Wheel locks do absolutely nothing to stop thievery lol. All they need to do is have a slightly larger socket than the wheel lock, and hammer it on. It'll have enough friction to break loose when using a breaker bar.

You will see those wheels on an older crv pretty soon . I’m from NYC here I see in the week about 4 cars with wheels gone . They be hitting the CRV. Toyota Highlander Acura SUV . And accords and civics . But from what I noticed CRV and Highlanders are like hot bread over here . There’s no guarantees that wheels locks will prevent it but at least you should put 2 set of locks . Maybe that will discourage them and move on to the next easy victim. When I lived there back in 77., if you park at some spot like Temple U main campus, the full OEM full hub cap theft ($100.00) value in 10 minutes was a normal. The police will not take a report since the answer was "we did not do the hub cap". The broken in by cracking in the side door window (cost $75.00) for hanging ordainment that cost $5.00 was also very common back in the 70's.
Back like 10 years ago there was a Auto Glass place who hired a person to break car windows to make money off the neighborhood cars and the owner was caught. it can happen anywhere. BEWARE. it's happening here in the NYC Bronx area.
Bottom line. Theft punishment need to be tougher. For theft like this it should be one year in jail mandatory and payback the cost to the victim. i work at a honda dealer, never seen a tow truck drive dumb enough to tow in a car like that before. they make these narrow temporary wheels with multiple bolt patterns just for this purpose.
It's happening because young drivers are crashing and the insurance can't find OEM replacements because manufacturers don't make replacement parts for the first year. Or someone can't afford new tires so they steal them. Get wheel locks and an aftermarket alarm with a tilt sensor

I've been told by NYPD that these wheels get shipped internationally (like Dominican Republic), end up in Corona chop shops, or get purchased by someone who wants to modify their 2005 Accord. No matter where you live, if you own a Honda, wheel locks are essential!

The best way to move the car is to actually bring 4 wheels, even if only those temporary ones and put them on the car, then tow it to the wheel/tire shop for proper replacement.

There are three issues here. First the stolen wheels and tires. Second, the damage caused by dropping the car on milk crates. And finally, the damage caused by loading the vehicle on a rollback. The major damage was the way the door was crunched by being dropped on the milk crate. And that was not even mentioned in the story. A set of rolling wheels and tires from the salvage yard could well be "only" a few hundred dollars. And would get the car mobile again. But what was done to that door is many thousands of dollars. BTW, jacking that car up to get replacement wheels installed, on the street is kind of dangerous. Even if you can get a jack under one corner to get it lifted, you are working in traffic. All it takes is one rubbernecker getting too close and you are in the hospital. And if someone taps the car while you have it up on a jack? Same thing. I can see a shop not wanting to do more than nominal repairs roadside. A driveway or parking lot, much safer.

Wheel locks need to be standard on all cars
There are three issues here.
First the stolen wheels and tires. Second, the damage caused by dropping the car on milk crates. And finally, the damage caused by loading the vehicle on a rollback.
The major damage was the way the door was crunched by being dropped on the milk crate. And that was not even mentioned in the story. A set of rolling wheels and tires from the salvage yard could well be "only" a few hundred dollars. And would get the car mobile again. But what was done to that door is many thousands of dollars.
BTW, jacking that car up to get replacement wheels installed, on the street is kind of dangerous. Even if you can get a jack under one corner to get it lifted, you are working in traffic. All it takes is one rubbernecker getting too close and you are in the hospital. And if someone taps the car while you have it up on a jack? Same thing. I can see a shop not wanting to do more than nominal repairs roadside. A driveway or parking lot, much safer.
Invest in some wheel locks. Problem solved

When you live in an area of higher crime you should have to pay more for insurance. That’s an incentive for the police to reduce crime, or leave the crime ridden area, demand your lawmakers do something.
Why didn't she just 4 spare time and tires to put on or donut tires 🙄 and then drove it to Honda and purchase new rooms with tires with lug locks .... instead of towing it and dragging it to flatbed truck....🤷🏼♂️

Thieves have no respect anymore. When I was growing up and the wheels were stolen off my dad's car, the thieves had enough respect to put the car on cinder blocks.
They did that so they can get their jack back, which was probably stolen😅
