There are probably even way more coasters named 'roller coaster' out there if you into account the coasters that are just named 'roller coaster' but in a different language. Like as a Dutch person, there are multiple coasters named 'Achtbaan' (the Dutch world for roller coasters) in our country. Same goes for Germany (Achterbahn in German) and also montana rusa in a lot of latin languages, I'm guessing that's the same for many and I mean MANY other languages and coasters around the world.
It surprises me what names Six Flags doesn't use more often, like the one Tatsu and only a couple Ninjas; or DC characters that deserve more than just one coaster, like Green Lantern and The Flash.
It should be ILLEGAL to reuse a coaster name unless it's actually a clone, and even then it should be required to have a modifier. Ie: Chicago's Batman, LA's Batman, etc.
People think that Main Street is the most popular/used name for streets in America. It's actually Frontage Road. Roller Coaster is about a s LaZy as you can get in naming a roller coaster except Rollo Coaster.
Brands tend to have brand names. I don’t think Batman’s and Superman’s are over used. If there were 10 Disney Magic Kingdom parks, there would be 10 Big Thunder Mountains and 10 Space Mountains. There are allot of Batman’s and Superman’s because there are allot of Six Flags parks.
Not as fancy as you would expect, i wish i had access to their database but i was relegated to copying and pasting every page into excel and using a pivot table on the coaster names
Went to a state fair with a Wacky Worm named "Wacky Cowboy" which had art of mice dressed as cowboys. I kept getting confused and calling it a Wild Mouse, lol.
Video Idea: Top 15 coasters less tall than the speed of the fastest coaster. Where you count down the top 15 coasters less than 150 (the fastest coaster in the world’s speed) ft.
There’s also, boomerang, Leap-the-dips, twister, pandemonium (kinda), Goliath, Corkscrew, Racer, Jack Rabbit, Comet, Flying Turns (I think), and I can go on and on.
awsum vid as usual... interesting how you say how many coasters use a name but are different... a follow up video could be how many share a name and/or are the same coaster clone.... batman has got to be up near the top on that one...
This is a great idea for a video, keep ‘em coming! I predicted Roller Coaster to be the winner before I started watching and I wasn’t disappointed at all.
Chris... awhile back you showed interests in my idea of "List of Coasters that have Premiered in Movies&shows!" ... still interested? I can provide all I can think of. You could pair with footage from movie & coaster in life, etc.
I think the most overrated and overused names for roller coasters are "Scenic Railway", "Comet", "Wild Mouse", and "Cyclone" in my opinion. @Christian Ortiz , I apologize if this comment copied yours, I couldn't find any ideas for my comment.
There’s a gajillion parks out there with the name happy valley. I must say though I think that’s a good name for an amusment park. It’s simple, but it rolls right off the tongue
I was about to say actually there is a Family Coaster at a zoo in Arizona so there's definitely more than one... Looked it up though and that one is called Family Roller Coaster, so a near miss!
I feel like any major park would name a new coaster something other than the most used or iconic (Cyclone or Wildcat). Small parks naming after well known is understandable. The Wild Mouse type is what that type is known of being. Then there is Six Flags with Goliath.
And this is only with english names, cause at Tibidabo (Spain) we have Muntanya Russa, wich is catalan for Roller Coaster, wich would increase that count... And surely there are more hidden among the list
Canadas wonderland has one coaster named Dragon, it's Dragon Fyre and our Wild Mouse is called the Fly, which I only rode once because it gave me bruises, haven't been on it since.
“I’m a Roller Coaster enthusiast” “Oh sick man, did you see what RMC did to Wildcat at Hershey?” “Nah man, I’m a Roller Coaster Enthusiast not a Roller Coaster Enthusiast”
What do you think is the disparity that causes your numbers to be different (lower) than just rcdb search results? Relocations maybe? I know you used a spreadsheet for more specific results. For instance roller coaster comes up as 395 and wild mouse 172. Just curious.
Yeah could be relocations, sometimes it's hard to get a sense of how many coasters there really are on rcdb because of the way they handle relocations. I just said give me every single coaster, then pasted every page into excel, and used a pivot table on the coaster name to get the number of each
Ooh the Butterflies. Yes, they're on RCDB, but it's controversial. For most (European) coaster fans they are flat rides, not roller coasters. But we do them because we can.
It would be interesting to start filtering these names by, say, coaster height. At some point, do "Wild Mouse" and "Dragon" start yielding to "Cyclone" and "Boomerang", and then "Batman" and "Superman" and "Goliath"?
If I owned a park I would want my coaster lineup to be unique and special. Ide make sure my name was unique and that the company that built the ride couldn't clone it elsewhere
B&M’s Hyper coaster ‘clamshell’ and Intamin’s Pantheon swing launch coaster restraints are my two favorites. On the flip side, RMC coasters are extremely thrilling but I can’t stand their shin splinter leg restraints. Very uncomfortable.
How did Montana Rusa not make the list. Technically it could be combined with Roller Coaster. It’s English translation is “Russian Mountain,” but it’s definition matches that of the English words roller coaster. Rcdb shows 52, with six others starting with or containing the words montanarusa.
“How many coasters do you want named Goliath”
Six Flags: Yes
How many coasters do you want named Batman?
SF: Yes
"How many coasters do you want named Joker"
SF: yes
How about Superman
yea but there is also Superman _____ ____ ______ _____
Viper
Mind Eraser
Superman
Roadrunner Express
Twisted or Cyclone
Joker
I think the most overused names for a coaster are "roller coaster", "Boomerang", " batman the ride", and "Goliath".
You mean the Batman and the Goliath at Six Flags?
Can agree
It’s kind of like naming your SLC “Suspended Looping Coaster”
What about the name "Zephyr"
@@joeygassmann5595 No, I think they mean the one at Six Flags.
Roller Coaster has got to be one of the most bland names for a coaster.
But at least it means it has the best theming!
@@triplej755 most of the time yes but sometimes can be a bit bland. Roller Coaster at lagoon does look to have some good theming
wooooosh
Comment.
I’m not interested in riding Roller Coaster 1.
06:09 in German, roller coasters are called "Achterbahn" what actually means "figure eight".
Goliath would be such an awesome name… if only…
Yeah
Goliath is an awesome name when used correctly
Thats what I've always thought. It works soooo well on a coaster.
@@Zatoka. i agree, for example: a big, giant coaster
@@mr.z_yt Yes! Or, a big giant coaster from a knock off B&M company!
Great video!!! You crack me up with the Figure Eight coaster….
“You wanna ride it, too bad” 😂
There should be more Butterfly Models. I feel like that’s a perfect first backwards coaster experience for kids
Crazy, mad, wild - a lot of mice with mental health issues.
Haven’t watched yet but Wild Mouse has to be on here

