Elon: how would you even measure it? Answer: The impact of animal agriculture on global warming is typically measured by assessing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from various stages of animal farming. These emissions primarily come from methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide, each with distinct effects and lifespans in the atmosphere. Here’s an overview of the main contributors and how they’re quantified: 1. **Methane Emissions (CH₄):** Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to warming over a shorter period. It’s released during enteric fermentation (digestion) in ruminants like cows and sheep and from manure decomposition in low-oxygen environments, such as in lagoons or storage pits. The Global Warming Potential (GWP) metric is often used to compare methane’s impact to that of CO₂, typically over a 20- or 100-year period, reflecting its intensity relative to CO₂ over those timescales. 2. **Nitrous Oxide Emissions (N₂O):** This greenhouse gas is released largely through manure and fertilizers. Nitrous oxide has a high GWP-around 298 times that of CO₂ over 100 years-making it particularly concerning for long-term warming. Its measurement includes monitoring soil and manure management practices that enhance its release. 3. **Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) from Land Use and Feed Production:** Animal agriculture contributes to CO₂ emissions primarily through land-use changes (e.g., deforestation for grazing land or feed crop production), as well as the fossil fuel energy required for feed production, transportation, and farm operations. This impact is typically measured by calculating carbon stock losses when forests are cleared, as well as CO₂ emissions from machinery and transportation. 4. **Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs):** LCAs are commonly used to capture all stages of production in animal agriculture. This method accounts for emissions from feed production, animal farming, manure management, transportation, and product processing. LCAs provide a comprehensive way to quantify GHG emissions across the entire life cycle of animal products. 5. **Carbon Opportunity Cost:** Recent studies also consider the concept of "carbon opportunity cost," which quantifies the potential CO₂ sequestration lost when natural ecosystems are converted into grazing land or cropland for feed. This involves estimating how much carbon could be stored in forests or grasslands if they were restored. 6. **Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model (GLEAM):** Developed by the FAO, GLEAM provides global estimates of livestock GHG emissions by factoring in regional differences in production systems, feed types, and climate, making it a critical tool for understanding the nuanced contributions of animal agriculture to global warming. Measuring these factors allows researchers to estimate animal agriculture’s total contribution to global warming, which recent studies place at around 14.5% of all anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions
You should post this information in Joe’s comment section- to plant a seed of truth in that population. Surely, some people in his audience must have the ability to think for themselves and question Joe’s narrative!
@bonniek7228 I did, actually! A day or two after the episode came out. Didn't get too much interaction, but maybe more people read it and didn't comment. :)
The point still stands that it’s irrelevant when compared to everything else. Climate change is almost entirely an energy problem, which is more than 70% of greenhouse gas emissions. These numbers also depend on who does them, plenty of reputable sources have these numbers you’re sharing much lower.

'Lives' should not be perceived & treated as resources or 'for profit'. It's that simple #bevegan Here's the crux: There may be regenerative farming 'methods' but there is no regenerative 'meat'. There is no carbon sequestered, nor soil benefited, by taking animals off the land & into the food system. All the benefits that are listed for regenerative grazing are actually benefits of native ruminants, that are being ‘borrowed’ to fulfil confirmation bias. They are things that grazing farmed animals does poorly at great cost to the local environment, which native ruminants do well at a net profit to the local environment. If you take the beings who are doing the grazing out of their environment, kill them when healthy & in their youth, eat them, & replace with others on a rolling basis, you have just stripped the environment that you are claiming to help of massive resources that it can’t replace. For this argument to make sense it would require everyone that supported it to adopt a plant-based diet, requiring a tiny fraction of the land used for livestock, re-wild the excess farmland & reintroduce native ruminants. Congratulations, this is an argument ‘in support of’ rejecting animals’ current property/commodity/’use’ status. The ability for ruminants to graze, trample & poop does not ‘mandate’ that animals’ bodies & lives are treated as resources.
Here’s an overview of the main contributors and how they’re quantified:
Elon Musk seems to believe that if he's lacking the faculty then everybody else must be, too.
Thanks, ChatGPT

Humans are anatomically omnivores, not obligate carnivores, and plant-based diets can provide all essential nutrients with proper planning. I had a similar response recently.
You could’ve just refused the food. Didn’t have to tell them you were vegan.
'Lives' should not be perceived & treated as resources or 'for profit'. It's that simple #bevegan
Here's the crux: There may be regenerative farming 'methods' but there is no regenerative 'meat'.

Please stop funding the systemic exploitation of other species & flushing their digested body parts down the toilet at detriment to the environment, hence affecting all non-human species & all of humanity.
It's pure disinformation which panders to people's confirmation bias. It's an elitist stance - “Grass-fed meat is an environmental nightmare perpetuated by elitists who refuse to change their eating habits.” (Lisa Kemmerer, Eating Earth: Environmental Ethics & Dietary Choice)
‘Globally, over 70 billion farmed animals are raised annually, with their farming involving the use of approximately 73,000 tons of antibiotics and billions of vaccine doses to prevent diseases and promote growth.’

You do realize that based on an analysis of comparative anatomy, that the human and canine GI tract shows 85-90% similarity to that of a feline which is a pure carnivore. the human GI tract shows next to zero similarity to a herbivore. Dear Vegans,
🌱 When vystopia hurts and doubt whispers in your ear, drown it out with the sound of your activism.
🌱 You’re not defined by your failures but by your ability to rise over and over again to defend the innocent animal victims.
🌱 Each challenge you face is an opportunity to grow stronger and wiser and for your skin to get thicker.
🌱 Embrace the struggle, for it’s in those moments that you discover just how unstoppable you truly are.

12:21 yes, the Dunning-Kruger effect is so unbelievably annoying, and with the current internet landscape, people feel more and more comfortable believing they know better by doing "their own research" online, cherry-picking and misinterpreting data, buying into their own confirmation biases and not questioning themselves or assumptions and statements they are hearing.
How can we fight this _effect_ more efficiently? (Not necessarily putting the _main_ focus on fighting the disinformation itself, which might be becoming inefficient at this point.)
One way to tackle the problem would be to have a 3 strike mandate. If their podcast’s are proven ( by stated facts ) to be false, misleading, or propagandist in nature after they’ve been warned with 2 previous strikes, then their podcast loses their right to exist, & should be removed. Permanently.
The other option, is ban all political news ( left & right ) from social media platforms. Sports 🥎 is also an issue, you can never win anymore without “ you cheated “, or “ the ref was payed off “ chants that follow the end result, SICKENING it is.
