Lower caste people used to form and design their own temples and used to choose their top leaders which will represent their unions / caste, also there was no concept of lower or upper caste in ancient India at that time of Lord krishna , before the aryans came from Easter Europe long and long years after the mahabharat war to change course of hinduism vedic rituals and vedanta philosophy in the form of legal written form which is known as manusmriti .
Also common people supported and worshipped homosexuals and used to catch their blessings 🙏 for their family and self growth in future , some famous homosexuals also played a significant role in helping pandavas and krishna in mahabharat . Their names, powers, personality and characteristics are also clearly mentioned in our mahabharat textbooks and in their commentaries written by genuine ancient Indian scholars from the past.
Also There was no concept of toxic sex or talk of sex as taboo in society , as at that time there did not used to be internet, tv 📺 , smart phones, devices no porn, no soft porn in movies so people didn't hesitated to write, study, and teach about it to young generations students, it was normal like physics, chemistry, carpentry, medicine, math, astrology, music, arts and crafts, history, politics, economics. That's the reason kamasutra was written and studied without any such hesitation.

And from here Westerners tried to copy our style our fashion of revealing because in Europe in early and late 18 th century , there was not much difference between the outfits for both the genders , they were quite similar .. If you're really sure you're mother will be okay with it, then go ahead. But if you have any sort of doubt, it's best to be financially independent before doing anything like that. Also, choose the people you trust wisely.

Yesterday I went to get some veggies and there was a girl probably 20-24 yrs looking she was with her parents and they were looking really uncomfortable and awkward...they were trying to convince her "beta tum dekh toh lo ek baar...ladka accha hai...acche ghar ka hai...handsome bhi hai...dekh toh teri binaries bhi theek ho jaegi" I was like WTF that got my attention they were trying really hard....then the girl in the end got irritated and took out her phone and showed them some photos her and another girl...parents were confused (I understood what she wanted to say bcoz they were pics in romantic poses like holding hands hugging etc ) they started again on that boy and the girl was like "mummy pappa please how many times do I have to tell you I like girls! don't you understand GIRLS!!" The mom's face was red bcoz she was ashamed she was like "dheere bol log sunn lega toh kya sochengey" the dad walked away and then they paid for the veggies in total silence and went away......I wonder what happened when they reached home......🙃🙃🙃

Hey, I feel you. I'm bi as well and although my parents absolutely love me they don't understand about sexuality. Despite them avoiding this topic, I'm trying my best to educate them and I hope that one day they will come to understand. One of the reason why many say this homosexuality is against culture is because they are not aware of its existence in our culture since don't know what times.
Our job should be to talk about those tradition that was there in the past as much as we can. In fact this is mentioned and talked about in our religious text and there are numerous stories based on such topic.
So rather then ignoring ignorant and adopting western ways to create awareness we need our own ways which we already had to make it normal thing.
Stories drama dance(classical ones) religious tradition bhakti tradition(especially of guadia tradition) etc and combine it with today's social media. It can create wonder. Ways to counter various so called Hindu extremist group. Tell them stories of hara and Hari.

The unfortunate reality of the situation is the fact that queerness is inherently against patriarchy and its structures, something that Indian culture and savarna cis-het men (and women as well) has thrived off of for centuries, if not decades. It tends to challenge the structures around gender and society that has been deeply established that we are only beginning to unlearn, that too in the context of heterosexual relationships first ("allowing" women to work whether she has kids or not, dowry, the concept of not having kids, etc.) . It is a probable additional reason as to why Indians are also quite averse to the idea of other sexualities (and even other genders for that matter, though Indians have had more exposure to the latter). If India is to truly accept queerness as a whole, we have to move away from the patriarchal structures that have been imposed upon us, which to me would be a seismic shift in Indian society as a whole.
