      As somebody who avoided everything to do with Breath of the Wild before I played it (and continues to avoid full reviews until I finish enough), I can say the excitement expressed in this video is genuine. I felt like I was regularly checking-off a list of things that I always wanted to see in a Zelda game--and believe me, I've basically been keeping a list. I really enjoyed Skyward Sword, but I was left wondering, 'If this is what they can do with the constraints of the Wii hardware, what directions will they take with the vastly stronger WiiU hardware?'
      Breath of the Wild is clearly an experiment in bringing things back to the basics which inspired the original Legend of Zelda. Arlo is correct in expressing the satisfaction that came from discovering how to accomplish goals without the aid of a hand-holding side character, which in previous games amounted to a neon sign saying 'Goal Found Here!' Non-Zelda games, to this day, have a hard time reaching this balance, because they choose to believe that their audience can't handle a challenge.
      If you ask me, Nintendo has realized that anyone young enough to find their Zelda games too puzzling will look up tutorials on TH-cam, and anyone old enough to remember Zelda's past will enjoy the breath of fresh air. I find things that I would change for the next game, but I also find that my level of enjoyment from this game refuses to drop after a month.

    I find it funny that I found a completely different solution to the cold climate problem. I didn't even know about the peppers. I saw a torch, lit it next to a fire, and carried it with me up the mountain to keep me warm. This speaks volumes to me about how free you really are to explore in this game.

      Gabe Moorer random fact, did you know that until you activate the first tower, time doesn’t exist?? Yeah, I cleared the entire Great Plateau of monsters before my first ever night. Also now playing a non blood moon run. When you enter a shrine, you reset the blood moon to the next day. The blood moon eventually gives up. What’s cool is that it completely changes the way I play the game.

      I know this is an old comment, but when I picked up this game and my switch kinda late in 2019. I was just playing the game almost finished the plateau but had to go to bed. Then the next morning I see my friends with their switches they had since 2017 and they show me the full zelda map zoomed out and I just go like, “whaaaaaaaa ahahans what the heck”. I also saw them doing parries that made me go like “woah I got a lot to do before I can even try that”. Just wanna say my experience with the zelda series before picking up this game was Link wears green hood, he has sword, he saves princess zelda and there’s a ganon person. That was kinda it, this was my first zelda and damn it’s such a great game to be introduced into the series. Truthfully out of the 4 games I picked up along with my switch together, botw was the game I wasn’t too high on only because I knew almost nothing about it, I picked it up because of how praised it was by reviewers, switch community and my friends. Well the game I least expected to play became my favorite with 105 hours, 5x more hours than any other single game.

    The mountains and other scenery in the distance look muddy because in real life, the farther away something is the more gray it will look... it also kind of helps you distinguish between what is kind of close and what is really far away.

      Recently I have been reminded about how truely, truely magical this game was to play. This video, I find, ends up being the one that I return to most often. It brings a sort of comfort, like you said. It humbles me, and even if it has taken a while, to say that I am excited for the sequel coming out this year would be a horrendous understatement. Cheers.

    Literally, as soon as I got home with my Switch and the Special Edition of Zelda, I just stared at the boxes in awe. Kinda surreal to finally have both in my possession.
    And Zelda? alxwpcowocowocnqox. Wow wow wow wow wow. I was super hyped, but man, this game just took all my expectations and blew them out of the water. I haven't been this in love with a video game in a very long time. In a way, this game kinda reminded me why I love video games and why I love Nintendo. A game as special as this only comes once in a very long time. So I'm taking my time and enjoying every minute. Just incredible. Words really aren't enough to describe how much I love Breath of the Wild.

    The number one thing I loved in the game was when you get to one specific shrine that has to do with electric circuits, and you're supposed to unlock these metal barrels to use as conductors. I just took some crappy swords out of my inventory and used those instead, just because the game let me. It was hilarious.

