There’s clearly a story behind this video and it should be shared. It’s not just them singing a song. This is Karinya Chen. A 15 year old girl who had battled terminal bone cancer for 5 years. She was at “Hospice Austin” and had tickets to go see a Florence and the Machine concert. She couldn’t due to health concerns. But the hospice reached out to Florence and was able to explain the situation and Florence came to sing just to her. With that being said this day was clearly something very special and since unfortunately Karinya has passed away. These acts of kindness are what makes this world so nice to be in and makes us realize how precious not only life is but how important something as simple as music can be to us in times of need.

I come back to this video every time I feel like I’m struggling or sad or angry or something. It makes me angry at myself for being ungrateful or being selfish. It makes me realize that I need to stop making excuses in my life for everything and do what I’m scared to do and work harder for what I want and be kinder and be nicer and be more grateful for everything I have.
That's really beautiful. I wish all the love and strength to you in all you do and wish to do. You'll be successful In whatever you put your heart and soul into.
I have watched this awesome video many times and have watched quite a few reactions to it. In my opinion there is one moment that nobody seems to recognize. At around 1 min 52 seconds. Karina Chen reaches out for her friend. Looking like she may be overwhelmed by what's going on. Florence immediately notices and sits down beside the young lady and puts her mind at ease. From then on Karinya completely relaxes and enjoys the rest of the performance. It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life.
Music is a universal language that transcends culture, race, religion and breaks the barriers between us. It is something we all can feel and understand and connect to. Through it we find a common ground where we can be united in hope, love and harmony with one another. This intimate performance might just be the very best example of that.
Florace and the machine are banned in a few Islamic countries for being 'unislamic'. Same with Beyonce, and Cher to name a few. Music isnt some cure to hate as we put it on a pedestal. Its just sound waves we relate to real world feelings and emotions. Sorry
That says something terrible about man’s religious beliefs though, not the power and transcendence of music. Anything that has the power to bring people together will always be seen as a threat by institutions, it always has been that way, and likely always will. And technically yes you are right, but its only sound waves if you’ve never been moved and stirred inside by good music. To me that proves it’s much more than just that.
1:50 is why I love this woman so much. She doesn't hesitate or break flow for a second, the minute she sees Karinya getting emotional she just gracefully sits beside her and takes her hand. I cry everytime. RIP sweet girl.
100 percent what I think every time I play it over and over and cry when I see her reach out scared....rip to this beautiful girl ....may god bless her and keep her by his side
She's like a nurse giving a whole different kind of medicine. When she sits with her and sings directly to her giving her this intangible gift. THIS is the power of music.
When she starts the feels and just grabs for her friend, and florence sits and holds her. Feels. I'm sure her family loves this moment and the rest of the world feels their sorrow and love with them
I am so happy she got them all to herself.. Smiles. She fought a mighty battle she deserved this. Thank you 7 yrs later as I watch Florence +TheMachine doing this while I sit on my hospice bed now. Thank you for your compassion & love for others and keeping it real and pushing it forward. It meant so much to her you could tell. I also love This song. I am elder I've lived such a full life. So next time I have a moment of self pity I will be thinking of Karinya Chen and how mighty she was at only 10 to take on the battle she did for a entire 5 years. God be with her family and her friends may she be singing and dancing in the heavens.
I don't know how how she did it. I would be breaking down so hard. This is such a beautiful moment and so impactful for both of them. I am sure Florence was full of emotion during this just knowing how she came for this private concert. I love her so much for changing this beautiful girl's life like she did
This song was recently in a movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and when the song played I instantly thought of Yaya. She was so brave and beautiful, this song will live on in her memory forever. Thank you Yaya for creating this moment that we were all able to share, I hope you are resting well🤍🕊️
She died in October. She had got much better, she had left the hospice. There is an interview with her on a channel called xcan. She died in her sleep. She will be missed by thousands.
I'm normally quite the ice queen, but this has got me tearing like a baby, what a lovely and humble thing to do. Bless her, rest in peace little lady :(

The video is the story of a day in the life of Angel Karinya; being filmed by her loving Mom. (channel owner) Florence learnt they had tickets for her concert. However, Angel Karinya battling cancer fell too ill to attend. So the beautiful Florence brought the concert to them! Yes those dog days are over!
I've heard her say that too. I think like some other music artists (namely Freddie Mercury) the artist has a completely different persona on stage. On stage Florence is so commanding and bold but singing for just a few people she gets so nervous. I love her so. 💕
Yeah cuz shes the one we should care/talk about from this video. Not the girl reduced to skin and bones, confined to a hospital bed, with her life taken away from her.
@@jasajasason9640 it's a nice moment for the girl who is going through the roughest time anyone could go through. It's a good thing that Florence stepped out of her comfort zone to do something nice. Simmer down.

