Your best work is the realistic stuff w/out distractions like music. Enjoyed seeing you on dirty water for a change. Everything that reminds us of our own experiences, including getting snagged, helps to put us right there with you. But now I gotta develop some rock skills.
Hahaha the rock skills are next level😂 but thank you for the kind words! You’ll definitely see some more of this style of video coming this fall / winter
love the raw video, catching a clam is exciting for a few seconds too. When the rocked popped up, that is what I thought you had.... Thanks for sharing.
I love this video. I’ve always kinda had the idea that if the creek your fishing is off colored or brown you probably won’t catch anything. I appreciate it.
Super interesting to see somebody bottom bounce small streams. This is how I would salmon / steelhead fish a large river on spinning gear obviously. Appears to work well down there but we got too much wood in our smaller streams up north to even try it. Tight lines!
Anyway you could maybe show your flies and talk about your line setup for us newbies? Maybe why you chose those certain flies given the water condition.
Yeah I broke it. Then got a replacement rod tip and it didn’t fit right, in process of getting another one. For now I’m using my cortland competition series rod! And thanks!
Great video! I’m curious, when you’re nymphing like that, are you using a euro fly line, mono rig, or something else? I used both back before the drought, but haven’t decided which I prefer.
The water isn't too brown, just brown enough that the trout cannot see you! Great vid; I have been watching your channel since you started and were using the Redington Crosswater rig.
The best kind of fishing!! And WOW! That's a long time. That redington cross water was one of my first fly rods that I had for YEARS until I broke it in Colorado 4-5 years ago. Thanks for watching and supporting for so long!
Hey man new to fly fishing. I’m using streamers at my location and am finding it difficult to cast I see you cast with ease and make a perfect cast. I can’t as hard as I can and am getting little to no distance. Thank you
What type of jig was u using in the merky water. I'm from WV and starting to get into fly fishing but don't have much luck in merky water like that I'm unless im spin fishing
I’d avoid temping in that shallow dead water, it’ll be a considerably higher temperature than water flowing quicker in the main parts of the river/creek. Just will give u a more accurate temp
Really could use a recommendation where I could vacation with my family for a week in December to do some fly fishing with my father in law. We are novices and are catch and release only. Driving from SW FL, would like to stay under a 15 hour drive. Had a place on Watauga rented but not sure what to do now.
Yeah I mean I'm probably 15 hours ish from Florida (my parents live down in SW Florida) so it's doable. Most areas up in WV / Va (outside of SW Va) are looking good after the rain.
Are you feeling these takes with the finger the way you hold the line or seeing them on your sighter? I’m newer to tight lining and truthfully struggling with seeing the sighter. I’ve been dry dropper on indicator fishing but would love to cut the cord and just have a streamer dead drifting this fall!
Sometimes it's both. If it's a really shallow run I almost always feel the take, if it's a deep hole I rely on the sighter more. But if you asked the true tight line nymphing / euro nymphing guys they'd say you should rely on the sighter because if you're feeling the strike it's too late.
Nope! It actually set us up for spawn pretty well I'd say. We were lucky to be far enough north to not be nearly as effected as some of the places in NC and TN
I went scouting up that river when the water was low and in one of those big holes, there were 10 18+ brown trout. In the video you didn’t fish it. I have all the pictures to prove it
Nice vid up to 3:15.. when I had enough. No info on the type of Fly.. looks like your tippet is weighted, the way you're flipping it not cast..if you're gonna give instructions do it right .
@@hardmanfishing for sure! We've got some big browns here in Columbia in the murry tailwater. Definitely worth the stop, fall and spring trout fishing, smallies and strippers the rest of the year. Let us know! Even if it's a no content kinda trip let's fish! Tight lines man!

