    • @JordnD
      @JordnD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It would be nice if they gave you the option to open your inventory or close the chest.
      As for clothing, I think clothing should be auto equipped if Link doesn't have that area of clothing already equipped.

    • @V1Salvo
      @V1Salvo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JordnD
      Improvements I want to see in The Sequel To Breath Of The Wild:
      I would love if we could swap sets automatically. For an example, instead of having to put on the headgear, chestplate and bottoms everytime you switch sets, there should be a button (like X for example) which allows you to equip the full set of the clothing you’ve selected in the press of one button. E.g. click X on the Barbarian Headgear and it will equip the full Barbarian set. Or you can click A on it and it will only equip the headgear. This would save so much time of constantly switching sets for every activity. They could improve this furthermore by having some sets automatically equip when doing certain things. This would need to be an option though. For example, when climbing, climbing gear will be insta equipped. When fighting, barbarian gear will be insta equipped. When dealing with Guardians, ancient gear will be insta equipped.
      Or they could scratch the armour system entirely and replace it by character enhancements directly to Link, which work on every clothing item. There would need to be some sort of ways to get these enhancements. Maybe if you kill 75 basic enemies (bokos, mobs, lizals) you will get an attack enhancement. As you kill more enemies and bigger enemies, you will get a bigger attack bonus to your character. You could get a climbing enhancement for the amount of surfaces you have climbed and the duration of climbing you have performed. You could get the stealth enhancement by the amount of sneakstrikes you perform and the amount of wildlife or insects you catch. You could get the ancient enhancement by the amount of ancient sheikah enemies such as guardians that you kill. This would make players want to explore the world further, and constantly to engage in combat & exploration, just for the fun of unlocking new enhancements. These enhancements can all be put on at once, and your clothing won’t affect any enhancements which will give you the ability to customise your character as you wish, without having to give up your enhancements. The only thing that clothing should still do is give you more defence. You can keep the fairies in the game and they’ll continue to upgrade your defence stats of all your armour, but without any abilities or set bonuses (since those will be reclassified as character enhancements).
      To address the durability issue, here’s what I’d do. Whatever area you start in Botw2 (let’s just say the Great Plateau for this example). You will spawn in the Plateau with nothing as usual, however in the Temple Of Time, you will find a Rustic Master Sword. This will be a damaged version of the Master Sword. You can pick it up as soon as you leave the Plateau (or whatever tutorial/starting area Botw2 will take place in). As for the paraglider, you will start with it right away. The Rustic Master Sword will deal significantly less damage and break quicker than the standard version, however it will still recharge in 10 minutes. If the Master Sword continues to deal 30 damage in BOTW2, let’s say the Rustic one will deal half of that (15 if we’re going by my example - however the master sword damage is subject to change from botw). This sword will not be great, but it will prevent players from worrying about running out of weapons or breaking them all (which doesn’t happen, but it’s still a fear that players have).
      Another thing to combat the durability system could be the use of crafting. Crafting didn’t really exist in botw. There were a few people in villages that would all you to craft the champion weapons, but that’s it. In botw2, we could do this: have blacksmiths all around the world in different settlements, stables, etc. These blacksmiths would allow you to craft any weapon you have already found before, for materials and rupees. You can’t craft Ancient Weapons or Special Weapons even if you have found any before. Blacksmiths can allow you to craft any shields, bows, or melee weapons you have found before. Even arrows can be crafted via them, which can be more convenient than spending rupees in a shop for them. This would be a nice way to address durability issues, without making everything easily craftable, since they only allow you to craft weapons you have found before. Zelda won’t become a game where you have to grind and farm materials constantly. Instead, the materials will be accessible without the need of farming or grinding. Some will be rare, but just like BOTW, nearly all materials will be accessible naturally while exploring and fighting enemies (with the exception of stupid star fragments). They could introduce a whole crafting system, but that would ruin the game imo. It needs to be a fairly limited system, otherwise chests in shrines and around the world will become worthless, because you can craft any weapon anyway. In this way, Blacksmiths will only allow you to craft weapons you’ve found before (otherwise chests would be worthless, and exploring would be pointless since you can craft everything by farming materials all day - which is a grind and is boring). Zelda doesn’t need to be a farming or grinding game. It needs to be fun, and full of exploration. What’s the point of exploring the massive map of hyrule if you can just farm one section of it repeatedly to get some crafting materials? With this crafting system I have suggested, farming for materials will not be necessary, since you will be able to constantly get good weapons from enemies and chests, therefore crafting will be an afterthought for when a weapon you really loved has broken. Another thing that’s good with this system is that it stops players from holding on to weapons they like, in fear of never finding them again. With this system, you’ll be able to constantly craft those weapons again. As I said, there need to be some exceptions. Guardian weapons can’t be crafted unless inside a Tech Lab. Particularly good weapons such as Lynel, Royal & Royal Guard’s Gear has to be difficult to craft, otherwise no one would try to find them - they would craft them instead. I believe this problem is what stopped Nintendo from implementing a fully fleshed out Crafting system in BOTW. Botw was already a massive innovation and restructure to the Zelda franchise, so they didn’t wanna risk it by implementing a crafting system that had the possibility of ruining the entire game if not done correctly. Even if done in my method, there would still be some significant flaws, even if they aren’t instantly apparent.
      Anyway I typed way too much lol. Maybe I should make my own game instead 😂