I was thinking Twister was there. There’s a lot of those weather based names, but you covered Cyclone and Tornado.
"ROLLERCOASTER"- "DRAGON" calling it before I even watch!
It should be ILLEGAL to reuse a coaster name unless it's actually a clone, and even then it should be required to have a modifier. Ie: Chicago's Batman, LA's Batman, etc.
Great video! I enjoyed watching! I have a little dipper near me in Camden Park in Huntington WV.

What about Rollie’s Coaster
Was looking for Montana Russa & Jet Coaster.

Dang, I would love to see some of the excel magic you used to sort all this. Impressive!
Not as fancy as you would expect, i wish i had access to their database but i was relegated to copying and pasting every page into excel and using a pivot table on the coaster names
As someone who has spent a lot of time looking up coasters in china for list videos I'm astounded that Jungle Trailblazer isn't on here.
China is so fucking bad at naming rides
there’s only like, 6- i think
Doesn’t feel like that when you’re scrolling RCDB at 3am
Went to a state fair with a Wacky Worm named "Wacky Cowboy" which had art of mice dressed as cowboys. I kept getting confused and calling it a Wild Mouse, lol.
Gotta be honest, i wasn't expecting a video about coaster names but i'm all for it 👍
I'm not sure if there are enough of them, maybe if you include defunct, but a prime ride time video on Premier's coasters would be interesting.
The WIldcat is closed at Hershey Park.
Not at all what I was expecting. I just got schooled! Thanks for posting!
Figure eight closely resembles the Dutch word for roller coaster, namely 'achtbaan' (literally eight-track or eight-course).
Video Idea: Top 15 coasters less tall than the speed of the fastest coaster. Where you count down the top 15 coasters less than 150 (the fastest coaster in the world’s speed) ft.
first (huge fan and one of the best coaster channels of all time because of ur rankings and commentary) btw been following u for years.
All of these overused names and we still don't have a Fiery Fist o' Pain
Rollercoaster tycoon would be proud
I was ready to be disappointed by roller coast not being #1. Now I'm perfectly satisfied.
Some of them for me are coaster, cyclone, Goliath, and batman the ride.
Or Mind Eraser, Viper, twisted, steel, timber, racer, or boomerang
Nice work, and thanks for the credit on the Spinning Coaster picture. Also, how did you get all the RCDB list into Excel?
Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland was my first rollercoaster!! And I rode Little Dipper at Great America yesterday 😂😂
There’s also, boomerang, Leap-the-dips, twister, pandemonium (kinda), Goliath, Corkscrew, Racer, Jack Rabbit, Comet, Flying Turns (I think), and I can go on and on.

I'm suprised "corkscrew" didn't make the list.

They had a whacky worm at a music festival I went to. Wasn't waiting a hour

Yep and makes stuff very confusing for me when researching
You should do a video on the best defunct/abandoned amusement parks if you haven’t already

I was WAY beyond sick of anything named batman and superman years ago. Surprised those didn't make this list.
Surprised Comet wasn’t on here
Did the count include coasters called “Rollercoaster” in other languages such as Rutschebanen at Tivoli Gardens? If not, it could be a lot higher.
8:02 there’s the one coaster at my true home park. By far the roughest ride I been on
Little Dipper I think has over 80 as most of the hercell kiddie dippers were named that, don’t know if it’s on here tho

Is it bad that I like wild mouse type coasters?
Not at all. They're good for people afraid of heights, and good ones provide plenty of laterals and sometimes some nice pops of airtime.
First one that came to mind was definitely Goliath... surprisingly it's not there
i feel like i’m the only one excited abt wild mouse but the same people who cry that wicked twister is gone never rode it when it was open 😭😭
And yet no SIx Flags Coaster actually make this list? 😲😯😮
What about Wooden Coaster 1?
Well there goes my bet for Judge Roy Scream being the most common coaster name.

2-Batman
3-Batman
