@@JMac7395My aunt was a somewhat successful singer in Germany at the time (sang female vocals on Rock Me Amadeus”. She knew about Milli Vanilli before they were exposed and even told me to come to Germany to make money by doing this very thing. I laughed because I bought into the MV craze and really thought they were singing. 😂😂 Germany had weird tastes in music being that David Hasselhoff was a huge deal there so, I did believe I could go and it work. All that to say, it was my understanding that the vocalists had an idea of what was going on and what could happen.
I’m sure they didn’t know the group would blow up like this though, but maybe not completely duped if that was a practice back then?

@anthtan because they were used as the scapegoats. Sadly, their race made it easier to do so. The world saw it as 2 young black men lying and deceiving us. They were MASSIVE, which made their demise even more tragic. Yes, everyone laughed when they fell through. Sad thing is though, everybody lipsynched back then. Rob and Fab were the faces, like so many other acts who had studio artists making the music. But they were just so wildly popular, and the music only succeeded through THEM. So rip Rob and salutes to Fab, who’s luckily overcome all the bullshit and is enjoying a great life as musician and deejay.

I will offer 2 comments. They might contradict each other.
      1) It is super-ironic that Rob and Fab were dragged through the mud and hit with lawsuits and became national laughing stocks, when Michael Jackson lip-synced, too, and somehow no one cared. He was heralded as a genius and the King of Pop and made more money than God, as a matter of fact. He was a super-star for doing the same thing that Milli Vanilli did. Britney Spears became the most famous woman in the world precisely for lip syncing. She made an entire career, an entire empire, out of it. But Milli Vanilli became pariahs. Yes, life is ironic.
      2) I still think these 2 are con artists, as are their producers and managers, and don't believe their protestations of innocence. Of course they will paint themselves in a good light and act like they were victims.

What's really quite sad with Milli Vanilli is that this still goes on today with a lot more bands and artists than people realise. It always has.
They were just very unlucky because they wanted more creative control, more input and worst of all tried standing up to the producer and machinery which operated behind them.
That very rarely works in any of the Entertainment Industries - especially if it's going to start disrupting people's money and you are their cash cow 😳🇬🇧

But when they came out with their own voices wth the album titled Rob + Fab as you know they sounded alright-so what was the problem???????
Also when I wasin a band over 10/11 years ago we were offered a record contract with a sub label off of Universal but they wanted 80% control-and we were booked to go on TV shows/record an album etc 🤷🏻‍♂
We turned it down as we also had a lawyer look through it. And exactly still goes on-Look what happened with Den Harrow really big in Europe esp in Italy, Germany, + Sweden as you prob know!
But the voice songs sung by Tom Hooker. from 1984-1987 but by 1988 he then used his real voice anyway-Let alone other ones like: C+C Music Factory, Valerie Dore, etc

We can't say that they were perfectly innocent. But they were naïve as well as they really wanted to be stars and be loved by the fans. They needed money, they were basically penniless.
What was not fair that there were others who were responsible ( some of them even more than Rob and Fab), but the boys took ALL the blame.
I cant really tell whether Rob could ( or could have learnt to) sing/rap well. But I think Fab is really good. (Not a genius but geniuses are VERY rare. ) They both had this charisma what is more than being very good dancera and having good looks.
