- Fab Morvan, one-half of Milli Vanilli, opened up about his beginnings in the music industry and his lack of knowledge in terms of recording contracts. He discusses Milli Vanilli's quick rise to superstardom, going platinum shortly after releasing their first hit single "Girl You Know It's True" and the lifestyle that came with success. He talks about being pressured to lip-sync and how a spoof on "In Living Color" began to unravel the truth about their recording process. Watch above.

even though they didnt sing the tunes, they were still talented because they still did the videos, still did the shows, still danced and did all the promo. they still put in work. so salute.
Facts, when you look at it that way.
D so many so-called artists these days don’t even do half of what they did.
Lol...they dance moves were corny too. Honestly these dudes were just twins who were photogenic and capable of lip synching until...
@@rcfresh4345 They weren't corny in the 90's at all, they were trending that's why they got a Grammy.
Your dad was a legend
great interview! No one can't deny how much intelligence, class and grace this man has after everything he has been through. And despite the drug use and enormous stress, Fabrice is aging so gracefully. I have been following his story for years and he always came across as someone with considerable character
You said it perfectly goddess!!!
@blackurbangoddess Thanks for this because I always thought that only Rob abused drugs.
Too bad his partner, was so fucked up about what happened that he took his life after years of depression over it....there's a documentary. (I don't know how true). But it mentioned how messed up his partner was over the whole ordeal...and it goes to show how the paparazzi and media can serious fuck u
Lol he sound like him too.
This man’s openness and eloquence is remarkable. How he was able to recover from substance abuse because of this whole situation is a miracle.
Lip sync or not, this Brutha is a living legend
Respect
He is a lypsync living legend they were dope though
Bottom line
Respect
looks like a cool dude, who's been true live and knows about live.
I LOVED Milli Vanilli as a kid! R.I.P. Rob
he's lip syncing the interview ,Vlad's in on it

Be nice...
They were used, and misled.
Right tho. I still like Girl, You Know It's True. 💯😌🤷
Can't wait to see more clips from this review! The Milli Vanilli story has always been one of the most interesting ones in the music industry.
...and don't forget it was done over and over again afterwards with none of the groups taking as much punishment as they did.
Thats the mystery...
no,,,,,,, its no mystery,,,,,, it's how the industry was and is. They used those guys and KNEW what was going on.
Is so...
Like who?...
i like this dude. good interview and seems like a real dude
Mr 412 I concur.
What he'd said...😎👆
Just the singing was fake
Pgh in the house.go Steelers.
Real😂😂
Great interview, I swear Hollywood need to make a movie about these guys, their story and journey and downfall is worth telling. I mean seriously, if they can make a movie about Selena, Biggie, Pac I'm sure they can do a major production movie about these guys. I've been waiting years for any sort of news on a movie being made about these guys and nothing has come about. I strongly believe that guy, Frank is behind the reason why a movie has never been made because after all, he's the reason why all this happen so I'm sure he has a blood sucking lawyer keeping it from happening, not to mention if there was indeed other important people behind the scenes knowing this secret like Clive Davis, their reputation would be put to the test. But still, I truly want a movie to be made, I'm sure more secretive details will come out if it indeed happens.
I would love to watch it
That would be dope. Fascinating for sure.
I'd be 1st in line get buy tickets 2 see that flick if it happens. No fuck if, WHEN it happens.
Why you ain't got a shirt in your pic, b?
It would not be Dope dummy, for the crooks "frank Farian & Co - Boney M - Milli Vanilli") would be cashing in and these guys (okay his partner committed suiside) won't possible see anything...Just let by gone be!
The hundreds of millions that were made prostituting the Act , they never even got one million dollars. The rapper of the group Boney M., died, probably killed in a hospital in Russia, a so called heart attack, for singing and using the name Boney M...!
Also did not make anything as part of the Boney M. Act
Funny how the lip syncing was a major issue back then when most of these artist now can't even sing themselves and need auto tune to sound halfway decent on a record 😂
Glad Rob & Fab did it! Otherwise we wouldn't have had that music & vids of these Spunky Guys! &... if You're gonna lip-synch for someone may as well be for that guy!(?) ... I heard it was the Boney M Guy
And we still call them artist
Factz 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
sharmella jones but they didn’t lip sync to their altered voices. They lip synced someone else’s voice
to be fair we can't blame them, the producers wanna promote degenerate shit.
Blame it on the rain was my jam.Miss those late 80's early 90's club bangers
Fab & Rob were excellent and got a raw deal. The record company threw them completely under the bus. I greatly respect those brothers but have none for the record executives. Another great video!
I know a lot about this story. Clive Davis definitely knew what was going on because, when it was time to record the second Milli Vanilli album, Davis told Frank Farian, "Whatever you do, don't change the sound." He was talking about the vocals.
Obviously!!!
Not only that, but on the European version of the CD, the actual singers are credited.
I like this guys openness and honesty about the situation.. Some would just say "I don't want to talk about the past"
Nobody would say that if they agreed to come to the interview
First Last some celebrities would have a list of topics not to talk about. Plus some people are good at diverting the conversation.
FAB, please make a movie, it's a very interesting story. Thank you Vlad for interviewing him. 💯💯💯
the lip-synching stuff is interesting, but i need the low on dude's skin care products. how is he still 25 years old?

