As a primarily sim player, I have to say that FH4 is amazing. Physics are realistic enough to feel like you are driving a car and you can apply real world driving techniques, but also are arcade enough for it to be fully accessible by everyone and to have some fun throwing cars off cliffs if that's your thing. That paired with the awesome open world map, great car customization and multiplayer make it hands down my favourite car game to date. The improved FFB over FH3 fixes my main complaint I had with the series, too.
Yeah it's really good with a wheel. The force feedback is good enough to feel the cars weight transfer through the wheel, something I struggled with on FH2 and FH3.
I know I am 2 months late, but I have to say I fully agree. I play mostly sims too with games like Assetto Corsa, and the physics here is still real enough to keep me engaged and use real techniques, but making it much easier and (in my opinion) more fun.
I turned a Rolls Royce Ghost into a Rally monster and raced it in dirt races in Australian outback in Forza Horizon 3. Brilliant handling tho. I miss Rolls Royce in Horizon 4.
I love this game. It's _pretty much_ all I could've ever asked for from a racing game. I personally grew up playing racing games, my favorite still has to be TDU2 (
I can say im a hardcore sim racer myself, I spend most of my time playing Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2 or Automobilista. I still picked this game up because its allot of fun to play. Dont get me wrong, a sim is fun as well but way more serious. This is laidback fun you can have on a sofa, instead of on your playseat with a steering wheel :P
A friend bought this game and I played it with her and I'm in love with this game now. Bought my own copy and now I'm already surpassing some of her achievements. :D

While I find enjoyment from different aspects of racing games, arcade or sim, you didn't present your opinions as fact. Very refreshing for a TH-cam video.
I'm 37. I stopped gaming when I was about 17-18. Was always just an average casual player. I got an Xbox to help me sit out the lockdown. It came with Forza included. I ignored it for weeks. I don't like racing games I'd say to myself. Then I had a mate over for the weekend and thought he'd enjoy that style of game as it's more energetic. Everything you say about Forza Horizon 4 is true. It's the ultimate casual gamer's racing game. We had so much fun that weekend speeding around fields in a Mini Cooper. We're from Ireland and our countryside looks similar to the UK. So we just imagined it was Ireland instead. Until a truly open world game comes I don't think Ireland will be an option in a game like this. It doesn't offer enough variety from a place like the UK. And I understand that. I'd like to see them somewhere really different next. North Korea maybe? Lol
Damn, i remember playing fable 3 on the 360 when i was like 12, first game that made me feel like i actually had superpowers. And the choices the game forced you to make... yep i want another fable
The last racing game I played was Burnout Paradise, but this game really does look worth picking up. I've read some good praise of this game, but I appreciated the deeper approach (and gameplay footage) of this video. Thanks, Matthew!
Horizon 4 certainly doesn't have the crashing and mayhem of Burnout, but it most certainly has the best open world for a racing game ever, and that is objective fact. The handling is tight, customization is acceptable, and it is overflowing with content and community features.
I've played this game for over 130 hours in the past few months, and I'll probably play it for another 130 more. It's the only game I've turned on since the opening; it truly does draw you in and whispers to you, "there's so much more.." Very entertaining review. Lol'd quite a few times. Thanks for it.
holybagpipes By the way people talk you would think Need for Speed under ground and most wanted were the original need for speeds. Which they aren't. There are about 6 to 7 games before those which you acknowledge, which is rare. Need for speed 3 hot pursuit, hot pursuit 2 and need for speed Porsche unleashed are my top need for speed games. Haven't played high stakes but I want to get my hands on a copy. They haven't made a hot pursuit since 2010 which I really enjoyed. They companies pander to the most wanted and underground crowds and completely forget about the hot pursuit crowd.
You guys are so right, i remember when i first played nfs 2 it was just the best thing i had ever played at the time. While everyone was all hyped about Gran turismo i was playing this game, ( until i played Gran turismo of course and became my favourite racing series of all time.) Hot pursuit i didnt like as much but high stakes but amazing, then porsche unleashed came along, and ive never played a nds game better than that, underground came close though. Even if your not a fan of underground/2/most wanted and carbon, those nfs games are all better than any racing game Ea has put out in the last 15 years.
Games as polished, beautiful and fun as this, make me want to buy an Xbox One ASAP. Shame us PS gamers can't play it, but I'm glad those who own an Xbox One can. Kudos to Playground for developing such an awesome looking game!

