i just went down this rabbit hole myself and found the original song. Your version is so beautiful and moving. I hope wherever you are you're still singing and discovering new music
Lyrics: Gaeilge ----------------------------------- English Crochfaidh mé seólta I will raise the sails 'gus rachaidh mé siar And I will go west Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little boat 'S go hoíche Fhéile Eoin And until St. John's night ní thicofaidh mé aniar I will not return Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat 'S nach breá í mo bháidín Isn't she a fine boat a' snámh ar an gcuan Swimming in the harbour Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh 'S na maidí(?) á dtarraingt With her oars pulling go láidir 's go buan strong and steady Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat 'S nach éachtach a' léimneach Does she not move with grace thar thonnta árd' over high waves? Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh 'S nach eadtrom í iompar And how sweetly aníos thar an trá she rides in on the tide Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Wow wow wow you two harmonized so well and when you two were singing the original and sleepyhead at the same time I lost it! incredible, very well done
@@quantaearth1 so Oro Mo Bhaidin is about a woman who sailed away from home and swore never to come back Sleepyhead however is about the acceptance of death, with the saltwater in the fourth verse being representative of tears and the lyricist calling the subject a ‘sleepyhead’, essentially being in denial that the subject is in a coma/dying and in the second stanza he mentions his beard growing long enough to reach the floor, waiting for the subject to come back but then realizing that the subject has indeed passed away and they’re not asleep
You both did a great job on the Gaelic pronunciation - fair play to you. Chomh maith le Gael!! Mary O' Hara was the original recording artist with this song many many years ago but worth checking out. Well done.
I love how you switch between singing styles and even blend together with each of your voices. This was really awesome to listen to, thanks so much for putting it up. :)
Hey! I'm doing something similar to this with a few local musicians from my university! Trying to arrange it, you guys wouldn't have any tabs or anything used to structure this wouldja? Love the guitar and vocals :)
Justus Mitchell Music hi! What do you mean by tabs? We pretty much figured out the guitar parts by ear/chord progression from the sleepyhead version. I had some sheet music for the words and simple piano arrangement
She was not flawless in her introduction, but unlike you, she actually had the courage to stand in front of an audience and perform. Unless you change your ways, this performance of theirs will prove that they have more spine than you ever will.

You did amazing. I’m Irish. Grew up with traditional songs (ingrained) your pronunciation was superb!
Lyrics:
Gaeilge ----------------------------------- English
Crochfaidh mé seólta I will raise the sails
'gus rachaidh mé siar And I will go west
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little boat
'S go hoíche Fhéile Eoin And until St. John's night
ní thicofaidh mé aniar I will not return
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
'S nach breá í mo bháidín Isn't she a fine boat
a' snámh ar an gcuan Swimming in the harbour
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
'S na maidí(?) á dtarraingt With her oars pulling
go láidir 's go buan strong and steady
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
'S nach éachtach a' léimneach Does she not move with grace
thar thonnta árd' over high waves?
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
'S nach eadtrom í iompar And how sweetly
aníos thar an trá she rides in on the tide
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
Óró mo churraichín ó Oh my little curragh
Óró mo bháidín Oh my little boat
As a fan of both Passion Pit and Mary O'Hara I absolutely love this! Wonderful!
Wow wow wow you two harmonized so well and when you two were singing the original and sleepyhead at the same time I lost it! incredible, very well done
Why isn't this viral? amazing.
Thank you! Feel free to share :)
This is awesome but odd that it's so upbeat considering the song is about acceptance of death
" the song is about acceptance of death" - please elaborate. I don't read it like this at all.
About the acceptance of death? I thought it was a song about a little boat
Leprechaun Master Shamrock Slims I think it’s the line that’s translated to “I will never return again” idk
@@quantaearth1 I'm scared shitless of little boats. Every time I get on one, I have to accept that I well never set foot on dry land again.