Despite the lip synching Milli Vanilli were true artisits. They had the stage presence, videos, dancing and not to mention being totally gorgeous. I hear their music all the time on the radio, that just says alot of something if you ask me. RIP Rob, keep on truckin Fab you are doing it! I love that fact that these interviews are being releaaed for all of us to see and hear THIER side .
we forgive you fab
And rob too❤
These dudes were taken advantage of... It's a industry tragedy...
@Jeff Cockmann They did get paid, and I would have done the same thing if I were in their shoes, but they were still taken advantage of because they were too far into the fraud before they knew they were in the fraud.
They were aware of the bands "vision" from the start. He even says thier plan was to do one lipsink album and move on to thier real plans. They just never expected the first song to blow up so fast. Let alone the next single and 2 more songs after that. So I agree they are victims here, kinda. Victims of success.
@@casucasueq4479 Imagine being near homeless and poor and suddenly you're the Beatles.
Man they just dont wanna admit everyone has a price n this time the price was right.... industry hoped this formula worked so they could just find entertainers.
bullshit dude, they could have stopped at any time. The guy said it himself, the life was so spectacular, who would ever want to get off that ride? Their image and dignity was destroyed though, and I feel sorry for the one that took his own life. But let's not get it twisted, these guys were handsomely compensated, and were grown adults making their own choices that they knew had consequences.
The record industry is ruthless
He's still alive AND he looks the same!!
Why wouldnt he be alive?
And still has the braids/dreds lol!
This is actually a great interview. None of these new internet stars that'll be gone next week. No lame ass trap rappers lying every second sentence. A good story, a well structured interview.... Damn Vlad, you're doing too much, you're gonna lose mad subs for this one.
lol
Camboy GW ... and you know this man!
TRUTH!
Saddest VH1 Behind the Music next to Aaliyah.
And Selena
True... Smh 😞😞😞
That could easily be happening today. 😂
Joi Love #Truth
Easily. I am sure it goes on with a lot of these so called artist out there.
Ren Val What? No, this can be the case today. Not saying people won't eventually find out but a person can be an artist without singing live. With today's technology it can happen easily.
Ren Val Its definitely possible, people are still dumb.
they do it openly today, rappers tracks rap for them and non-singing rap fools use the alt voice shit proudly
Sad thing is, I know if they used their real voices it still would have been successful. Number one they had the perfect image and the songs were awesome. Fans especially in pop music listen with their eyes first and music mostly comes second. Most singers can't sing a note to save there lives, never put to much into that.
mark lee z I'm not so sure. I thought Rob & Fab were very entertaining as performers, but they didn't really have the vocal chops of the Milli Vanilli singers, especially at the time. Their producer Frank Farian had the magic touch, which is clear after all the years of success with Boney M. Fab became a much better singer by the time of the Rob & Fab album, but them and their collaborators just couldn't duplicate what Farian brought. His second Milli Vanilli album, which didn't have frontmen, had stronger material by comparison. Rob & Fab did actually put out a single in Germany the year before prior to meeting Farian, as part of a group called Empire Bizarre called "Dansez", but there are barely any vocals on the song.
'Fans especially in pop music listen with their eyes first and music mostly comes second' - you mean white people .
Rob could not sing worth a damn lol. Imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger singing girl you know it's true. That's what Rob sounded like singing.
they had lousy voices...come on!!
They did make a album with their real voices, it flopped... also during the 80s, artists really could sing. That's why Mil Vil dropped so hard. The people felt lied to & artists literally had to be able to sing to be great then.
Fab you a strong brotha mane!!
14 million. Even back 80s standards this is a ridiculous amount of albums moved. They were banking!
thats like the equivalent to like 40 mil today. they were HUGE.
Sure they were banking...they were of TITANIC proportions at that point...I was there...
Not really.
In the 70's, 80's artists needed to sell huge amounts to get to number 1.
Not like now....artists are getting to number 1 if they happen to 'sell' a couple of thousand.
Joe Simmons the artists were banking but the powers behind them were...that’s what’s sad...
smoothcollected, that is true, but there were a lot of bootleggers at that time.
He sounds like a cool guy.
Definitely one of your best, most intriguing interviews VLAD!