I recently started my own fishing channel, and you guys have been a great inspiration. This is such an amazing channel with incredible content!
That’s awesome! I wish you the best of luck
I learn so much from your videos! Thanks for sharing! 🙏
That’s awesome!! Glad you’re getting something out of the vids. Thanks for watching
clever tip about the net!!
Love the raw content. Tad, New Mexico
Glad you enjoyed it!
love the raw video, catching a clam is exciting for a few seconds too. When the rocked popped up, that is what I thought you had.... Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed this style of video! And yeah I've caught a few clam type mollusks before as well, but they're usually on the bigger rivers
beautiful river and beautiful fish!
Glad you enjoyed!
Beautiful fish at the end. Congrats!
Thank you!
A great video and a fantastic fish. So much better without any music.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll try to make more no music videos
I love this video. I’ve always kinda had the idea that if the creek your fishing is off colored or brown you probably won’t catch anything. I appreciate it.
That's when it can be best!
Enjoyed, even the rock catching 😀👍
Heck yeah!! I love catching rocks
Love this style of video. Keep it up!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Great day for fishing.
LOL. I got caught drifting off a little and with half open eyes thought your rock was a turtle. Nice brown BTW.
LOL that’s hilarious 😂 thank you!
The rain was an absolute Godsend!! Can’t wait for some fall brookie videos soon!
They’re coming!! Filmed all weekend and caught one of the most impressive fish I’ve ever seen
love those brookie pattern wet wading socks lol
I liked the part where you lost your net, and I was jealous of the part where you found it. 😅
HAHAHA you haven't had as good of luck with finding the nets that's for sure!😂
Super interesting to see somebody bottom bounce small streams. This is how I would salmon / steelhead fish a large river on spinning gear obviously. Appears to work well down there but we got too much wood in our smaller streams up north to even try it. Tight lines!
Yeah wood kills that type of fishing faster than anything! You really need the right bottom, which most of my home waters have. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video
So pretty over there. Great vid
Another great video, raw content is awesome! Makes us feel normal 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!!
I managed to land a small river rock in Stowe, Vermont earlier this year. Proud fishing moment. Should have kept it as a trophy.
Another great video!
Thank you!
I think I know that fork 😉 great little area 👍
this is my favorite type of video, just fishing and the sound of the stream, could be longer though🙂.
Honestly just didn't fish that long on this particular day! There will be longer videos like this though, don't worry!
love all your content but this is a truer representation of what a day's fishing is like
I agree, I kept a lot of the not-so-fun times in there as well for this video. Glad you enjoyed
Great video! I’ve actually hooked a rock before too and thought the same thing you did lol.
It's more impressive to land a rock than it is a fish!!😂
I always enjoy your videos, greetings from a still fresh flyfisher from Norway! One question; are you using a nymphing-line with a two-tone colour?
glad to see one from before the disaster hit
It wasn’t too bad up here actually!
Should have called this euro nymphing for browns in chocolate milk. Also, floating nets are a life saver at a lake
Anyway you could maybe show your flies and talk about your line setup for us newbies? Maybe why you chose those certain flies given the water condition.
Where is your Adams Xtz? Broken? Reparation? As always super video of modern style fly fishing. Congrats from an old hand of 35 year of fly fishing.
Yeah I broke it. Then got a replacement rod tip and it didn’t fit right, in process of getting another one. For now I’m using my cortland competition series rod! And thanks!
I enjoyed this video real fishing
Glad you enjoyed it!

I can't imagine what those runs look like after the remnants of Helene hit those streams.
Not too bad, I was there 2 days ago. It was actually perfect for fishing! But I'm far enough north that we didn't get impacted like NC / TN did.
A wonder you found your net 😂 I wasn't less lucky in 2021.. Astonished you catched fish in that trouubled river.
It was lucky that's for sure!!😂
The water isn't too brown, just brown enough that the trout cannot see you! Great vid; I have been watching your channel since you started and were using the Redington Crosswater rig.

Would like to hear you talk about and show the flies/streamers you use etc
I caught and landed a nice rock earlier this season. Not a keeper though. 😂 Great video!
Hey those rocks are tricky to land unlike sticks they usually come in more willingly
Well done! Only the elite land rocks
What type of jig was u using in the merky water. I'm from WV and starting to get into fly fishing but don't have much luck in merky water like that I'm unless im spin fishing
Wait how long is your fly line? Why are you down to your backing
Euro nymphing line
I’d avoid temping in that shallow dead water, it’ll be a considerably higher temperature than water flowing quicker in the main parts of the river/creek. Just will give u a more accurate temp
You’re right, but I just wanted to generally know what it was. I knew if that dead water temped good then the water with the fish would be perfect
@@hardmanfishing that’s a good point, u gotta make a trip back out to WA for some streamer fishing, get on some coho or stealhead.
Hey i’m new to fly fishing and i was just curious what rig you were throwing.

What flies would you recommend for the fall?
what euro leader do you use?
Was this from this past weekend? I fished in WV Friday and it was great, then it rained all night and creeks blew out and we’re chocolate all weekend
In the first 9 seconds he says this was from over a month ago. Probably from that bigger rain in mid August
@@daveofthewoods3133 You are correct. I think it was like Sep. 1 or 2.
I know you're a big believer in catch and release, but you should have had the rock mounted.
You ain’t kidding, that’s a real trophy 😂
can you go through your setups and flys?
you landed a trophy rock. hope hurricane didnt blow out your spawn waters
Nope! It actually set us up for spawn pretty well I'd say. We were lucky to be far enough north to not be nearly as effected as some of the places in NC and TN
I just bought a catch cam net with 2 handles
That’s awesome!! They’re great nets
What river is this cowpasture? I think ur from va to right
I feel you would like Fly Fishing far, FAR better.
Maybe not, I used to love to spin fish but my uncle took my fly fishing and ive never looked back
This is fly fishing?
@@patrickhelmuth3111 Just barely Fly Fishing...Tight line Euro Nymphing is just not real fly fishing to some!

having your net float down the river is never fun. especially when a fish is still in it..

I dunno, I don't find it as interesting as I used to.