      Toad Taylor One of my favorite things I found was with this high platform with a treasure chest in the middle of a lake. You could levitate a nearby plank to make a bridge... or you could use it to make a seesaw, drop a big rock on it and catapult Link onto the platform. Guess which option I went with.

    when is the full review coming? ever?
    my conclusion is that this is the best ‘video game’ in the Zelda series, but it’s not the best ‘Zelda game.’ I hope the sequel brings back some of the more classic Zelda concepts and elements, and maybe you can’t climb quite EVERYTHING, but the game is definitely something great.
    also, I never finished the game... I found over 100 shrines and like 350 Korok seeds, but I still have 1 Beast left, and the final boss... but it’s been about 6 months since I played. so, should I start a new game from the beginning, or finish out my old game?

    when you were talking about the game world looking muddy. The switch outputs in limited range RGB by default, I want to ask if you've changed the setting to FULL RGB range yet. I realise that you're probably talking about the contrast between realistic style vs the cell shaded style but I wanted to see if you knew about it yet. It's in the home menu under settings (not BotW settings but the Switch's system settings) and go to TV output, then change to Full RGB range (NOT 'Automatic', that actually uses Limited range by default if you use auto). The world looks better in full range

    • @XenoUnicorn
      @XenoUnicorn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Neary the main story isnt really all that great to be honest but this more than any zelda game before lives from exploring and has alot of side quest, and you are right there never were touch controls but there was a map on the gamepad and your inventory like in tp hd and ww hd and they probably cut it out to up the Switch sales

    • @Logos729
      @Logos729 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** ooohh, he meant Wii u version. They said they got rid of it because it detracted from the experience. And the story is still awesome, I love the two halves of it, the hundred years ago and current time. Dude, it's so insane to think that the game is about Hyrule being absolutely destroyed, all champions were killed, but link was reassurected 100 years later, and all the champions are looking to him as their last hope on saving Hyrule. And probably losing it after they see me trying to get to goron city through the heat using hasty food and healing items and running for dear life. Lol.

    • @sarenhar3945
      @sarenhar3945 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not assuming anything. Have you ever thought why does Sheikah Slate look exactly like Wii U Gamepad? Hidemaro Fujibayashi said it himself in the interview:
      “We felt that the way the Sheikah Slate is represented in the game and how we use the GamePad in real life synced really well,” said Fujibayashi. “So when we had to remove it, I did feel like, ‘Oh, it’s too bad we had to do that.’ And because it was so tied into the scenario, we did have to go back and redesign and rethink the scenario, which was a little bit [of] hard work.”
      Do not be naive, they removed touch controls to make Switch version look superior and to sell more Switches. This game was developed for the Wii U and was then butchered for the Switch. At least they did not cancel Wii U version.

    I loved the first cold area you encounter. I didn't learn how to cook, but instead I picked up a torch I found, lit it on the fire and had to move it around with me as I crossed the bridge. The final climb to the shrine was also really hard as I needed keep the torch lit or I'd die. Figuring that out and completing that challenge was very rewarding.

    Every other 3D Zelda game I’ve played I’ve had one big problem with it. Skyward sword was a bit too repetitive. Windwakers sea was too empty. I just picked up ocarina of time and I hope to get majoras mask and twilight princess, but ocarinas really fun so far. But man I don’t have a single problem with this game. I could think of valid complaints but they just don’t affect me during the game because it’s positives far outweigh its negatives, to the point where I’m not sure I’ll ever experience a better game.

    My favorite part of the game is the simple fact that many things can be solved many different ways. With that mountain example you gave I wasn't able to learn how to cook and instead used the peppers to just heal myself as I went up the mountain. Later on I learned how to cook. That variability makes this game a unique experience for each player.

    Congrats on learning how to cook all by yourself! It's one of many things that aren't immediately obvious (like in any previous Zelda game). In my case, I met up with the old man near the cabin on the south end of the plateau and he gave a few more-obvious hints about how to start cooking.
    By the same token, in the same cabin you can find a journal hinting about a Warm Doublet (clothes with +1 cold resistance) and I totally overlooked it.