It’s on pc but it’s so buggy that it won’t even download the download just resets itself over and over again I can’t even download it and I have a really good gaming laptop Alienware 17 r4
I feel in love with Forza Horizon 3 on PC and am so looking forward to playing FH4 is a couple days. I am an average racer at best but the freedom to just pick a car and drive really appeals to me. Also they picture of you with your car is great it is a phenomenal visual representation of an apology. Great vid as always. RPS rules
wonderful review! Horizon does a great job at being available to everyone, whether they hit near misses at 350 kilometers per hour or have never played a racing game before. Can't wait to grab it and play!
My last racing game was Burnout Paradise and after that i took a brake from racing games because all the newer ones didn't really catch my interest until FH4 came out and i was completely mesmerized by it. My favorite type of races are Rally ones, they're not too hard like ones in Dirt games but they're still a lot of fun.
forza horizon 4 is the first forza games i've ever played and ITS FUCKING AWESOME i've play almost all of NFS series but when i touch FH4 i think its 100% better than NFS and enjoyable to play
Pulse soundtracks, seasons and the side missions being a stunt artist in super cars against jet planes lol, overall experience of playing this game is very calming and at the same time super fun. That strange love you develop with this game!
Playing Forza Horizon 3, I definitely think Forza Horizon 4 is much better. I personally love the new graphics/UI/whatever you want to call them and I love that you can finally choose what you want to do compared to enforcing you to do this, this, and this (most of the time) in Forza Horizon 3. I'm definitely going to have some fun in this game!

First game ive even considered pre ordering let alone spending $100 on. I dont even play racing games but after playing the demo, I was like take my money!!
Playground are up there with Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica in terms of presentation. I can’t wait to see what they do with Fable, if we look at FH4 as an example it will be a stunning open world with server side seasons and a shared world. Looking back at Fable 2 and 3 they were doing that in a sense anyway with local time affecting property investments and Peter Molyneaux’s lies of a tree growing over time.

I find racing games boring but my friend got me to get FH3 and I loved it. We played together on it for months and months. Looking forward to playing together again in our home country. Especially now I passed my real life driving test so I'm clearly the expert now...

Even Playground Games thought they couldn't top 3, and yet they did is spectacular fashion. I think we should just expect better and better games from them from here on out no matter how amazing their previous titles are.
Gran Turismo 2 used to play that all night on my psone smaller design with a attached screen plug in my headphones on it those test were really hard but I got all 5 license was not easy though 😉
The only thing that bothers me is how small the world is. Not long into the game and you'll have already seen everything there is to see. But on the upside, the world is filled lots of fun stuff to do.
Sharkzer rivals has been ruined, online play is only team based no solo, no Toyota cars, the game has sound glitches and frame rate drops on Xbox(not PC), the online scoring system that tried to keep people racing clean in 2&3 has been removed so the game is now destruction derby, and all the stat keeping that players would use to compare themselves has been removed. 3 is way better! I played 3 from the day it came out until the day 4 came out, almost two years. I've already stopped playing 4 after two months.
I am a pretty hardcore racing game fan, and one of the things I've always loved about the Forza series is its accessibility features. You can turn the driving assists up until you only need one finger to drive. That may seem like anathema to someone like me, but what it means is it opens up the game to people who wouldn't otherwise be able to play it. People who only have use of one hand, for example. Before they might need some kind of highly customized, finicky controller. Now, with Forza, they don't. It's thoughtful things like that that make this game great.
I heard a lot of disappointment about this game when it came out. I tend not to listen to the masses and form my own opinion, so I bought it, and I'm entirely glad I did. I hadn't played any FH games before. The graphics are phenomenal. The cars, the roads, and the skies look stunning. The surrounding scenery is solid, not perfect. The sounds are solid. The handling feels perfect with a controller. Sense of speed is spot on. When you're going 35mph, it feels like 35, when you're going 100, it feels exactly like 100. You can go from super cars to muscle cars to rally cars, and while they all handle differently, they're all controllable. The feeling on dirt is amazing. I'd love Forza to produce a game solely for rallycross. I watch a ton of racing, and I've played a lot of racing games, but FH4 is one of the most satisfying games I've played, and I'm surprised by that, because I prefer racing on tracks. I tend to play FH4 more as a driving game than a racing game, and I use the interior 2 view, and that makes it better. I do wish the map was bigger, and it'd be cool if the map included a race track or two to play around on, but it's a solid game overall. I'd highly recommend it to people who love cars, and there aren't many games that I'd openly recommend.

