into PL for some of these options? Won't you have to bring the drone in to adjust if you are going for a different angle on a subject? I opted for the Neewer kit for my Air3, as I didn't want to fuss with the PL...perhaps I was too quick on the draw.

    • @PilotInstitute
      @PilotInstitute  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The PL can easily be turned off on those filters so it's not much of an issue. Yes, adjusting them manually on the ground is a pain.

    The Freewell is the best hands down and i did really like polar pro but they even lie on there site with the reviews i was one of the first to get them and they wouldn't let me leave a review which wasn't a good one, the polar pro aren't even professional.... If the light hits on a certain angle it ruins your video/ photos with gold reflections and completely not dependable if your a working pro. If you spend the money spend it on freewell.. polar pro are waste of money and the DJI ones are ok if you only want ND's

  • @youzoid
    @youzoid 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    excellent work! My experience using filters is that they vary a lot between manufacturers, in tint and depth, so it’s great to see a side by side.
    On polarizers, I do have an observation to add. The effect a polarizer has depends on the relative angle between the lens and the sun, so the ‘sweet spot’ will change depending on the direction of view and the time of day. My understanding is that if you have the sun directly behind you, the polarizer will have no effect, and won’t make the sky look dark at any angle. When the sun is at right angles to the lens, you can get the strongest effect, if you turn the filter to the correct angle. For light reflected from surfaces, different rules apply but again it is an interplay between the sun angle, the surface angle, the lens direction and the polar angle.
