Jicky is a timeless, ageless masterpiece. I think it's above and beyond gender. I love to wear when I feel a bit insecure or tense and I know I'll have a tough day at work I spray it and it instantly make me feel more serene and grounded and the zesty notes sharpen my mind. I get the rather baby pooey notes around 20mins. after spraying and soon later I get a blast of creamy, dreamy lavender. I love to wear before bed too. Very soothing.
you love jicky. you sprayed it and smiled. that is a definition of loving a perfume. It is believed that Jicky was some Aimes' lover but it is widely speculated that he was gay, I kind of believe it was named after Jacques (Guerlain), according to Monsieur Guerlain (where is he nowadays he has vanished) Jacques was partly the 'co-perfumer' with his uncle. I also do not believe the story about large dose of ethylvanillin in Jicky thus forming Shalimar. One cannot claim to be a perfume collector without owning Jicky in their collection. I am not familiar with the parfum but I own both the EDT and EDP. EDT is a waste of money it's a skin scent. (not a fan of skin scents here) I love the EDP, good longevity and medium sillage, a beautiful scent for either man or woman. love your review on this one. xxx
I loved the introduction to the review and the way you conveyed the notion of a fragrance that comes from a different era. The way you contextualized Paris at the time of Jicky's creation was very inspired and inspiring!!
I love guerlain , so unique these days. Jicky is one of my favourite ones and apparently Shalimar was created by mistakenly dropping vanilla into Jicky formula. When I smell Shalimar I do pick up Jicky notes.
My fav perfume of all time is Shalimar, followed by Jicky and L'Heure Bleue. I have the EDP in 50ML in the Habit de Fete canister which I think is a lightweight metal like aluminum, inside cap base (black part) is plastic and this year my husband got me the newer EDP in the Bee Bottle. I think this is a pretty unisex fragrance. Same with Shalimar.
I was always intrigued by Jicky. I finally got to sample it two years ago in Madrid. However it practically disappeared in less than 2 hours. Besides it reminded me of a lighter Shalimar, which I already have and love so I skipped it. Last year I went to Paris and Jicky made it’s dirty magic on me. Yes, it smelled dirty, like halitosis, it was shocking and off putting, but I decided to give it some time. The unusual dirty note vanished (almost) and paired perfectly with the citrusy opening, the lavender, herbs, rose and vanilla. If not only for that rare and unique mix of notes, I was in front of a piece of history. How couldn’t I appreciate such jewel? Well, I ended up purchasing the eau de toilette and the eau de parfum. Now they share their space with my Shalimar and my Habit Rouge, all in both concentrations. Very nice and enjoyable video!
Eugene, great review. Ive never commented on your uploads, but you also turned me on to Malle’s Parfum de Therese....amazing. Love your work. Jicky is an amazing creation. I have one bottle from the 1920’s and one from the 1950’s and let me say if you experience those, the new releases pales in comparison. Perfumes aren’t able to be compounded today as then. I do wear and enjoy today’s version. But the 1920’s version.....it’s so complex and the lavender, sandalwood and real civet, and other notes, it’s a masterpiece. I’m so lucky to have those bottles. I hope you get to experience the old Jicky one day, you’ll never forget it. Buy a decant from a reputable eBay dealer. Thanks again!!
I can only imagine how rich and animalic the older concentrations smell, Im on the lookout for some older bottles. So glad I could help you discover Perfums de Therese, another aldehydic beauty. Thanks for the comment Duane.
I’m so wanting to smell all these legends. I got to try l’heure Bleu recently and it’s mesmerizing. Perfectly executed for its name. I really need to try Jicky and some of the other heritage perfumes. I’m becoming more accustomed to some of these more classic perfumes I didn’t used to appreciate as much.
Eugene- great review of an unusual fragrance by today's standards. It's a stand-out fragrance, like most Guerlains. I have EDP, and I usually wear it at night before bed. Very calming effect on me. I'd like to see you do a comparison of the different versions of Shalimar-- EDP-EDT-EDC. I'd like to hear your take. Is one more "masculine?" I'm looking to try a version, not sure which one I could get away with. Thanks
Citrus, lavender, civet? Count me in, I love all of those notes. And I love to wear certain men's colognes so I'm dying to have a sniff of this. If my mom ends up buying a bottle and I like it, I'll steal a spritz or two every time I visit 😎
Very informative review. Haven't had the opportunity to smell jicky yet, hopefully someday! Saw other comments and would also love to see a review of vol de nuit. Read somewhere that katharine Hepburn wore it! 😍 I own mitsouko but would like your review of it as well. I find it very difficult to wear as with most of the older power houses.