This IS the best interview I have seen on here. Its so genuine and insightful...
the saddest part is they sold 14 million albums and back then albums were like 12 to 17 bucks and they only got 1 mill a piece
I'm Tyrone it's fair to be honest, people had to get paid as well.
1 million a piece?
@@travismoduna4423 At an entry level deal those guys should have been, at the absolute lowest 6%. This would only have been because they were going through another company. 10% if signed directly. At 6% they should have been easily splitting 24m just on the album sales.
sadly paid about 100k but they had to pay alot of people
For a debut, might not be a lot, but they had to repay a lot of stuff... also based on their contracts. With TLC it was worse. You should watch their biopic. Representation is SO important when you sign a contract.
I can’t explain how much I appreciate Fab telling his story! I grew up to these guys. The hype was real! The fall was really real. I remember the day MTV reported Rob died. Then from that day, they were still the poster boys of “ fraud” until lil miss Ashley Simpson had the identical “ mishap “ during her SNL performance. Funny how some get away with it and others wake up and their career is over. That’s how life goes I guess.
14 million worldwide. Nobody is letting you get off that ride. The greatest manipulation in music history. and people had to know what was going on but you dont care with all that money in play. and if that one show with the record skipping didn't happen they would of rode that ride for a long time.
"14 million worldwide. Nobody is letting you get off that ride. "
Facts....Shit is once in a lifetime smh
Drediggy That wasn't the defining thing that ended Milli Vanilli, but it was the beginning of the end. What really made Milli Vanilli problematic was winning a Grammy, because then, they became too visible in mainstream music, more than they already were, because that award is the highest music industry honor. What really ended it was Rob & Fab fighting with Frank Farian to sing on the next album, because they knew they had become so big that they couldn't keep it a secret indefinitely. They tried several times to quit, but were bound by their contract with the producer and resignation is pretty much non-existent on a record label if you are a big success, so they had to force the producer's hand into stopping the whole thing, otherwise they would have been bound from other potential opportunities with other record labels.
If they ever make a movie about their story. I'll *definitely watch it*

Tommy Davidson's acting range is incredible in this interview 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Vlad was quick to ask what kind of drugs lol
I caught that too.
Lip syncing was an industry norm, they are far from the only one's who did it. Even their lip syncing sounds better than 95% of the bullshit on black stations today.
Exactly. And what pissed me off was that their Grammy Award got taken away from them because of it. But Britney Spears lip synched and still got her awards. That was bullshit
A Biopic of these guys is needed.. Peace and Blessings Fab.. RIP Rob!!!!
One of the best interviews on this channel. Not everything is about kilos, gangs and jail stories.
one of you're best interviews

Netflix should do a movie on this
This is the best interview by VLAD. Fab was so genuine.
loved this group. .still do
I have to say that this is the first interview that VLAD doesn't come across as directing the interview. He lets Fab paint the picture of what really happened, and segues step by step. Good Job.
Awesome interview very well spoken very good looking for his age, very humbled, so said the Industry took advantage of them 🙁 I hope at the end he did get something out of it 🙏🏼

I don't know 😞 why mili vanili members got so much backlash because Blackbox came out around the same time as them and they were a "lip sync" group too.
Dont forget that Martha Wash sang the vocals for Blackbox.and she.sued the record.company and won. Same went for C.and C Music Factory.
Martha Wash was treated horribly... she sang ALL the vocals on Seduction's "You're My One And Only True Love" and got no credit! Technotronic did the same thing with Ya-Kid-Kay, because she was underage. Anyone remember Felly? Lol. Things got really bad when paranoia gripped the industry after a backup singer went after Paula Abdul claiming that she sang lead on all of her songs! Ironically the fake voices are coming back...
Marvin Marshall Martha Walsh was the vocalist
Man I was so in love with Milli Vanilli. Still jam to them till this day.
This interview reminds me of VH1's old show "Behind The Music". Man I miss those shows.

He can actually sing though. And he plays guitar. Fab was the one that was actually talented musically. Rob couldn't do shit but dance. Look up Fab's song "Anytime".