I watch this so much. As a mum, I love the mums response at the beginning; I can put on my phone... can you pick another one? She thought Florence couldn't sing what was asked but thought of solutions instantly. That's what we do as mums. My heart still breaks years later for her loss. I can only imagine and it hurts my heart with that. How she wanted the perfect moment for her daughter and got it tenfold. Florence made sure. Her daughter's loved ones made sure. Beautiful x
_Florence’s voice is truly beautiful. I can’t believe she’s so talented even when singing spontaneously in a hospital. Sounds just like the recoded version._

I got to see Florence And The Machine at Austin ACL. We had just suffered through sixty three days of triple digit temperature. When she started singing Dog Days Are Over it started drizzling, and as the amplitude of the song picked up the rain picked up with it. I had never seen a crowd so pumped dancing in the rain since Woodstock. Good on Florence for what she did here.

I think when you realise that this isn't a hospital, but a hospice centre, makes this video hit so much harder. The fact that she chose this song, it puts a positive spin on death. The pain is over. The dog days are over. The dog days are done. RIP Karinya.
I simply can't imagine being able to sing well enough to sound like THAT, sat on a bed in a hospice room but, that wonderful voice pales in comparison to Florence's wonderful heart. Rest in peace Karinya.
I recently finished a 5 year fight with cancer. I was 43 when first diagnosed, if cancer had taken me I would’ve been ok with that because I had plenty of years to live my life. I rewatch this video every so often because it absolutely guts me, I occasionally need a reminder that sweet, wonderful young people like Karinya will never get the opportunity I have. I hope to give back to the world for my blessings. I’m pursuing a nursing degree. I like to think that Karinya will be watching as I go forth to help people.
When she sat down and held her hand, it got me 😢 this was a beautiful video. The smile on the girls face even with everything she is going through. Beautiful brave strong woman 😊
I'm a fully grown man crying while watching this. and no, I'm not ashamed to admit that. sometimes simple displays of kindness are overlooked, so it was nice to see it make someones day so much better.
I work in adult oncology, this hits so close to home. I have had the privilege of being there at the end of life for several people. Sad, but fulfilling work. I'm grateful for every moment.
Yes, thank you. It's a vocation, I believe. As you say, what a privilege. I think that people who help us to enter the world and exit are very special.
My husband played this every morning and I hated it, but he passed away four days after we married. Now this song and this video mean more to me than you'll ever know. Especially now, as we met on Christmas.
I'm sorry for your loss, Tyrone. I hope you've healed a bit and I hope you can love another again. You're worthy of more love, kindness, compassion, and you're worthy of being held in someone's arms again. "When does a man die? When he is hit by a bullet? No! When he suffers a disease? No! When he ate a soup made out of a poisonous mushroom? No! A man dies when he is forgotten!"
I have a handful of videos that I watch when I need to get my head on straight and get some humility and perspective. This is one of them. Yes Florence is lovely and incredible here - but Karinya’s light also shines so gloriously. You can feel that she was a beautiful young woman and it is impossible to accept that she had to fight cancer and die so young. And yet, we all stand skin to skin with the shadow of death every day, though we like to tell ourselves “not me.” Deep down, we know we are always on the razors edge and that someday, it will come. And I don’t know if it’s worse to fight the long battle she fought - or to die suddenly having never had the chance to come to terms with death, get Your affairs in order, and say your precious goodbyes. What I know is that this video and the incredible people who made it happen, her hospice in Austin, her friends and family, and yes Florence and her crew, has brought Karinya and her light and her fight into the hearts of so many. She will stand as a beacon to thousands, even millions, for always. A beautiful frail reminder of our own mortality and how precious each moment is. Strip away what doesn’t matter. Forgive. Expand and widen your circle of love so that you have it to hold you up when YOU are frail, let go of your petty hatreds and focus your energy on those who love you back - adore them, revel in them, take time for silence and nature and yoga and walking - as well as time for adventure and fun and doing what scares you! And do that one thing you’ve been meaning to do to make the world better. Start today. Stop making excuses and take the first three small steps so that when your time comes, you’ve left a small legacy - you’ve made the world just a little bit better by being in it. Expand your kindness. Get crazy generous and compassionate. Don’t get bitter. Practice your gratitude. Breathe in your life while you are still fortunate enough to have breath in your lungs. 💛. Thank your Karinya for sharing your vulnerable time with so many of us. Your light will not soon be forgotten. You mattered. We honor your beautiful smile, and your short but important life. May the good people who knew you wrap your mother up when she needs it. For no one could ever touch the pain of a mother who loses her precious baby girl. My deepest love to her and to you and to Florence and to everyone who watches this video. Kindness is the way. It is the only way. 💛