Thanks for the video. It's one of my top 5 perfumes of all time, as you already know. I think you did it justice and I would love to see you review the entire heritage collection man. Even going onto Apres L'ondee next would be cool, even though you don't have a bottle yet. Or maybe just skip to L'heure Bleue and go in chronological order maybe ending on Vol de Nuit, Sous le Vent or even Vega. Jicky (especially in EDP) is soothing/dirty/classy and sex in a bottle. Every time I try to describe it, the car scene from titanic comes to mind. It opens up clean with the eau de cologne notes as you mentioned with that beautiful soothing Lavender that on me sticks around to the end. Reminds me of the beginning of that scene where they're just kissing in that classy old school car. Then it gets hot and steamy with the leather and civet making me think of sex in a vintage (or brand new) car with leather seats. Ending with the beautiful civet, orris, resins, tonka and vanilla in the base. Basically the cuddling after sex with that mustiness still in the air. lol 10/10 in my opinion. I get a solid 8-10 hours of longevity. moderate projection for the first 4-6 hours, then it remains a gorgeous skin scent after that. I think it''s outrageous, but extremely classy once you get to know it. Also, if you like modern leather scents, once you get used to this, you'll love it. It's unisex leaning more towards masculine in my opinion. This and L'heure Bleue are by far my most used perfumes in my collection. I use both almost every night to bed along with full wearings and tag alongs (when it's not my main sotd, but I do one spray on my hand just to smell it throughout my day)
Great analogy JZ haha, I love those classic steamy scenes. I also agree that Jicky is a one of a kind masterpiece and one I never want to be without regardless if other people may find it offensive on me or not.
U Smells Good haha yeah man. Same here... I never really care about what people think anymore, but I’ve actually gotten many compliments from it surprisingly
U Smells Good I don't remember Eugene. lol Maybe something about the packaging change to the Les Absolus D’orient that isn’t available yet. You can see them if you visit the Guerlain website
U Smells Good wait. Never mind I just checked, but they took it down. It’s a good thing I took a screen shot of it. Lol it has Encens Mythique and something called Bois Mystereux or something like that (which I suspect is a renamed Songe) added to the rest of the line. Do you have anywhere I can send it to you? Maybe Instagram if you haven’t completely deleted it?
i’ve never smelled jickey before, i need to get a sample! i’ve been wearing Frederic Malle perfumes for about 14 years, i haven’t found brands that match up to my nose, but i’m hoping i like Guerlain.
Eugene-- I always like your take on things. I know you don't ascribe to gender differences in perfumes- (or maybe you do, but don't care!!) but, for those of us who aren't there yet, which Shalimar version would you say leans more masculine? Thank you sir.
Hey Jean-Luc, If you can wear Jicky i don't think you would feel uncomfortable in either Shalimar edt or edp. I would stay away from the fruity patchouli floral of Parfum Initial. I love the smokey vanilla and benzoin in Souffle Intense but the sweet white florals may come off a tad "girly". Hope this helps at least a little.
@@usmellsgood I lost the bid for a bottle of vintage Parure on eBay recently. I didn't know how rare it is, so I bid something stupid like $50.00 max. The winner got it for $218.00!
Cannot wait for the edp to make it my way.. Also received a sample of Galop today with another purchase, tried it and went straight on my to buy list. Thanks for the amazing content, both you and Kristo. I’m in the UK so usually can’t pop in for your livestreams but always watch them afterwards. Cheers
Congrats on your new Jicky purchase and i hope you wear it in good health. Yes, Galop is a pretty unique rose leather and something i enjoy from time to time and with the weather turning here ill be bringing it out a little more often. Thanks for the kind words and being part of the channel, it's viewers like yourself and so many other regulars that continually watch and comment that make it all worth the effort.
Price has zero to do with weather or not something is niche to me guerlain is the very definition of a niche house 🤔 they source they're own products they have an in house perfumer they manufacture, bottle and ship all products in house that is by definition a niche house, at least thats how I see it and im sticking to it ✌
I was having a look at this perfume today but I was actually there to buy Samsara. had tested both on myself I ended up unable to make a decision between them. I’m not sure if you have done a review of Samsara but please do share your thoughts on it! 🥂
I'm new to your channel & really enjoy your reviews. Would love to see you review these 2 frags. Both are out of this world but yet not one single review on either (I can find) on TH-cam. 1.) Manrose by Etro 2.) Mandrake by Parfums Quartana
Like...OH. MY. GOD! I wore “Icky" today for the first time in a year!!! What is this? Bitch is we telepafik or sum’?! (Love the Guerlain touches in the background. You a smooooove criminal) 😍👍
I want to get this edt for my husband but I read some reviews that it smells like bad breath. . . ??? I know Dior Addict has a bad breath more I noticed when I purchased it for myself. It smelt a great on my cousin, I never noticed the bad breath smell on her. Maybe it’s just the Intial spray. So how long does the halitosis last and is it repulsive?

Guerlain Eau de Cologne Imperiale is the oldest Guerlain fragrance still in production. Created in 1860.

Legendary scent! This is so so hard to classify, but I’d consider it as an UPSCALE designer scent with a very much niche DNA!!!

I just bought it recently, love the perfume but I wish it came in the old quadrilobe bottle.
it does right now go to guerlain website
Good review. I’m intrigued by your love for this brand. I would like to hear about how it all started.