I have played over 700 hours of Forza Horizon 3 and the game got really bland and felt similar with everything you did, im curently downloading Forza Horizon 4, i am not hating on 3 as it was amazing and i still had fun at times. I hope 4 is alot more enjoyable, it definitely looks like it Update 2 days later: FH4 Definitely is alot more enjoyable the story is much more immersive, the gameplay changes as the seasons change it is worth the money!
And after you're done with the story in FH4 you'll be done with it. No way in hell you get anywhere close to 700 hrs with 4. The online is flat broken!

Zac Elliott there are tons of problems with FH4. It's laughable that so many people are raving about it. The sound sucks, sound glitches, invisible walls that slow or stop a car out of no where, Rivals has been ruined, online sucks, and all the club and individual stat keeping used to compare players is gone. There's no replay value at all because of those things. FH3 is better!
Im actually mad forza didnt put the 700 cars they had in motorsport 7 into this game, this is the perfect game to put as much cars as you possibly can into it

The best combination to have is to have a motorsport game and a horizon game. The motorsport games have better physics, real tracks and overall feel more real, but horizon gives you so much freedom and is realistic enough to feel you are driving a real car.
I play with a g29 steering wheel and the simulation setting does provide realistic handling. Transitions through different surfaces are well presented and force feedback has been improved. It's a perfect blend of realistic handling and arcade-ish playing style. It's a party on four wheels. Any sim racer looking to just have fun, but still be able to play with sim like handling will love this game.
Honestly thinking of picking up a used Xbox one for cheap just to play forza at this stage it just looks so fun to play and the cars are beyond gorgeous
Just started playing this game, loved the intro and I'm obsessed with the cross country, or just destroying walls for fun. I was never a big fan of drifting but found myself drifting for 2-3 hours straight the other day. Already sunk so many hours into it and feel like I've barely scratched the surface :)
The only thing this series is missing is the Life-bar style racing battles of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series. Add that, and this would be the best racing game of all time.

Get it on PC if you have one. Game is so well optimised, mid-range pc could even run this game at fairly high settings.

Playground are up there with Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica in terms of presentation. I can’t wait to see what they do with Fable, if we look at FH4 as an example it will be a stunning open world with server side seasons and a shared world. Looking back at Fable 2 and 3 they were doing that in a sense anyway with local time affecting property investments and Peter Molyneaux’s lies of a tree growing over time.

Gran Turismo 2 used to play that all night on my psone smaller design with a attached screen plug in my headphones on it those test were really hard but I got all 5 license was not easy though 😉

The only thing that bothers me is how small the world is. Not long into the game and you'll have already seen everything there is to see. But on the upside, the world is filled lots of fun stuff to do.

Sharkzer rivals has been ruined, online play is only team based no solo, no Toyota cars, the game has sound glitches and frame rate drops on Xbox(not PC), the online scoring system that tried to keep people racing clean in 2&3 has been removed so the game is now destruction derby, and all the stat keeping that players would use to compare themselves has been removed. 3 is way better! I played 3 from the day it came out until the day 4 came out, almost two years. I've already stopped playing 4 after two months.