      This summer it will be 5 years since BOTW was unveiled (in 2016). This Autumn will be 5 years since Switch was officially revealed (in 2016). In 2016, it had officially been 4 years when the Wii U was revealed and released (in 2012).
      Zelda BOTW released in March of 2017. Zelda Skyward Sword released in 2011. If Nintendo was to duke people into a new generation of their consoles with Zelda, the new generation of consoles they would have two years to do it according to Zelda releases. But considering that they abandoned the Wii U in just four years and the Switch is a success; there isn't going to be another duke.

When you pull out the hook shot, it shows you where are are aiming and if it hits any sturdy surface it turns blue but also shows you how much stamina it would take to get there. If it takes to much stamina it will be red.

What I liked with botw was that, even if I lost my save file or forgot to save, I could pick it back up and I’D be the one who improved. If we had xp, it would steal from the “you can do anything you want” and you wouldn’t be able to, for example, storm hyrule castle as soon as you leave the GP. It’s something I really loved abt botw! You can go seek out impa and get your memories etc, or you can just directly go beat Ganon. There wasn’t any “correct” option. Xp would make it feel like you need to do all those quests and I’d dislike that

    A couple things I really disagree with Arlo on:
    1. EXP: Zelda's not an RPG. It's an adventure game, closest in genre probably to the Metroid series actually. What makes them distinct from RPGs is their systems driven gameplay. Even before BOTW had complex physics and chemistry engines, earlier Zelda games forced the player to think about how to use their arsenal in a creative way to manipulate the environment. They then use these types of mechanics to amplify exploration and adventure. Combat is not the be-all-end-all, but rather a small obstacle, and sometimes a mini-puzzle in the process of adventure. As a result, combat strength should not come as the result of plain battling as in an RPG. Rather it should be a product of exploration, and often time, it should come with an increased range of abilities with which to interact with the world.
    2. The food/potion system. IMO this is one of BOTW's greatest strengths. Firstly, I think a mistake a lot of players make is that they conflate damage/health with difficulty. While they certainly can contribute to difficulty, I think the best difficulty comes from how challenging it is to attack/dodge/block an enemy's attacks. Having lots of available health replenishment does not damage the second aspect. Secondly, BOTW effectively lets players grind away their own difficulty curves. There were plenty of times I told myself I wanted to beat an enemy without eating food. When I did want to get past an enemy with less fuss, I was then punished by having to use up my food reserves, and then spend the time to replenish them later on. Fundamentally, eating is in the hands of the player, and I like it that way.
    Here is what I'd like to see most:
    1. More hidden abilities: It was genuinely disappointing not to get more runes after the great plateau. I really wanted to have the feeling of discovering new mechanics from new items as I progressed through the game, but that really ran out pretty fast.

    • @CitrusArchitect
      @CitrusArchitect 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are excellent points!! In the same vein of food not necessarily making the game easier or harder, I felt that “hard mode” making damage bigger to not be very fun. I would have preferred something like “enemies become much more aggressive”.
      As for the EXP, whether it’s invisible or not I would loooove a skill tree. The champion powers were nice but it would be awesome to unlock new things you could do in combat as you progress through the game.