It makes me realize that I need to stop making excuses in my life for everything and do what I’m scared to do and work harder for what I want and be kinder and be nicer and be more grateful for everything I have.
Amen so true
I guess we all the same....this video is beautiful ...florence and the girl...I just keep watching this video when life brings me down to my knees
Well spoken good luck
That's really beautiful. I wish all the love and strength to you in all you do and wish to do. You'll be successful In whatever you put your heart and soul into.
Same. I'm so grateful for this video
Roger Moreno some say music is evil
Black White you’re really missing the point here
@@RainyRunningRiver would say that is true. But music is great. 2% of people in the world don't feel emotion when listening to music
When she sat down and held her hand..My heart ❤️😭
1:50 is why I love this woman so much. She doesn't hesitate or break flow for a second, the minute she sees Karinya getting emotional she just gracefully sits beside her and takes her hand. I cry everytime. RIP sweet girl.
Dean Polizos I never noticed that! Wow!!!
Dean Polizos exactly what caught my eye , she’s very sweet 💜💜
Very kind of her
100 percent what I think every time I play it over and over and cry when I see her reach out scared....rip to this beautiful girl ....may god bless her and keep her by his side
The fact Florence didn’t hold back at all. She performed just as she would in front of huge festival crowd just for her ❤
She's like a nurse giving a whole different kind of medicine. When she sits with her and sings directly to her giving her this intangible gift. THIS is the power of music.
The lyrics are so beautiful. It was almost as of the song was setting her soul free.
yes.....
Hlo
Yes. One version treats symptoms. The other HEALS.
She's like a doctor.
When she starts the feels and just grabs for her friend, and florence sits and holds her. Feels. I'm sure her family loves this moment and the rest of the world feels their sorrow and love with them

This little girl needed to hear THIS song.....
I love her so much for changing this beautiful girl's life like she did
I think she got a little shaky when the girl started to cry but she knew she had to keep singing and doing her best because it was important.
Florence was amazing. Her lyrics are wonderful as well so, when she's singing, shes singing directly to your soul and spreading positivity and love.
This song was recently in a movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and when the song played I instantly thought of Yaya. She was so brave and beautiful, this song will live on in her memory forever. Thank you Yaya for creating this moment that we were all able to share, I hope you are resting well🤍🕊️
Not many people know she did this and I hope people find it after seeing the movie :')

Florence says in interviews she gets nervous performing for small groups so she stepped out of her comfort zone for this too 🥺
I've heard her say that too. I think like some other music artists (namely Freddie Mercury) the artist has a completely different persona on stage. On stage Florence is so commanding and bold but singing for just a few people she gets so nervous. I love her so. 💕
She's definitely built for a big venue.
I watched a video of her with a symphony orchestra and she tore the roof off.
Yeah cuz shes the one we should care/talk about from this video. Not the girl reduced to skin and bones, confined to a hospital bed, with her life taken away from her.

I got to see Florence And The Machine at Austin ACL. We had just suffered through sixty three days of triple digit temperature. When she started singing Dog Days Are Over it started drizzling, and as the amplitude of the song picked up the rain picked up with it. 💛