I am a pretty hardcore racing game fan, and one of the things I've always loved about the Forza series is its accessibility features. You can turn the driving assists up until you only need one finger to drive. That may seem like anathema to someone like me, but what it means is it opens up the game to people who wouldn't otherwise be able to play it. People who only have use of one hand, for example. Before they might need some kind of highly customized, finicky controller. Now, with Forza, they don't. It's thoughtful things like that that make this game great.
I heard a lot of disappointment about this game when it came out. I tend not to listen to the masses and form my own opinion, so I bought it, and I'm entirely glad I did. I hadn't played any FH games before. The graphics are phenomenal. The cars, the roads, and the skies look stunning. The surrounding scenery is solid, not perfect. The sounds are solid. The handling feels perfect with a controller. Sense of speed is spot on. When you're going 35mph, it feels like 35, when you're going 100, it feels exactly like 100. You can go from super cars to muscle cars to rally cars, and while they all handle differently, they're all controllable. The feeling on dirt is amazing. I'd love Forza to produce a game solely for rallycross. I watch a ton of racing, and I've played a lot of racing games, but FH4 is one of the most satisfying games I've played, and I'm surprised by that, because I prefer racing on tracks. I tend to play FH4 more as a driving game than a racing game, and I use the interior 2 view, and that makes it better. I do wish the map was bigger, and it'd be cool if the map included a race track or two to play around on, but it's a solid game overall. I'd highly recommend it to people who love cars, and there aren't many games that I'd openly recommend.

I have played over 700 hours of Forza Horizon 3 and the game got really bland and felt similar with everything you did, im curently downloading Forza Horizon 4, i am not hating on 3 as it was amazing and i still had fun at times. I hope 4 is alot more enjoyable, it definitely looks like it
Update 2 days later: FH4 Definitely is alot more enjoyable the story is much more immersive, the gameplay changes as the seasons change it is worth the money!
No offense but pretty much any game will start to feel bland if you play for 700 hours
And after you're done with the story in FH4 you'll be done with it. No way in hell you get anywhere close to 700 hrs with 4. The online is flat broken!

Zac Elliott there are tons of problems with FH4. It's laughable that so many people are raving about it. The sound sucks, sound glitches, invisible walls that slow or stop a car out of no where, Rivals has been ruined, online sucks, and all the club and individual stat keeping used to compare players is gone. There's no replay value at all because of those things. FH3 is better!
Im actually mad forza didnt put the 700 cars they had in motorsport 7 into this game, this is the perfect game to put as much cars as you possibly can into it

The best combination to have is to have a motorsport game and a horizon game. The motorsport games have better physics, real tracks and overall feel more real, but horizon gives you so much freedom and is realistic enough to feel you are driving a real car.

I play with a g29 steering wheel and the simulation setting does provide realistic handling. Transitions through different surfaces are well presented and force feedback has been improved. It's a perfect blend of realistic handling and arcade-ish playing style. It's a party on four wheels. Any sim racer looking to just have fun, but still be able to play with sim like handling will love this game.
All the Forza Horizon trailers are amazing.
They should of kept bucketlists in the game and added stories.With bucketlists ,you could create your own versions.

As a hardcore sim racer i've had lots of fun with this game, Especially the the Rallying!! (i'm awful at drifting as well.)
Dodging and tricking the cops that chase you is a great feature!
Honestly thinking of picking up a used Xbox one for cheap just to play forza at this stage it just looks so fun to play and the cars are beyond gorgeous

Been watching various gameplay vids of this game nearly all afternoon for the last couple days. Now I want.
Just started playing this game, loved the intro and I'm obsessed with the cross country, or just destroying walls for fun. I was never a big fan of drifting but found myself drifting for 2-3 hours straight the other day. Already sunk so many hours into it and feel like I've barely scratched the surface :)
The offroad races with my Subaru WRX STI were probably the most fun I've had in a videogame in years
Very good review, always love a comical British guy, and it's always good to hear from people who live in the Forza locations.
The only thing this series is missing is the Life-bar style racing battles of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series. Add that, and this would be the best racing game of all time.