    1. You were wrong about the map and just made a video on why you were wrong.
    2. "New terrain on top of the existing terrain" sky islands
    3. Yes more vertically, you can now go underground and fly up to the sky
    4. Surfaces aren't taller, but they added tons of new mechanics to easily avoid climbing all together
    5. Caves. Yes they added TONS of caves in the game with armorsets and bubblfrogs.
    6. No underwater exploration
    7. The underground is a "dark world" underneath hyrule that's the size of hyrule, but it's not the same as the dark world we see in games likes link to the past
    8. There's now tons of new traversal methods using the ultrahand mechanic with zonai devices
    9. The new resource used for zonai device traversal are batteries
    10. Crafting is a massive new mechanic with the ultrahand, fuse, and autobuild mechanics
    11. You get bomb arrows by fusing bombs to arrow
    12. You create a fire sword by fusing a Ruby to a sword
    13. Totk has the same hidden XP system from botw
    14. Orbs are still in the game
    15. You can make yourself stronger by fusing monster parts to weapons
    16. Easy cooking and eating mechanics are still in the game
    17. The new champions have cooldowns of a couple seconds
    18. No photo mode, uses the same camera mechanic
    19. There are more enemy/boss variety
    20. 152 shrines, entirely new mechanics, no gyro puzzles
    21. 4 temples that you can discover on your own
    22. Temples are designed after the region
    23. Totk has the same plot structure as botw
    24. It is dried up ganondorf, but you simply just have to get the master sword to seal him up
    25. The game is darker (the new hand monsters are scary af)
    26. If you don't count building vehicles and contraptions with ultra hand a sub game, there isn't a new sub game
    27. You can build a custom house in totk, but customization isn't that deep
    28. You rebuild lurlin village, but that's just a short 30 minute side adventure
    29. No playable zelda, she's a big part of the story, but not the gameplay. She only follows you at the beginning of the game
    30. It's botw 2, but with huge twists with the underground and sky
    31. Tons of mechanic changes and system improvements
    32. Tons of new stuff to do like exploring caves, building contraptions, and helping Patterson keep his sign up
    33. It developed the ground work from botw, botw now feels like a tech demo

  • @crow6054
    @crow6054 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i think my biggest hope (and one that i hoped would be in the first game) is that we can actually rebuild more of hyrule. i LOVED the tarrey town quest: seeing the town physically grow and feeling the sense of community growing along with it was so incredibly satisfying and really solidified the idea that hyrule may have fallen, but the people are still here and they’re ready to put the past behind them and build something new.
    i can understand why you feel that the whole food system might be kind of broken, and from a design perspective it makes sense to limit it-but as a player it made the game SO much more accessible to me. despite having hundreds of hours in the game, i’m just not a very technically skilled player. the only thing that’s given me a little more courage to actually fight some battles head on is the fact that i CAN just pause, take a breather to heal up, and then keep going. i know that getting a game over doesn’t have any mechanical implications, but it still feels bad.
    i think the solution that addresses most people’s needs would be to have difficulty/mechanic settings: for example, a hunger/fullness meter with options of (1)none, (2)can’t eat when full, (3)can’t eat when full & movement is slowed when full. i can think of other possibilities (decreasing meal storage, increasing ingredient rarity, increasing time/resource cost to cook) but those would be much more involved and probably couldn’t be simple toggle options.
    i think it might be neat if there was a recipe book where some recipes were flagged as “prepared” or something, where in order to make them you would have to complete some cooking mama-like mini game. like this, players could cook some simple meals with simple effects, but the best meals would be locked behind the work of finding ingredients, AND the work of actually preparing them (actually the more i think about it the more fun that sounds...)
    in any case, i hope it lives up to our expectations! fingers crossed 🤞🤞

    The idea of just bombing a random wall and finding yourself in a big dungeon is enthralling enough as it is, but imagine this. We've already seen traces of Lon Lon Ranch and other locations from previous Zelda games. What if, one day you bombed into a cavern in the desert, you walked through, pushed through some underbrush and came out the other side. You came out in a desert clearing of some sort and there was what appeared to be a giant rock in front of you. You circle around the other side of the rock, only to discover that the clearing is much bigger and the rock is just set into one end of it. Between the giant rock and the rest of the clearing is... an archway. As you approach the archway, you notice a small pond off to the side. When you get to the archway, you turn back towards the giant rock to see that there are stairs leading up to it, going inside of it. And the giant rock isn't actually a rock at all, but a statue. In the background, the distant strain of a familiar song starts to play... a familiar requiem.

      I was really hoping Age of Calamity would do that. I get that they wanted to do the fanservice thing of allowing us to play as the Champions' descendants, and I genuinely did enjoy playing as them, but the fact that it actually turned out that they actually sealed the calamity in this alternate timeline instead of having that foregone conclusion that the Champions perished and Zelda remained locked in battle with Ganon kind of disappointed me. Two of my biggest hopes echo some of Arlo's stuff. To expand on his idea of "just exploring and stumbling across a cave" I want there to be a whole underground network of caves and caverns to explore. Just this sprawling interconnected space where you find a cave entrance somewhere, delve into the tunnels, and could find your way to a cave on the far side of where you started. Heck mix in Arlo's idea of hiding dungeons and/or mini-dungeons in these caves as well and go the extra mile and make whole ruined Sheikah towns down there. Stuff them with stronger baddies and loot that can only be found in the depths and that would be great fun.
    Second, expand on the idea of Sheikah tech. Give us like, a Sheikah tech boat we can use to "sail" an expanded ocean out at the edge of Hyrule. Sheikah tech scuba gear so we can explore underwater without an air or stamina meter. Sheikah tech forges where you can combine resources to make weapons or enhance ones you've found. A great way to fix story in a non-linear game is to have smaller stories within the over-arching story. I loved the story within the Zora village but each other pre-divine beast section felt kind of weak.

      Problem is, almost EVERYTHING in Breath regenerates, so using consumables up to beat stuff winds up a net loss unless you get a better weapon out of it, which isn't going to happen once you've collected the best stuff. Nintendo is so deep in their hole they're not even allowing their games to have new abilities learnable after the tutorial unless they're only usable in specific circumstances (like the Sand Rod or Vellumentals), last time this was averted outside a remake was Paper Jam, and look at what happened to AlphaDream after that...

      Nintendo likes experimenting and that's a good thing, but using established IPs to run experiments is very hit-or-miss, and in the case of Paper Mario, it was a massive miss on several fronts. And even then, no amount of experimenting could justify giving all characters of each species the exact same paper-thin personality.

      Like we get so many gemstones that supposedly have magical abilities, it's weird not to use them in order to craft some elemental swords or arrows. The only time we "craft" weapons is at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.

  • @DaniPup_
    @DaniPup_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    something id like is making your own arrows using the horns/bones of monsters, the more you use to make the arrows the stronger they are, use 1 bokoblin horn and it'll do like 1 or 2 extra damage, use like 5 moblin horns and it'll do like 10 extra damage or something, and lynel horns are the strongest, and ofc bow's will have to do less damage so the arrows can be more powerful, then like you can infuse them with elements using other collectable stuff

    Having some traditional dungeons would really spice things up. They already have lots of good locations for entrances too! Mekar Island, one of the mazes having a "basement", the 8th Heroine Statue, Arbiter's Grounds, Bottom of Lake Hylia (like discussed in the video), and just for giggles, throw something in on that big plateau at the south of the Gerudo mountain chain that is currently unreachable. The fact it was on the map, but I couldn't climb the wall and go there DROVE ME CRAZY.

      Okay, hear me out: Zelda's power is actually the Triforce or some sort of power related to it and Ganondorf steals it from her when he awakens. Like in ALttP he makes his wish but this time the Triforce doesn't create the Dark World in the Golden Realm but instead transforms Hyrule itself.
      Anything will be possible that way and it'll be a fantastic finale for Zelda's oldest villain: Ganondorf finally gets what he wants - total domination. Until it is snatched away from him once more, of course.

    Edit: I feel I should evaluate, the cave is the size of hyrule itself and as you gain stamina you can go deeper and deeper with several areas having a big bad that looks like a sleep paralysis demon that you encounter many times, running and running away from it until you can kill it one day. If hyrule above is the exact same then we need the whole game to be focused under ground.
